Netball Finals Excitement

December 11, 2020 By editor

The Finals of the Forbes Netball Spring Night Competitions for both Mixed and Ladies’ teams were played last week. Great skills were on display as the players contested with their opposition and fought hard for each goal scored by their team. All players showed outstanding sportsmanship for their teams.

The Final of the 17 under division was won by Hot Shots who defeated Speculators 27-22.

Hot Shots started well, outscoring their opposition in the first quarter, but Specula- tors fought back, and at half time the score was 17-10 to Hot Shots.

Hot Shots circle defenders of Georgia Cole and Lily Boyd were leading their team, with strong rebounds and tight defence. The second half saw Speculators catching their opposition, winning the second half by two goals.

Strong attacking from Speculators shoot- ers Halli Woolnough and Amity Payne, helped to keep their team in the game. They were supported by defender Sadie McCahon who tried for every intercept. Hot Shots centre Kirby Maslin was a great link through the court, to help lead her team.

The Final of the Ladies Open division was won by Gundamain who defeated Chunky Pies 52-30. The game was closely contested, with Gundamain gradually pulling away in each quarter.

The second and fourth quarters for Gundamain sealed the match, with centre Nicole Mee and shooter Chloe Madden shining for their team.

Chunky Pies’ Ellie Flick and Phoebe Costello had outstanding games, with accurate shooting from Ellie, and strong attacking and defending from Phoebe.

Gundamain’s goal attack Shannon Hurley was extremely fast around the court, with strong drives, and accurate passing and Rebecca Roach also stood out for her team.

The Mixed Final was won by Gundamain who defeated Mix & Match 44-25.

Chloe Madden, Gundamain shooter was accurately supported by attacker Shannon Hurley. The experience of the older Gundamain team showed through during the game but Mix & Match did not give up.

Mix & Match was led by Jacob Collits and Fiona Howarth, who both had outstanding games. Gundamain won every quarter, with Annabelle Dyer making a difference for her team. Circle defender Gabe Boland for Mix & Match never stopped trying and took some great intercepts.

The finals of the Netball Spring Night Competitions for both Mixed and Ladies’ teams were played this week. The competition ladder was very close, with only a point or two separating many of the teams.

Last week, Speculators did not umpire for the first time, and must pay the $50 fine before they play this week and give their opposition a five-goal start.

The next night competitions will start in February 2021, and everyone should stay up to date with all the latest news on Forbes Netball Facebook and the local newspapers.

The Annual General Meeting of the Forbes Netball Association will be held on 18 February 2021.

There will be lots of help needed to bring netball to the Forbes community in 2021.

The Night Competitions will be organised for Autumn and Spring, and the new Saturday Junior Mixed Inter Town Competition will be played for all players, 17 and under, between the Forbes, Parkes, and Young netball associations.

NetSetGo for all players five years and up, will also be played in Forbes each Saturday during the winter months, in line with the Inter Town Junior competition.

The Forbes Netball Spring night competitions for both Mixed and Ladies’ teams drew to a close this week, with the last round of games played on Wednesday, 25 November.

All team representatives were asked to check at the office on Wednesday night, to see if their team will be playing in the finals. The finals were played between the two top teams on the point score ladder.

Three finals will be played by the Mixed, Ladies’ Opens, and Ladies’ Under 17 divisions on Wednesday, 2 December.

The Forbes Netball Association thanks everyone who contributed to make the competitions so successful. By helping with the jobs to be done each week, netball in Forbes survived 2020.

Thanks to all of the umpires who have umpired every week. Because of the extra umpires available, the teams did not have to do as many duties as they would normally be required to in order to run the competition.

Thanks, to all of the players who checked in every week, and abided by the COVID-19 Safety Plan developed by the FNA, through the guidance of NNSW.

The netball spring night competitions are in full swing, with some close games coming through. The season is drawing to a close with the finals set to be played on Wednesday, 2 December.

All players playing in the finals must have played three games with their team to be able to play. For finals, substitute players will be unable to fill in for any team.

Unfortunately, last week, team Mix & Match forfeited their game for playing with an unregistered player. Teams are urged to ensure all players are registered in order to avoid disqualifying for play and forfeiting games.

The Forbes Netball Association wished to thank all of the teams for fulfilling their umpiring duties when they have been allocated.

All players are reminded that the COVID-19 restrictions are still in place, and everyone entering Stephen Field must sign in at the desk.

Entry to Stephen Field is to the left of the office block, and exit is between the toilet block and the skate park. Any players or spectators who are feeling unwell are not allowed to play or enter the grounds.

The FNA is calling for applications for the 2021 representative season for coaches, assistant coaches, and umpires for 12, 13 and 14 years age groups to attend the Junior State Titles, and 15 and 17 under years for Senior State Titles, as well as Opens to play in the West/Central West Regional League competition in February and March.

All applications must be emailed to Secretary Mon at secretary.forbesnetball@gmail.com by 5pm, 19 November 2020.

Netball NSW rules now state that all coaches must have their Development Coaching Accreditation to be entered with the team entry in 2021.

The Foundation Coaching Course is an online course and can be completed at any time and is the first accreditation in the coaching framework.

The Development Coaching Course has two parts, with the first part online followed by a face to face component. Anyone wanting more information should contact Coach Convenor Robyn Kenny.

Every team entered must have an umpire with a Netball NSW accreditation and a National badge to be entered with the team entry in 2021. Anyone wanting more information should contact Umpire Convenor Marg Spackman.

The FNA will be calling for applications from players who would like to trial for the above age groups in 2021. Players are to stay updated for more dates and details on the above age groups, with teams to be finalised by the end of 2020.

Western Region Academy Of Sport Netball Trials

The Forbes netball courts were full of action again this week after the school holiday break.

The Spring Night competitions for both mixed and ladies’ teams continued with games in round three, with the weather now warming up, the FNA is preparing for the summer season.

There was a lot of action at the office, as players paid their competition levy for the coming season. Unfortunately, many teams still played with unregistered players, and the games will be forfeited.

The teams whose players on the court were all fully registered were Schofields, in the ladies’ division, and in the mixed division, Late Or Never. Both Schofields and Late Or Never have won on forfeits.

All other games were forfeited, as there were players who played without being fully registered.

Next week, team representatives must check with their team-mates, as players not fully registered will not be able to take the court. If team representatives are not sure of their players registration, they should come and check at the office.

COVID-19 restrictions are still in place, and if you are feeling unwell, please do not enter the courts.
