Our Bloke -Harley Stewart

How long have you been living in Forbes and what do you like most about it? I have been living in Forbes for 14 years. I like the slow lifestyle and the friendly atmosphere.
What do you currently do and what do you enjoy about it? I am enjoying retirement.

What is your favourite thing to do when you have free time? I have been running long distance all my life and still run twice per week. I have been learning French for four years. I also enjoy playing croquet and playing 500 at the Men’s Shed.

What makes you proud? My proudest moment was at the Olympic Games in Munich, watching New Zealand winning the gold medal for rowing. I was playing rugby in England and decided to go at the last moment.

If you could be an animal which one would you choose and why? I would choose a cat! You get two meals a day with snacks, a nice bed and with a few gentle purrs you get a cuddle from your carer.

What is your all-time favourite movie, song and/or book, and why? My favourite movie is “An Innocent Man” and my favourite singer is Andrea Bocelli.
Tell us about your best holiday. The best holiday for my wife and I, was taking three generations of family around the Pacific on a cruise for seven days over Christmas.

Who are your parents? Brad and Sam.

Where do you go to school? At preschool.

What do you love most about school? Playing duck duck goose.

What is your favourite sport? Athletics.

What is your favourite food? Chocolate and lollies.

What do you do in your spare time? Play.

If you could have a super power what would it be? Saving people.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself? I go to Aboriginal dancing with dad. Sometimes but not always.

How long have you lived in or around Forbes? Nine weeks. (Ari was born in Forbes).

Who are your parents? Ash Hogan and Kate… they work all the time.

Where do you go to school? Preschool and Bright Beginnings.

What do you love most about school? Playing outside.

What is your favourite sport? Basketball.

What is your favourite food? Dippin eggs.

What do you do in your spare time? Just play normally.

If you could have a super power what would it be? I want to have a rope and axe so I can get the baddies.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself? I like fishing and when I was three I caught one… just once.

Why is Anzac Day so significant to you?

How long have you been involved in Forbes and what do you like most about our town? I’ve been working in Forbes for the last 18 months. I love the great sense of community here.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about it? I’m the optometrist at Eyewear Specs. I love working in a small team in a small community. It means I really get to know and spend time with my patients.

What is your favourite thing to do when you have free time? I love going fishing with my dad during cod season.

What makes you proud? My brother and my cousins.

What is your all-time favourite movie, song and/or book? Favourite song: Dreams by Fleetwood Mac. Favourite book: Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. Favourite movie: The Hobbit Trilogy.

If you could be an animal which one would you choose and why? An owl. Being able to fly would be amazing.

Tell us about your best holiday. My trip to Nepal. The people were so wonderful and the country is just beautiful.

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like most about living here? I have lived in Forbes for the past five years. During my time in Forbes I have met some amazing people. I love living here as it is such a friendly, welcoming and supportive community.

Where do you work or what do you do currently and what do you enjoy about it? I currently work at the boys boarding at Red Bend Catholic College. In addition, I am involved with an organisation called Boys To The Bush. My role predominantly requires me to care for and support children in a range of contexts. I enjoy the challenge of working with those from struggling home lives and making what small difference I can.

What is your favourite thing to do when you have free time? Playing hide and seek with my children and weekends away with the wife.

What makes you proud? I feel proud when I witness the growth and development of children in regards to respect, morality and responsibility.

What is your all-time favourite movie, song and/or book? My all time favourite movie is Law Abiding Citizen. I love this movie as I believe in Karma.

If you could be an animal which one would you choose and why? A top line thorough bred stallion that’s at stud because I have always had a keen interest in horse breeding.

What have you been doing these school holidays?

Chiara Calvani: We’ve been to Sydney and did some shopping. We have also been spending time with family and friends.

Alessia Calvani: We went camping and did some fishing, went out on the boat and had camp fires.

Billy and Mia Buser: We went motorbike riding, saw Dumbo at the movies, went to the Western Plains Zoo, did some wood chopping, camping, swimming, and fishing and went to Canberra.

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like most about living here? I have lived in Forbes all 17 years of my life. I like the community spirit and how we always try to help one another.

Where do you work or what do you do currently and what do you enjoy about it? I work at Eyewear Specs as an Optical Dispenser. I enjoy being able to help our customers with their eye care needs.

What is your favourite thing to do when you have free time? I love making memories with my friends and family in my free time.

What makes you proud? Seeing my friends and family achieve their goals makes me proud.

What is your all-time favourite movie, song and/or book? My favourite song is ‘I miss you’ by Clean Bandit and Julia Michaels. I like the movie The Host. My favourite book series is Curse of the Gods.

If you could be an animal which one would you choose and why? If I could be an animal I would choose to be a wolf because I like how free they are.

What is on your bucket list? I would like to travel and learn more about other cultures.

 

OUR Bloke -Gary Hodges

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like most about living here? Apart from 1986 to 2000 when I left to join the military, I’ve lived in Forbes for the rest of my 50 years. I like the lack of crowds and traffic.

Where do you work or what do you do currently and what do you enjoy about it? I’m a self employed farmer. I like the wide open spaces and fresh air.

What is your favourite thing to do when you have free time? I fly aeroplanes and race go karts occasionally. I also pit crew/co-drive for my son, Jeremy in his race car.

What makes you proud? I’m always extremely proud of both my kids, Jeremy and Alyssa.

What is your all-time favourite movie, song and/or book? Movie: Topgun. Song: Don’t stop me now by Queen. Book: General Chuck Yeager’s Autobiography.

If you could be an animal which one would you choose and why? An eagle because they get up nice and high.

Tell us about your best holiday. Representing Australia at the World Skydiving Championships in 1997 in Turkey. Then travelling home via America with my girlfriend (now wife), Kerry after not having seen her for three months.

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like most about living here? I have lived in Forbes for pretty much my whole life. I love the small community and how everyone knows everyone!

Where do you work or what do you do currently and what do you enjoy about it? I work for Forbes Shire Council as the Youth Officer. It’s very rewarding to be able to offer fun and educational programs/events to the youth of our community.

What is your favourite thing to do when you have free time? To spend time with family and friends.

What makes you proud? My son and my family, especially my twin sister for all she has achieved.

What is your all-time favourite movie? My favourite movie is 8 Seconds!

Tell us about your best holiday. My best holiday was to Darwin with my entire family. It was so beautiful and my first time on a plane.

What is on your bucket list? To travel the world, especially America!
