The Men’s Individual Stableford on Saturday, sponsored by a franchise of Grayson, Earl, French and Haley was contested by a smaller field of 50 players but did not lack in hot scoring.
In the A-Division, Phil Duke and Laurie O’Connor both finished on 40 points, with Phil Duke declared the winner on count back. The B-Division was hotter still, with Bede Tooth producing a scorching 46 points and well ahead of runner-up Steve Grallelis on 42.
The ball sweep went to 37 points on count back, going to: 46 – B Tooth; 42 – S Grallelis; 40 – P Duke, L O’Connor, F Donohoe; 39 – A Rees, D Rhodes, T Callaghan; 38 – D Bernardi, B Parker and 37 – R Smith, B Carpenter.
The NTP’s went to: 9th – P Kay; 18th – B Carpenter, where only Bruce converted for a ‘2’. We extend a warm welcome to a new arrival in Forbes, Royce Rutland. He enjoyed his golf but still could not finish without a ‘miss’.
Bob Borger played the shot of the day. His drive on the 11th was so low that it hit the Ladies tee marker in front of him, bounced skywards and only just made the mown fairway.
In Sunday’s Stableford Medley, a small group battled for the honours. The winner was Robert Hey (Parkes) with 40 points, closely followed by Greg Webb on 39 points. The NTP’s went to: 9th – R Hey; 18th – nil. Alas, not a ‘2’ in sight.
Forbes golfer, Digit McAulliffe competed in the NSW Senior Open, held at Thurgoona Club, in Albury. His day 1 score of 76 was quite competitive but his day 2 was ten shots worse, where his 86 dropped him back in the field.
Forbes welcomes its new Golf Pro, Ben Gear, due to start on 26th November. He shall be here to ‘meet and greet’ players during the Nissan Classic.

Forbes Country Music Club receives donation from RSL: Forbes Services Memorial Club General Manager, David Fitzgerald praised Forbes Country Music Club President, Phil Redding on Monday for the great work that has been done towards the Country Music Club this year. Being one of the club’s most successful years with the combined hard work of Secretary Helen Field, they were able to secure funding from many other major businesses this year. This paved the way for a very successful Forbes Talent Quest. This cheque will go towards next year’s Talent Quest. “I am honoured by the response and help given towards Forbes Country Music Club. This also helps us with fundraisers, where we too can give back to our community,” said Phil. Fundraising money has been donated to organisations such as the SES’s new sand bagging machine, the late John Rice fundraiser and this year’s members campout where a large amount was raised for the Cancer Council. “We are the guardians of the future. Without sponsors like the RSL, events such as the Talent Quest would be lost and there might be nothing for our future generations,” he said.
Water Notice Apologies: Council has been alerted that the recent water notices being received are a duplicate of the August accounts. Unfortunately an error has occurred at the mailing house which affects all water accounts that have been posted. Council is working to rectify this error and will have the correct accounts reissued as soon as possible. Water accounts received by email should not be affected. Council wishes to extend an apology for all ratepayers affected by this error and thank you for your understanding.
Water for skaters and their pooches: A new water bubbler has been installed at the Skate Park as part of the upgrades of this area. The bubbler includes a water fountain, drink bottle filler and a doggy bowl.
At the ski dam this summer: In the next few months some changes will be made at the ski dam. These include new and expanded playground equipment; beach area extended; new planting and irrigation in the gardens; upgraded amenities and new fencing and disabled parking and access.
Scarecrow and Veggie Garden Competitions: Don’t forget the Scarecrow and Veggie Garden Competitions is on next Saturday, 10th November from 9am at the Forbes Riverside Community Gardens.
CanAssist Forbes had some of their longstanding and hard working members receive award certificates at the recent NSW Centre for Volunteering Awards Night held in Bathurst. They were Chris and John Gorton, Lee Marsh, Kerry Dunstan and Carolyn Morrison, who was accompanied by husband Geoff.
Representative Netball Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Open Players for 2019 The Forbes Netball Association (FNA) is calling for representative coaches and assistant coaches for 2019. Applications will close at the next monthly meeting which will be held on 15th November.
All applications must be emailed to secretary. forbesnetball@gmail.com and state coaching experience and qualifications, and playing experience.
Representative coaches and assistant coaches being called for 2019 are for the under 17’s and 15 years. As well as for the 12 years, 13 years and 14 years.
Players must be turning the age in 2019 Anyone wanting more information can contact the Coach Convenor, Robyn Kenny.
Open Representative Team
Applications for players to trial for the 2019 FNA Open representative team to compete in the Regional League competition in Orange are now open. Applications will close on 21st November with the first selection trials to be held on 26th November.
Regional League will be played on 10th March and 24th March and finals on 31st March.
Training may commence end of 2018, depending on availability of players. Training will be held on Monday nights.
Bingo Fundraiser
The FNA will be organising a Bingo fundraiser on Sunday, 18th November from 2pm till 4pm.
Donations are needed for prizes and anyone with something to donate should contact the organiser, Rosa Gillogly, or any one of the committee members.
This will be a fun event and all members, friends and families and the Forbes and district community are all invited to attend.
Cost will be $20 for 20 games and the afternoon will be held at the Forbes Services Memorial Club.
Another dry hot week has passed with no sign of rain. Keep the prayers up and let’s hope we get some soon. The Local Government (LG) NSW Conference last week was excellent and we were very pleased to have the Premier Gladys Berejiklian and NSW Local Government Minister Gabrielle Upton in attendance. They were excellent in taking questions… and I might add there were some really curly ones.
Work has commenced on the saleyards extension. This grant funded project will enhance the selling capacity of the cattleyards and of course create more jobs in Forbes.
Forbes is alive with roses at the moment. I drove around on the weekend and the town looks great. Thank goodness they are drought resistant.
The Baby Boomers weekend at the Services Memorial Club was a hoot and with more local support it could grow to a huge event. There were people from all over Australia in attendance. As locals we really need to support the entertainment that comes to Forbes.

Dirtgirl is heading to The Greenhouse in Orange. Dirtgirl is a gumboot wearing, planet-loving girl – oh, and she’s also a rockstar who loves to sing and dance almost as much as she loves getting grubby (almost!).
Late 2017 saw dirtgirl launch a new show about her life. From the EMMY Award winning makers of the International hit animation, dirtgirlworld, comes Get Grubby TV (GGTV). Like the cartoon, GGTV is yet again a celebration of life outside set to music that the whole family can dig!
GGTV has reimagined the dirtgirlworld story to reveal the real place and the real characters… in the real world! As well as Costa the Garden Gnome (Costa Georgiadis), dirtgirl and scrapboy have some other new friends. Well actually, dirtgirl has a new band – an all-girl band and they seriously rock!
These musicians are home grown but know how to wow crowds around the world – as their other day job is as beloved international act, the Hussy Hicks. Accomplished guitarist and vocalist, Jules Parker stands alongside vocal powerhouse (and sometimes rockin’ drummer), Leesa Gentz, to form the heart of the Hussy Hicks. They are often joined by Tracy Bassy and on some special occasions, Kristy Gentz.
“I thought my place couldn’t get any better, and then the girls moved in next door; now we definitely have the most rockin’ neighbourhood around!” says dirtgirl.

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes for 31 years. I love that we are on the river, our beautiful lake and ski dam and our friendly community.

November is Asbestos Awareness Month to educate the public about the dangers of asbestos as Australia has one of the highest rates of asbestos-related diseases in the world.
Asbestos-related diseases continue to increase as a direct result of exposure to asbestos fibres during home renovations and maintenance.
Many people wrongly believe that only fibro homes contain asbestos, but asbestos products can most likely be found in any Australian home built or renovated before 1987, whether it’s brick, weatherboard, fibro or clad homes.
It’s vital that Australians take the warnings seriously, stop playing ‘renovation roulette’ and protect themselves and their families from exposure to asbestos fibres during renovations and maintenance.

Do you sometimes feel a pain in your hip or the outside of your knee after sitting for a while? Maybe when you stand up or when you run? It could be that you have a tight Iliotibial Band (ITB).
The ITB is a thick band of fascia that runs down the outside thigh. It starts at the top of your pelvis, runs over the hip and attaches to the outside of the knee. It also attaches to some of the buttock and hip muscles allowing it to co-ordinate how these muscles work to stabilise the hip and knee. Fluid sacs, called bursae, located at the hip and knee, provide cushioning between the ITB and the bones beneath. If the ITB is tight it can irritate the bursae causing inflammation and pain.
An inflamed bursa at the hip is called a Greater Trochanteric Bursitis and at the knee it is known as ITB Friction syndrome or runner’s knee.
The ITB shortens when sitting for prolonged periods. It can also tighten if the muscle is overworked. This occurs with sudden increases in exercise load or volume, or if pelvic control is poor due to weak hip and glute muscles.
Because the ITB is a thick, fibrous band rather than an elastic muscle it requires a longer lighter stretch than most muscles.
The use of a foam roller can also be quite helpful in increasing the flexibility in the ITB. A youtube search of “foam roller + ITB” will yield videos of how this can be done.

Croquet week ending 20th October
There were no major surprises at golf croquet last week Tuesday. The best efforts of the day were husband and wife, Ken and Marjorie Styles, who each won their three matches. Other winners of three matches were Lorna Field and Kevin Rubie.
The annual general meeting was held after the finish of croquet. We are pleased to advise that Elvy Quirk was voted in as President and Treasurer for the second year, with John Cole as Assistant President.
Colleen Liebich was again voted in as club Secretary. Steve Karaitiana from the Forbes Council, chaired the meeting.
Thank you Steve for your leadership.
Saturday’s Aussie croquet was spent trying to fit the three games in before the rain came. Thanks to the Forbes city council and some hard work by our youthful members, our two new courts were ready for competition. The winners of three games were John Browne, John Cole, Bruce Field and Kevin Rubie. Congratulations to you all!
