Question of the week – What support do you think can be given to farmers affected by the drought?

July 26, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Simon Rosa: I’d like to see more government and community support.

Kathie Westcott: We need to be supportive of each other. One needs to realise that what affects the farmers also affects the town – the struggle is on both sides.

Kristi Rosa: There should be just as much emotional support as financial assistance from government.

Our Gal -Yvonne Shaw

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I moved with my husband, Ian to Forbes 29 years ago from Tottenham. We chose Forbes because of its lovely green and welcoming feel. We have found it a wonderfully friendly place to live.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I retired in 2000 from my role as a Women’s Health Nurse. Since my retirement I have sat on numerous Shire committees. I also founded the Forbes Breast Cancer Support Group before my retirement and before I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I walk the lake six days a week and enjoy gardening.

What are you really good at? I hope I come across as a good listener and an advocate for women’s issues.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? To bring peace in the world.

What is your pet hate? Negativity.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. Ian and I went on a three month world trip to Europe, England, Scotland, Ireland, Canada and Honolulu.

Question of the week -What was the last good movie you watched?

July 19, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Toby Jarick: Star Wars. I liked it because I’m a big Star Wars fan.

Codie Smith: The Heat. I like a bit of comedy.

Lisa Jarick: Hacksaw Ridge. It’s a war film based on a true story and I found it very inspiring.

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I’ve been living in Forbes my whole life. I like living here because the people are easy to get on with and polite.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I work at Loomzy’s Fish ‘N’ Fix. I enjoy seeing different people that come in to say g’day.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I watch telly, fish and hang out with my mates.

What are you really good at? I play badminton… I’m pretty good at that.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? If I could have a super power, I’d choose super speed.

What is your pet hate? My pet hate is people who chew with their mouth open.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. My best holiday… I don’t go on holiday!

Question of the week -Do you think the plastic bag ban will help reduce pollution?

July 12, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Maureen Field: It will definitely help decrease pollution and I’m all for it!

Robyn Mattiske: I think it will lessen pollution, especially around the cities where it’s a big issue with plastic getting in the waterways and harming marine life.

Anne Hodges: I agree that the plastic bag should go and the biodegradable bags are great.

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have been living in Forbes for 16 years. I like living here because it’s very friendly, there are lots of activities to get involved in and it has beautiful weather especially when it’s colder in the winter.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I’m retired but belong to lots of groups such as the Forbes Eisteddfod, Arts Society, Bridge Club, Parkes Musical Society and Jemalong Residential Village Auxiliary.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I read, do needlework, knit and patchwork.

What are you really good at? I’m probably a good organiser. I was a high school principal in Sydney so probably also good with people and I play piano.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? None.

What is your pet hate? I don’t like intolerance.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. My best holiday was probably an overseas trip I did to Italy, Greece and England.

OWNERS MOVING ON

https://www.iansimpsonandco.com.au/rural-properties-for-sale/property-details/54-hillview-lane-eugowra-19206196

This property represents a unique lifestyle opportunity, with *15.68 ha (38.74 acres) close to town with town water available. Troughs are to 3 paddocks and a dam in the 4th. The house has 4 bedrooms, 3 with built-ins and fans, and carpet and wooden floors throughout.

With the fabulous media room outside this is a great space for entertaining with family and friends. There is a building with granny flat potential, chicken yards, sheds, steel cattle yards and 3 tanks, so water is no issue. This is suitable for running horses, cattle, and cropping and a property that rarely comes on the market.

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes my whole life. I like the fact that I can walk around town and say hello and have a friendly conversation with everyone.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about your work? I own and operate Cahill’s Footwear and have done so for the past 33 years along with my father Harry. I am very lucky to have great staff and enjoy being able to serve, meet and greet many friendly people each day.

What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I enjoy spending time with my partner Rachel and our children and grandchildren. Also, I’m told I am the worst golfer in Forbes but that is where you will find me every Saturday after work with my mates and a few beers.

What are you really good at? Tying up shoelaces.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? The power to heal.

What is your pet hate? Watching St George Dragons lose. Thankfully, that doesn’t happen often.

Tell us about your best holiday ever. Taking a cruise in the beautiful sunshine up to Port Douglas, white water rafting at Cairns and daring to take a dip in croc waters. Also, love the Gold Coast and theme parks with the kids.
