Parkes Christian School Information Night For Forbes.

The capability for Forbes school students from kindergarten right through to Year 12 to attend Parkes Christian School, has been further expanded by an exclusive daily bus service between Forbes and Parkes.

Any parents who may be considering the school as an option for 2019 can find out more at an information night next Wednesday from 7pm at the Baptist Church in 7 Attlee Street, Forbes.

The school recently purchased their own bus specifically to make the run between Forbes and Parkes. It is a new 42-seater bus that is fully kitted out with air conditioning, seatbelts and comfortable seats.

“Our bus has already been a huge success with 26 students making the trip daily, however there are still seats available,” said school Principal, Glen Westcott.

“If the demand is there we will expand our bus service. It’s all free of charge, which shows the commitment we’re making to Forbes.”

The school has a very strong performing arts program, having produced a full-scale production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe this year. Students also have the opportunity to take part in music, dance, drama and visual arts programs along with a growing field in digital and multimedia technology. There is also a very strong technology department for students.

Parkes Christian School is the only school in Australia that participates in the Moomba Birdman Rally, as well as being the only school to ever attend the International Military Drone Racing Championships.

The school has also taken part in the prestigious EduTech conference as an official partner with Google and is the only school in country NSW with all teachers being accredited in the use of Google Apps for Education. Students use these apps daily in the classroom and have the opportunity to take part in robotics and coding programs.

Students participate in a wide range of sporting activities and carnivals, academic competitions and charity events. However, the main focus for the school is student wellbeing and strength of character.

“We take the time to get to know each student and help them work towards their future goals, no matter what that path may look like.

“For some, that means a huge academic focus so they can get into their dream university course, but for others it means gaining practical experience so they can enter the workforce or an apprenticeship.

Red Bend Catholic College Rich In Heritage

Red Bend Catholic College is a co-educational day and boarding school situated in Forbes. Red Bend Catholic College has a proud heritage. Prior to 1977, the Catholic education of students in this region was provided by three secondary schools. In February 1977, these three schools combined to form one co-educational high school, with the name of Red Bend Catholic College at the site of the former Marist Brothers’ College on the banks of the Lachlan River.

The Parkes Musical & Dramatic Society’s home has been transformed into a state of- the art theatre and they are ready to celebrate with a gala concert that showcases memorable moments from musicals and concerts over the past 18 years – since the last refurbishment in 2000.

Over $500,000 was spent on lush new theatre seats, tiered flooring and modern interior design. It is only fitting that a hugely talented cast, band and crew of over 60 members, who had all been involved in previous productions, will make Goosebumps a memorable show. It will feature well-known songs, such as Hard knock life, Pick a pocket, Climb every mountain, Beauty and the Beast, I don’t know how to love him, Somewhere over the rainbow, Timewarp, Supercalla, and medleys from Grease and Les Miserables.

There are only six performances on 19th, 20th, 21st, 26th, 27th and 28th October.

How do you legally become married in Australia? Firstly, you have to decide to marry and who is going to be the celebrant. Priests, ministers of recognised religions and registry officers are nominated by their religious bodies to be marriage celebrants.

How do you become a civil marriage celebrant? Being appointed a Justice of the Peace does not allow you to be a marriage celebrant. Before applying to become a Commonwealth-registered marriage civil celebrant you must:

(a) be 18 years of age;

(b) complete Certificate IV in Celebrancy at a registered training organisation and ;

c) be a fit and proper person and be of good standing within the community.

Secondly, you are required to give a marriage celebrant at least one month’s notice and not more than 18 months’ notice of an intended date of marriage.

The priest or marriage celebrant will provide you with the Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) to complete. The marriageable age is 18 years. If a person is 16 or 17 and wishes to marry prior to their 18th birthday, a court can give authority for the marriage to be solemnised, although parents may also give their permission. A NOIM may be lodged prior to the 18th birthday, as long as the marriage occurs after the birthday.

Both parties are required to provide original birth certificate or passport. If either party has been previously married, you must provide evidence of the termination with either a divorce certificate (if divorced) or a full death certificate (if widowed). Certificates in a foreign language must be translated into English by an authorised interpreter/translator service. Photocopies are not accepted.

Excitement is mounting for the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Dubbo next Wednesday with the Mayor inviting the community to a picnic in the park.

Prince Harry and Meghan will fly from Sydney to Dubbo on the second day of their official visit to Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga and New Zealand.

They will first visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service to learn more about the life-saving role the aviation service provides for people living in rural and regional areas.

The Duke and Duchess will then travel to Victoria Park to join people from Dubbo and surrounding areas at a picnic in the park to celebrate community spirit within the region, and His Royal Highness will give an address.

The historic event in Victoria Park will start at 11:30am and is an opportunity for the public to catch a glimpse of their Royal Highnesses.

The Mayor of the Dubbo Region, Ben Shields has invited the community to a picnic in Victoria Park to welcome the Royal visitors to the region. “Dubbo’s Picnic in the Park will be a great day out for the whole region. Council staff have been working hard to ensure we deliver a great festive atmosphere with music and activities that celebrate our regional community,” the Mayor said.

Representatives at the picnic will include members of the community who have made special contributions in the services of youth, community and the environment, as well as organisations supporting people affected by drought.

The Picnic in the Park will run for three hours with musical performances and food stalls. All the proceeds will go to local charity.

It’s here! A Midsummers Night’s Dream… the spectacular theme for the wonderful 2018/2019 BOSCARS in Forbes.

The committee is excited to be hosting the BOSCARS to be held on the 8th February 2019 and are looking forward to many businesses participating.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a comedy written by William Shakespeare in 1595/96. It portrays the events surrounding the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, to Hippolyta, the former queen of the Amazons.

These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies. It almost sounds a bit like business!

The Forbes BOSCARS committee rolls out 11 award categories that culminate in the coveted Business of the Year.

The People’s Choice Awards will be held via an online voting portal. These are Tradie of the Year and the Most Popular Business.

The BOSCARS open on 12th October 2018.

Samuel Johnson is an Australian actor, radio presenter, voiceover artist and philanthropist. In 2001 Samuel Johnson was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal (Queen’s New Year’s Honours List) for his services to Australian society and Australian film production.

He has also held the title for GQ Magazine’s Social Force of the Year, received the 2015 Research Australia Advocacy Award which he shares with his sister, Connie Johnson and in 2016 he was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his services to cancer research.

In 2003, Samuel rode 1,003.4 kilometres from Sydney to Melbourne on a unicycle to raise $500,000 for children’s cancer charity, Canteen.

Ten years later he decided to ride the unicycle again! This time he would ride around the whole of Australia, raising close to $2 million for the Garvan Institute of Medical Research to find a cure for breast cancer and setting a new Guinness World Record.

This was done to assist Connie to spread her message of breast cancer awareness. A few years on, the Love Your Sister foundation, the charity he founded with Connie, is going strong. Having achieved all the goals he and Connie (who has sadly passed on) set out to achieve, Samuel continues to raise the bar. The current challenge being to raise $10 million for cancer research. Well on his way, having already raised over $4 million, Samuel won’t stop raising awareness until cancer is vanquished.
