Netball News

September 4, 2020 by Maggi Barnard

The Forbes Netball Spring Night Competitions for both mixed and ladies’ teams played the second grading games on Wednesday night.

There is still time for teams to enter the competitions, and some new teams have entered since last week. The competition will start on Wednesday, 9 September and all teams must be entered by Saturday night, 5 September.

The competitions will be played through until the finals on 2 December 2020, with no competition during the school holidays.

Anyone looking for more players or players looking for a team should email Secretary Mon, secretary.forbesnetball@gmail.com.

This year a 17 and under, and a ladies’ division 2 has been formed for players who want to have a more social game.

Team nomination forms are available on the FNA website, alternatively teams can come to the office on Wednesday night.

Team representatives are also asked to make a note of the players who are playing in the second competition on their team sheet.

This must be done to ensure that mixed and ladies’ teams are not allocated to play at the same time in the draw. Team representatives are also reminded to look carefully through the draw for umpiring duties.

Once again there was no croquet played on Saturday due to a misty morning and the extremely cold winds.

A new ruling had been put in place that players must arrive ten minutes before the start of play so that numbers can be put in the draw to be ready to start play on time.

With COVID-19 still scouting around, players must always remain vigilant and continue to practice social distancing.

COVID-19 Guidelines For Netballers

August 28, 2020 by Maggi Barnard

The Forbes Netball Association (FNA) has a COVID-19 Safe Plan. All players are asked to enter the courts on Stephen Field via the left-hand side of the office and exit in the space between the toilet block and the skate park.

Everyone entering the court area must sign in at the entry point, leaving their name and contact phone number.

All players are asked to remember to maintain their social distance, for more detailed information please visit the FNA Facebook to view the FNA COVID-19 Safety Plan or visit the Netball NSW website.

Players are asked to please do their own health check, and if players are feeling unwell, do not enter the courts area.

The canteen will not be operating at this stage however, water can be bought from the office along with chocolate for fundraising

Teams are asked to please bring their own identification tags if possible. Teams are not allowed to swap position patches if they are to be worn by a second team. After a team wears a set of position patches they must be immediately returned to the office at the end of the game.

The competition levy of $50 per player, per team can be paid at the office in cash.

The FNA began the Spring Night Competitions for both mixed and ladies’ teams this week, with the first of two grading games played on Wednesday, 26 August.

Ridley Demolishes The Course

August 28, 2020 by Maggi Barnard

Stephen Uphill prepares for his tee shot.

The Men’s competition on Saturday was an 18-Hole Stroke event, sponsored by Steele Technology, in which John Ridley defied the conditions and blasted his way to a low score, unlike most of the 66 players.

The Division 1 was won by Nick Greenhalgh, with 75 nett, but only by count back from Mike Spice. Nick’s par on the 18th was the clincher. The Division 2 was emphatically led by John Ridley with his 67 nett score. Runner-up was Troy Howe on 74 nett, which was more representative of most of the scores.

The ball sweep went to 78 nett on count back; 75 – A Rees, N Ryan, L Whitfield; 76 – A Dukes, D Bayley, T Callaghan, G Drane, J Bernardi; 77 – S Uphill, B Slack-Smith, T Griffiths, J Cutler; 78 – A Cole, D Churchill, K Herbert, T Morgan, J Haley, J Dobell.

The NTP’s went to; 9th – T Howe; 18th – D Bayley, with Peter Dawson nabbing the third hole ‘Super Pin’ prize. Visitor Steven Thomas had a rusty start but soon warmed up to enjoy his game.

Sunday’s weather was not very inviting, affecting the Sunday Medley field. The winner on count back was Rob Webb with 31 points from Ethel Coombs.

Plans are underway for the VW Scramble, to be held on 25 October, focusing on local attendees.

All players are reminded that they are not to scan their own cards, but instead leave them in the Pro Shop or give them to a designated person. This procedure is a result of the recent COVID inspection. Remember we still need to socially distance in the Golfie and at outside places.

Saturday, 29 August is the Golf NSW 2-P Ambrose, sponsored by Marg & Ron Hurst, and Shirley Redfern. The format includes Men’s, Ladies and Mixed pairings. Sunday, 30 August has a Stableford Medley.

Saturday Junior Mixed Netball
There is still time to come and try Saturday Junior mixed netball, but all the girls and boys who have been coming are now required to register. This will allow the committee to structure the programming on Saturday mornings.

Players will be asked to record their names before they play in both time slots, so they are asked to come 10 minutes earlier, so this can happen, and not take up any playing time.

Thank you to all the parents who are helping with the sessions, it makes for a lot of fun when everyone can enjoy their time at netball.

Players register online in MyNetball, and the link is on Forbes Netball Facebook.

If anyone needs help with registration they can come to the office on Saturday and ask. Some restrictions are still in place because of COVID-19 and the FNA has a COVID-19 Safety Plan in place.

Junior players can be accompanied by one adult only, and everyone is required to observe social distancing. Thank you to everyone for observing the restrictions that are in place, so the committee can run junior netball and all players can enjoy their time at netball in a safe environment.

There was no Aussie Croquet played last Saturday due to wet weather.

The Club continues their heartfelt thanks to a small few of the members who make every effort to make sure the fields are set out each day of play and make sure all is in readiness for morning tea, as well as making sure all Croquet notes get to the paper on time. A special thank you for the effort made from all of those members.

Golf Notes With Short Putts Mate

August 14, 2020 by Maggi Barnard

Adam Demidjuk introducing Peter Barnes to a new range of golf shoes.

Adam Demidjuk is looking forward to working with the Forbes community after his recent appointed role as FGA Resident Golf Professional.

“Even at this early stage I have noted Forbes is a friendly community and I am thrilled to be part of it,” Adam said. While Forbes is the first full time appointment as a resident professional for the 32-year-old, Adam brings a wealth of knowledge to the position.

Since starting his traineeship at Long Reef Golf Club, Adam has attended appointments at Bayview and Kareela Golf Clubs as Assistant and Teaching Club Professional.

“While I believe it has been quite busy here on the course in recent months, I want to see golf continue to improve in playing numbers and become a major part of the sporting community.”

“I have learnt early that Forbes has some very talented players and I would like to give new golfers and learners an experience they will never forget.” Adam said.

Adam feels Forbes has a terrific course, having played two rounds since arriving, his first two over par 74, while he improved by six in his most recent outing two weeks ago. “I’ve heard plenty about the form of some of the A graders here, I’m looking forward to getting out on the course with them, and members in all grades,” Adam said.

Last Saturday the Frances family sponsored a Four-Ball Best Ball Stableford which attracted 51 players, far down from previous weeks due undoubtedly to weather conditions with parts of the course under water.

Troy Howe, handicap 19 and Charlie Dwyer, 8 have been regular players in recent months proving they were more than comfortable in the muddy, wet conditions with a score of 42 points.

Tomorrow, Saturday, 15 August will be a Stableford sponsored by Gunn’s Traffic Control while on Sunday the 27-hole Mixed Foursomes Championships is scheduled.
