Forbes Phoenix

Our Gal

April 19, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Stacey Clarke

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes for 22 Years (all of my life). I like living in Forbes because it’s such a friendly, pretty and historical town.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I work at Ian Simpson and Co as a sales agent. I enjoy coming to work to see my fellow colleagues, interacting with new and familiar faces as well as keeping in touch with the market by listing and selling homes.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? To unwind after work, I like to relax watching TV or cooking tea with my boyfriend, talking about the day and enjoying a cold beer!

What are you really good at? Fishing.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? If I could have any super power, I would love to be able to mind read.

What is your pet hate? My major pet hate is when there is a rattle in my car or someone else’s when driving.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. My favourite holiday was when my mum, dad and I travelled over to America and Canada for a month. Tripping around in a jeep, visiting so many sights and catching up with family, who I haven’t seen in years. This will always be such a memorable holiday!

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived on and off in Forbes for a little more than three years. It is a very welcoming community and is keen to support the public education of its young citizens. It is also an extremely generous community willing to chip in when the call goes out.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I am the Relieving Principal of Forbes High School but also a geography teacher. I enjoy creating opportunities for students to see what a big world they live in.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I like to spend time with my wife and our three kids. I listen to music, garden, watch movies with my kids, bush walk and cook!

What are you really good at? Listening, which is an essential skill in my position. I’m also a pretty good cook.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? The power to absorb every other super power and then utilise it!

What is your pet hate? Excuses… they serve no purpose!

Tell us about your best holiday ever. Hiking and motor-homing in the South Island of NZ with my family. Getting to fly around and land at the base of Mt Cook and climb over glaciers. Excellent food and beer too!

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in the Forbes area all my life. I grew up on a farm near Payton’s Bridge and moved to town in the late 1990’s. I love living in a small country town as you develop strong and long lasting friendships.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I have been working at Flannery’s Pharmacy for 20 years in various roles. I really love the variety of my role, the people I work with and of course Flannery’s customers.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I usually go for a walk around the lake very early in the morning. On weekends I like to spend time with friends, reading, watching movies, sampling some Rosé and doing housework!

What are you really good at? Touch typing, general knowledge and arguing.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? Mind reading… although, I might not like what I hear.

What is your pet hate? People who don’t know the facts before they write mindless blogs or Facebook posts… and people who agree with them.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. Going to Europe with some friends and family and driving a boat up the Canal Du Midi in France. Can’t wait to go back!

Ngari Walsh: What I love about Easter is spending time with my family, camping… and getting chocolate.

Dempsey O’Connell: My favourite thing about Easter is all the family coming around (including interstate). We have about 14 cousins! We swim and have a big breakfast on the verandah.

Ian Simpson And Co Successful Local Auctions

March 28, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Ian Simpson and Co has an impressive track record with auctions, following on from their March auctions held last week at Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo and Forbes. Ian Simpson and Co. held eight auctions over three days with a 50% clearance rate achieved. At Condobolin, the property at 8 Alldis Street sold under the hammer, as did 107 Flint Street, Forbes and 255 Farnell Street, Forbes. One of the properties at 8712 Lachlan Valley Way Forbes sold prior to auction.

Ian Simpson said, “We had a total of 19 registered bidders and a 50% clearance rate. Good inspections have followed for the properties that didn’t sell and we are confident a successful result will follow soon. We were pleased with the large attendance at all auctions and this shows that there is considerable interest in these two local markets at the present time, with buyers coming from both locally and surrounding areas.”

“I would like to congratulate our vendors and purchasers, wishing them all the best and huge thanks for their support. The buyers are becoming more comfortable and confident with our auction process which is great to see. The auction process enables the vendors to complete a sale within a shorter timeframe and with Open for Inspections, enables prospective buyers the opportunity to have a good look at the property prior to buying.”

Ian said, “I am pleased with this overall result for the year, as we have held 10 auctions with six sold, which is a 60% clearance rate. Our next round of auctions takes place on 19th and 20th April with five properties being auctioned.”

Our Bloke…Jim Carpenter

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here?  I have lived in Forbes for 35 years now. I love the community and its great people.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I have my own quarry. I love the outdoors and being my own boss.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I don’t like a lot of time off or too much time to think…but I do love to spend time with my three beautiful daughters.

What are you really good at? Not really good at much but I’m not a bad quarryman.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? If I had a super power, it would be to bring my beautiful Kristie back to us but I can’t, so I’d settle for being able to eradicate all cancers and stop the tragedy and heartbreak that goes with it.

What is your pet hate? My pet hate, hmmm…that would be how Australia is regulated by overeducated, inexperienced people in way too highly paid, underachieving positions of power.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. My best holiday was every holiday I ever had with my amazing family.

What was your favourite part of the President’s Lunch?

March 22, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Alex Mackinnon: Everything was amazing but my favourite part was the socialising before and after.

Mel Davie: The social aspect and the fact that we raised so much money for local charities.

Ian Simpson: Rowan Woods’ speech and his launching of the Peter Murphy Foundation. Also, the support shown.
