#Montefamousreview: Gretta Ziller –Queen of Boomtown.

Gretta is a Melbourne artist who has had a very diverse musical journey. With a background spanning rock, pop, classical, jazz, folk and bluegrass, Her much anticipated album Queen of Boomtown has burst into the music sphere living up to its name, as her voice booms at the right times, and sooths you tender moments. Gretta is simply stunning; her voice takes you to beautiful places as she sings her heartfelt stories. She will also rattle your musical soul with her masterful command of lyrics. Queen of Boomtown is a brilliant example of alternative country story telling. This album is the #Montefamous Review must have for September.

Payslips are required to disclose:

• the employer’s name and ABN;

• the employee’s name;

• the date of payment and pay period;

• the gross and net amount of payment;

Employers are also required to keep records of this information for at least seven years and a Fair Work Inspector has the right to inspect such records without any search warrant.

It is an offence not to comply with these requirements and an employee may be able to recover not only any back pay but may with the court’s approval recover the fine from the employer in some circumstances.

Prepare Now For Safe Summer Swimming

September 14, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Spring is upon us and it won’t be long before thoughts turn to summer and swimming, but is your pool safe?

Forbes Shire Council is urging residents to review their pool safety before summer arrives.

Forbes Shire Council’s Acting General Manager Max Kershaw said it was vital to ensure your pool has a compliant barrier. Pool gates need to be self-closing and the gap between the bottom of the barrier and the ground should be no more than 100mm.

“It is also very important that you check for bushes, vegetation and other climbable objects located in close proximity to the pool barrier and take appropriate action to reduce this risk,” said Max.

Portable and inflatable pools also have barrier requirements where they can be filled to a depth of 300mm or greater, however spas are exempt if they have a lockable cover.

Inadequate supervision is a factor in 59% of drownings and Max said supervision was vital to reducing drowning death.

“Pool barriers can and do reduce the risk but the most important safety measure is to ensure you are always supervising people in the pool, especially children,”Max said.

Wide Range Of Frames At Eyewear Specs

September 14, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Are you thinking of getting a new pair of glasses to start afresh in Spring? There are brand new frames at Eyewear Specs and you can choose from Van Staveren, Empire New York and Australian brand Clive and Wally.

Eyewear Specs also stock the most popular brand for children and adults namely Flexon/Nike. “To see what these glasses can do is nothing but extraordinary. They are made of titanium so they are ultra strong and flexible,” said owner/manager Fiona Hayward. “That is why they are perfect for children.”

And remember as a special you can get a free second pair with every new pair!

It is not just a case of getting new glasses when you feel like it. “Eye care is very important and it is essential that people have their eyes tested every two years,” says Fiona.

“Here at Eyewear Specs there is no cost to you for an eye examination as we bulk bill all testing with a valid Medicare Card.” According to Fiona there are up to 260 different eye frames and all stock is rotated every three months so you can be sure to pick an individual frame.

Make your appointment today by calling 6851 2299 or pop in at 95 Rankin Street in Forbes. “Please come and see us to have your eyes tested and we will tailor a pair of glasses to suit your individual financial budget.”

Grace And Charm

September 14, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Local woman, Grace Allen was sashed as the new Forbes Showgirl last Friday night. However, she hasn’t had time to bask in the splendour of winning the title. Instead, Grace is already back on duty fulfilling her role as a nurse in ICU at the Orange Hospital.

Grace was born and bred in Forbes and lived on their family property until she moved to Orange for work. Her goals for the future are to complete the Critical Care program through Orange Health. She is also looking forward to give it her all as the proud representative of Forbes at the zone judging held next February in Blayney.

Grace entered the Showgirl competition to ensure that the event would continue in future and that one day her children could have the same experiences as what she did at the shows.

Whilst representing Forbes as the Miss Showgirl, Grace is looking forward to promoting the show and getting everyone excited about the 2018 Forbes Show. She is also eager to meet up with the other Showgirl ambassadors at the etiquette course in January.

Croquet Notes

September 14, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Last Tuesday was a very busy day following the croquet games with the club’s Annual General Meeting, where a new committee was elected.

Congratulations to Elvy Quirk on becoming the new President. This was held by a general meeting where some great decisions were made to help us through the next year.

Thank you to the Post Office Hotel for allowing the space to conduct meetings, and for hosting the birthday lunch in their new restaurant. We were served with some very delicious food followed by a luscious birthday cake for dessert.

The winners of the day with three winning games were Lorna Field and Harley Stewart. Congratulations to John Allegri, a very new and emerging player with consistent wins every week in both golf and Aussie games.

The cold is still with us and we have two members in hospital as well as those who are still battling colds and flu. Roll on spring and some warmer weather.

Last Saturday, Dorelle Scott and Bob Murray were the clean sweepers with three winning games each followed by seven members winning two out of the three games. Congratulations everyone.

MAYORAL NOTES

September 14, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

What great weather we had for the Forbes Show on the weekend. Council’s stand at the show was awarded the Best Commercial Display – Outside for the third year. I thank all Councillors who came along over the two days as well as the staff who were involved.

Acting General Manager Max Kershaw and I attended the Elvis Festival media launch in Parkes on Monday. The festival program looks bigger and better than ever. We are very lucky to have Max acting as our General Manager until a new General Manager is recruited. Max is very experienced and we welcome him back to Forbes for this period.

Council has very carefully considered the future of its rural landfills and from Monday, 6 November changed operating hours and closures will come into effect. These changes include Bedgerabong and Garema landfills open limited hours and staffed while open, Ootha will be controlled via an agreed access system with residents and Wirrinya and Warroo landfills will be mothballed. Let ters will be mailed out to all residents who will be effected by these changes.

This weekend is another busy one with the Boscars Forbes Business Awards on tonight and tomorrow night the NSW Small Winemakers Wine Show presentation dinner. Maureen and I are looking forward to attending these great events.

I would like to wish the Forbes Platypi first grade team all the best in the grand final tomorrow in Orange. It’s been a great year for the Platypi and I hope they bring home the trophy.

Tiff Nicholson

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes for just over 20 years. I like living in Forbes as it’s such a pretty town with a great community.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I work at Red Bend Catholic College. I can honestly say that I love my job!

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? Unwind! What is that?

What are you really good at? Mmm, where to start! Maybe the question should be, “What am I not good at?” – cooking dinner, ask Hallie!

If you could have a super power, what would it be? To be invisible (only for a few hours a day)!

What is your pet hate? People that drive under the speed limit on a morning when I’m trying to get to work!

Tell us about your best holiday ever. My best holiday would have to be the Gold Coast.

Are You Happy With The Rebate Your Health Fund Pays For Physio?

September 7, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Recent research by the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) shows that many of the major Australian health funds have not substantially increased their rebate for seeing some physiotherapists in more than a decade. The APA has said that this is “inequitable and unfairly pressures patients into the health insurer’s selection of physiotherapist, despite choice being a core tenet of the Australian private health system.” Preferred provider schemes limit your freedom to choose the physiotherapist that is best able to treat their specific injury or condition.

The APA advises that when looking for a health fund that is right for you, you should look for one that not only meets your needs and provides good rebates for the services that you need but one that offers flexibility and allows you to see the physiotherapist that you want to see should you require their services.

The preferred provider schemes offered by health funds make no distinction between the level of experience or qualifications of your treating practitioner. The rebate you receive per consultation is the same whether you were treated by a new graduate on their  first day of work, or by someone like myself with an APA Sports Physio title, Masters degree and over 20 years of private practice experience. I am not part of any preferred provider scheme because I believe that, to achieve the best health outcomes, insurers should provide higher rebates for more experienced and qualified physiotherapists and they should allow you your choice of physiotherapist without you being financially disadvantaged. For the fitness of you.
