OUR Gal

February 22, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Kelsey Muller

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes my whole life and it’s just a fantastic community.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? When I’m home I work at the Sahara Park Horse Riding School. Currently I’m in Armidale studying International Studies and all is going well so far.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? On weekends I either get involved in sports or hobbies.

What are you really good at? I love horse riding and art.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? My superpower would be to time travel.

What is your pet hate? My pet hate would be general rude behaviour.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. My best holiday would have to be shark diving in 2016 in South Australia.

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes for all of the 52 years of my life. I love the country lifestyle.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I do a lot of voluntary work and really enjoy being around people.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I read mostly. At the moment I’m busy reading a book about the history of the Melbourne Cup which is very interesting.

What are you really good at? I’m good at getting behind the microphone and doing announcements. I’ve been doing the Forbes Show announcements for the past 33 years.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? I don’t believe in super powers.

What is your pet hate? I can’t think of anything, except for not being able to read because I love reading.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. I went to the Gold Coast once and stayed with my cousin, I really enjoyed that a lot. I’ve been on one-day trips to Canberra, Bathurst, Lithgow and some more. I like exploring the surrounding areas.

What did you do on Valentine’s Day?

February 15, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

David Jackson: We set up camp and had a swim before going out to dinner.

David Mattiske: I took my wife, of almost 45 years, out for tea.

Paul Clancy: I was by myself. In the past I used to have the florist deliver a bouquet of flowers.

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes for 15 years and I love the community spirit that exists. There are plenty of creative souls here as well, you can always find something new to do.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I teach Year 1 at St Laurence’s Primary School. I work with an incredible team and every day with the kids is different, challenging and rewarding all at once.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I’m a complete homebody, and love to read, read some more and drink tea. I soak up my family on the weekends, as the weeks are so busy.

What are you really good at? I’m an exceptional plant-killer. Anyone who knows me, knows I do not have a green thumb at all. Though I do keep trying.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? Definitely teleportation. I wouldn’t mind a weekend in Tuscany or Morocco and being back in time for dinner on Sunday.

What is your pet hate? The sound of someone eating. Especially ice.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. A trip to Fiji a couple of years ago with our kids was amazing. It was a real experience for us all to visit a primary school there, and have lunch with a local family in their home. It helped us to appreciate what we have and what we take for granted every day.

What do you like most about your school? The students from Forbes North Public School answered.

February 8, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Annabelle Cross (9): I like that it’s a nice and kind school and that we get to do lots of fun activities.

Charlotte Markwort (9): I like that my school is a fun, safe, respectful and responsible place.

Philip Klingner (10): I like that I can play with my friends and have fun at recess and lunch.

If you could be a Commonwealth Games athlete, in which sport would you compete?

February 1, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Christine Anderson: Cycling. My dad used to be a cyclist when he was younger.

Hannah Harris (6): Gymnastics. I would really like to do gymnastics because I love doing cartwheels and handstands.

Annette Thornton: Swimming. It’s a nice cool sport fitting for this weather.

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? We have lived here for 12 months. We love that Forbes is a small country town with all of the conveniences of a larger town. We also love the lake and the friendly people.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I own Sweet Three Vintage Van and run that on the weekend. During the week I raise my three young children. I love meeting new people and getting to know the local Forbes families.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? Unwind… What’s that? Lol! We like to catch up with family and friends.

What are you really good at? Making waffles! Haha. I enjoy playing netball and other sports.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? To predict what’s going to happen in the future.

What is your pet hate? When people do not use their manners, fail to show respect and common courtesy.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. I attended a conference in Thailand when I lectured at CSU a couple of years ago and my family and I loved it! We also love travelling Australia and drove to Darwin and back in 2015 exploring SA, NT, QLD and NSW. The children still talk about both trips today.

Prime Opportunity

This property could well represent really good value for money if you are working with a modest budget.

There are three paddocks occupying 5,970 square metres which is approximately an acre and a half in old language.

A water well which is equipped with an electric pump, provides good quality water without any restriction on how much water you are allowed to use.

There is a great potential to set yourself up to be self sufficient on this property.

The two bedroom cottage appears solidly constructed, secure with good bones and would respond well to some TLC.

There are three large sheds capable of accommodating all manner of paraphernalia as well as an additional shed or animal shelter.

This property represents a sizeable portion of the small hamlet of Garema. Forbes is approximately 20km to the North and Grenfell about 53km South-East of Garema all on sealed roads.

What would you do if you were invisible for a day?

January 24, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Mel Hoey: I’d hide from my children so that I can eat and sleep all day – even though I love them very much!

Kym Goodall: I would walk around at work and make sure everyone is doing what they should be doing.

Troy Stonham: Rob a bank… haha!

What is your New Year’s Resolution?

January 18, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Kate Small: To stop drinking Coke and reduce the amount of sugar I eat.

Mark Watts: To spend more time with my family.

Leah Smith: To save money.
