Forbes Phoenix

OUR Bloke

January 18, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Shaun Howlett

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes going on 8 months now, but I’ve built up my career in Forbes over the last 9 years.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I work with the amazing team at Steele Technology. Nathan and Noami are gracious employers, they treat you more as family than as a colleague.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? When I’m not playing computer games, I’m out with mates on the longboard or getting out on the dirt bike. The occasional game of paintball is always welcomed – the bruises they leave are not!

What are you really good at? I’m not usually ‘really good’ at anything in particular, but I can generally do ‘just okay’ with anything I put my mind to.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? The ability to read people’s minds.

What is your pet hate? ‘Please’ and ‘thank you’ go a long way. I miss ‘common sense’  appears it’s not very common any more.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. Good ol’ fashion road/camping trip around Australia with my mother, sister and grandfather.

How old are you? Five years old.

How long have you lived in or around Forbes? I don’t know.

Where do you go to school? Forbes Pre- School.

What do you love most about your school? Uhm… riding the fast bikes.

What is your favourite sport? Mostly cricket.

What is your favourite food? Frankfurts.

What do you do in your spare time? Go in the pool.

If you could have a super power what would it be? To throw fire.

What do you hope Santa brings you this year? I’ve got too much on my list… a big truck and I hope Santa gives me a Case Header, just one that’s pretend.

What would you do if your were invisible for a day?

December 14, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Carlene Gyory: Try to help the people that need it the most.

Daniel Willis: Break into a Ginger Beer Factory, Preferably ‘Kirks Olde Stoney’.

Sylvie Maloney: Walk into a restaurant and eat ALL their food.

OUR Gal

Dianne Decker

How long have you lived in Forbes? I have lived in Forbes for all of the 70 years of my life. Forbes has always been my home and home is where the heart is. I am comfortable and I like what I have been able to do here over the years. I still plan to do more!

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I worked the last 22 years for OCTEC Disability Services but after major surgeries have now been pensioned off. I loved every bit of my work helping people with disabilities get into open employment. The very best welfare work anyone can do is to help someone to get and keep a job.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? Who unwinds? I love to read, write, go to church and talk with my family.

What are you really good at? I am a very good organiser and advocate.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? I would rid the world of corruption and give our leaders some courage to look after people.

What is your pet hate? People who are weak and who tell lies.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. Holidays to South Africa, Europe and Ireland were all very special. Also the Ghan, Indian Pacific and Tasmania.

A Property That Has It All

December 7, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

“River Dell” is undoubtedly one of those keenly sought after Forbes district properties. It is difficult to decide just which are its best features.

Is it the five bedroom homestead with its contemporary design, set in established gardens surrounded by mature trees and scrubs?

Or the quality of the associated infrastructure,

sheds, yards and fencing? Or could it be the productiveness of the alluvial soils?

Perhaps, that there is just over 4km of Lachlan River frontage with a beach for launching a boat, fishing, picnicking or swimming?

Or that “River Dell” is only 10km from Forbes?

Or is it that the property is on two separate titles one with the homestead and the other with dwelling approval?

If any or all of these features appeal to you please don’t hesitate to contact us for information or come on one of our three Saturday open farm tours or arrange a private inspection at your convenience.

Exceptional Opportunity

December 7, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

A 113.48ha (280 acre*) irrigation property with a 500ml water entitlement and only 10km* from Forbes is a pretty special find these days. It could be yours to move in on 25th January 2018. “Rodwell” will be auctioned on 14th December unless it is sold prior.

The home has been sited on this property with great care. From the dining room table you look out over the majority of the farm. The house is oriented with a north-easterly aspect to capture the best winter sunshine and relief from the summer heat.

There is no shortage of water to look after the garden and its trees as there is a domestic bore at the house. In addition to the bore there are several rainwater tanks.

Shelter for livestock is provided by a centrally located stand of pine trees accessible by 4 of the 9 main paddocks. The other paddocks have established tree plantings.

Which would you pick: being world-class attractive, a genius or famous for doing something great?

December 7, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Mitch Fazzari: Famous for doing something great. I would like to have achieved something great.

Jenny Dawes: I would like to be a genius and do something great or invent something but I would not pursue the fame.

Ali Plummer: None of the above. I am happy just the way I already am.

If you could be any cartoon character, who would you be and why?

November 30, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Jakieal Ware: I’d like to be Daffy Duck because he has big feet almost like flippers and then I could swim even faster.

Erin Mayo: I would like to be Chase from Paw Patrol. He is a police man and saves people and I also like dogs.

Lola Morrison: Lola Bunny, because of her name!
