OUR Bloke

November 30, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Steve Loane

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have a long association with Forbes through the saleyards. It is a beautiful town and the people are warm and friendly. I am looking forward to this being my new home.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I work for Forbes Shire Council. We have the opportunity to make a positive difference in our community.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I enjoy spending time with my family and gardening, as well as travelling.

What are you really good at? Growing stuff, I’ve actually got a very green thumb and enjoy gardening a great deal.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? To empower others – the ability to make others realise their potential.

What is your pet hate? Bullies. Tell us about your best holiday ever. Any one of my many trips into the desert, into the most remote areas of Australia. I am lucky to have travelled around most parts of Australia and I love this beautiful country of ours.

A Property That Has It All “River Dell”

November 30, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

“River Dell” is undoubtedly one of those keenly sought after Forbes district properties. It is difficult to decide just which are its best features.

Is it the five bedroom homestead with its contemporary design, set in established gardens surrounded by mature trees and scrubs?

Or the quality of the associated infrastructure, sheds, yards and fencing? Or could it be the productiveness of the alluvial soils?

Perhaps, that there is just over 4km of Lachlan River frontage with a beach for launching a boat, fishing, picnicking or swimming? Or that “River Dell” is only 10km from Forbes?

Or is it that the property is on two separate titles one with the homestead and the other with dwelling approval?

If any or all of these features appeal to you please don’t hesitate to contact us for information or come on one of our three Saturday open farm tours or arrange a private inspection at your convenience.

Exceptional Opportunity “Rodwell”

November 30, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

A 113.48ha (280 acre*) irrigation property with a 500ml water entitlement and only 10km* from Forbes is a pretty special find these days. It could be yours to move in on 25th January 2018. “Rodwell” will be auctioned on 14th December unless it is sold prior.

The home has been sited on this property with great care. From the dining room table you look out over the majority of the farm.

The house is oriented with a north-easterly aspect to capture the best winter sunshine and relief from the summer heat.

There is no shortage of water to look after the garden and its trees as there is a domestic bore at the house. In addition to the bore there are several rainwater tanks.

Shelter for livestock is provided by a centrally located stand of pine trees accessible by 4 of the 9 main paddocks. The other paddocks have established tree plantings.

Question of the Week?

November 23, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

If you could ask your pet one question what would it be?

Leonie Burton: After Maisy, my cat broke her leg and I had to pay the vet account, I’d like to ask her: “Do you have insurance?”

Megan Davies: I’d like to ask my cat Dora ‘the explorer’ what it’s like not to work for a living.

Crystal Taylor: I’d want to ask my two dogs if they like the way that I’m looking after them.

Our Gal – Anne Stewart

Anne Stewart

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes for 13 years.

Is that lucky or unlucky? I think it’s lucky! I love the rural life. I love walking around our lake and the activities that happen there.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I have been retired for two years and I love it! So much to do and not enough hours in the day!

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? My life is one long weekend. I love to travel and my passion is researching and planning our next holiday. I love to socialise and am up for a get together anytime.

What are you really good at? I am good at organising, planning and spending money… haha!

If you could have a super power, what would it be? I would get rid of dishonest and cruel governments across the world!

What is your pet hate? Poor diction, poor grammar and “Oh my Gawd”.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. I’ve had lots of great holidays, but the best was a cruise to the Pacific Islands over Christmas with my husband, children and grandchildren. It was the most memorable and best time ever.

Flannery’s Pharmacy celebrated its 60th birthday at the beginning of this month. We asked customers: How long have you been coming to Flannery’s and what do you like about the pharmacy?

November 16, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Harry Coggian: I’ve been coming here almost every week since the pharmacy opened. The staff have been wonderful since day one. Couldn’t wish for any better.

Sally Spence: Since I was born, I used to come here with my mother. I love the friendly staff they are very helpful.

Tom Edols: Longer than I can remember. They are lovely people with great service.

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes all my life. I like that I have a lot of family living here and my children get to grow up as part of a large family group. I also think the town has great schools with various sports and activities to participate in.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I am the site manager for Auswest Seeds. I enjoy working in the agricultural industry and in particular being able to help out local farmers. When our team does a good job and we receive positive feedback it is very rewarding.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I don’t get much time to unwind. Most weekdays and weekends are spent between my children’s sporting activities. I like to spend time with my wife and kids. I also enjoy fishing with my son and on Saturdays I like to have a bet on the horse racing.

What are you really good at? I would like to say being a dad and husband… but my wife and kids might disagree. I was a pretty good t-ball player when I was 8.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? Super speed. It would make mundane tasks like shopping, washing cars and cleaning up after kids so much easier.

What is your pet hate? I have a thing about punctuality… things not running on time or people who turn up late.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. All holidays are great. We really enjoy taking our children to sporting events where they can enjoy the atmosphere of a large crowd. I like sharing these experiences with our kids and creating great memories they will have forever.

Which leisure, sporting or shop facility would you like to improve or have in Forbes?

November 9, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Meaghan Gallagher: Nothing in particular. In my line of work, I travel around a lot and can get things from all over.

Leah Byrnes: Under 18’s have to be accompanied by an adult for all movies at the cinema. That used to be a bit inconvenient. More affordable clothing stores would be nice.

Gayle Williams: I think we are fairly well supplied. Especially since the cinema was opened and the Bunnings and Spotlight development, I’ve been very happy.

OUR Gal

Fiona Blyth

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes for about four years. I love the generous community spirit in Forbes.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I work as a Human Resources Adviser at CentaCare. I like to help people find a vocation… it’s better to love what you do!

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I love good sci-fi, getting out into the garden or dinner with good friends.

What are you really good at? I’m really good at talking… haha!

If you could have a super power, what would it be? My super power would be breathing under water. Being able to walk around the ocean floor would be cool!

What is your pet hate? Insincerity.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. Always the next one that I am planning… I love travelling anywhere.

Eric Barrass

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes for 11 years after moving from Tullibigeal. Forbes is a friendly town with a great range of services. South Lead Road is close to town but still far enough out that I enjoy the peace and quiet and friendly neighbours. Living on the Lachlan River is very relaxing.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I have a small farm contracting business, SLR Contracting, with my family. I enjoy meeting a lot of different people and doing a variety of jobs.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I like to spend time relaxing on the riverbank with a fishing rod in one hand and a beer in the other.

What are you really good at? DIY projects at home especially for our ever expanding garden. My wife comes up with the ideas and I have to bring them to fruition.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? To be able to pick next week’s lotto numbers. Seriously… it would be a great super power to be able to fix all the pain and suffering in the world.

What is your pet hate? Theft and vandalism. If it’s not yours don’t touch it.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. My best holiday was in 2013 when my family and I went to the USA. The highlight was Disneyland and seeing so many other Californian attractions.
