The B Grade was won by Barry Parker (nett 68) from runner-up was Tony Wallace (69 nett). C Grade saw Bruce Squires win with 68 nett ahead of Tom Toohey on nett 69.

The Sunday Stableford Medley had a small field. The winner was Jacob Bernardi with 35 points. Runner-up was Ethel Coombs with 31 points.

Winners On Count Back Again

March 26, 2021 by Maggi Barnard

The 4BBB Stableford, sponsored by C & D Floorcoverings, on Saturday was contested by a field of 72 players but again required a count back to separate the winners.

Ray Sanderson teamed with Harry Callaghan to score 46 points. They were joined by Jonathon Cutler and Glendon Hopper, also on 46 points. However, a better back-9, by one shot, was enough to give Ray and Harry the win.

The ball sweep went to 41 points on count back, so check in the Pro Shop for your result. The NTP’s went to: 9th – John Zannes, 18th – Peter Dawson, with Dave Mylecharane taking the 3rd hole Super Pin.

There was no Sunday Stableford Medley, with many wanting to avoid the inconsistent showers. But there was a big group of players from Cowra, who were in town for the weekend.

The Sanderson Memorial Golf Day is on this Saturday, 27 March. This is a 4-Ball Ambrose event, open to Club and social players. Ring the Pro Shop – 6851 1554 – now if you want to get in.

The Sixes Competition has reached the Grand Final stage, with the Main Draw playoff to be held this Sunday, Mar 28, while the Plate Play-off games were played through the week. The Presentation Dinner is on Sunday night.

Players are reminded to put your name on the list in the Pro Shop for the Wallace Cup Match Play championship, due to commence in late April.

Head Pro Adam is organising some more Demo Days. The Taylor-Made Equipment Day is scheduled for April 15, with a Mizuno Equipment Day coming also. Contact Adam – 0433 485846.

Preparations are underway for both the Ladies and Men’s Forbes Opens, to be held in early May. Check your Programme book for the dates and spread the word.

Count Backs Decide Golf Results

March 19, 2021 by Maggi Barnard

The Individual Stableford on Saturday March 13 was keenly contested with count backs needed to determine winners.

The Division 1 was won by Robb Webb with his 39 points, finishing ahead of Harry Callaghan on 37 points. Division 2 had three players finishing on 39 points with the winner being Matt Duff, ahead of Jeff Haley, who was a whisker ahead of Joel Tongue (Dubbo).

The NTP’s went to: 9th – Matt Duff, 18th – Dan Bayley, while the 3rd Hole Pro Shop Super Pin went to Richard Nixon who near-ly scored a ‘hole-in-one’, with his shot finishing just 2cms short of the hole.

There was no Sunday Stableford Medley, with many put off by the indifferent weather.
Our CWDGA Pennants teams did not fare well. The Division 1 team lost to a strong Mudgee side by 5-0, while the Division 4 team went down 4-1 also against Mudgee.

Hopes for a pennant flag rested with the Division 2 team, but unfortunately they lost in a close contest also to Mudgee.

The sixes competition finished the second week of finals with Still Trying and Hook, Drive & Sink It going straight to the main draw grand final. Play-offs involve Just for Fun vs Jit n Miss, and Cowhands v Part Time Putters.

The plate finalists are Hackers & Wacker’s and Forbes Auto, with Bush Divas vs Lost in the Trees and Banana Split Pants vs Grant Howell AE in the play-offs.

Players names are needed for the presentation dinner while the Sanderson Memorial day is set for March 27.

Sallaway Hits Ace

January 29, 2021 by Maggi Barnard

Shane Sallaway points to the pitch mark and his ball which earned him a Hole-in-One.

The Saturday Men’s competition, sponsored by Rob Allen Livestock Transport, was an Individual Stroke event. Conditions were very hot and were made hotter by Shane Sallaway who finished his round with an ace on the 18th.

The Division One winner was Bruce Carpenter, with 69 nett. He was 1-over on the front-9 but stumbled a bit on the back-9. Runner-up was Brian Everest, on count back from new player Caleb Hanrahan with both finishing on 70 nett.

In Division Two, Les Little lovingly stroked his sticks as he won the day with a 72 nett. Nick Ryan finished as Runner-up with his nett 73 but would love to replay the 17th. Shane described his shot as ‘sweetly hit’, using a 6-iron and playing a draw shot to hold it into the wind. The ball landed barely a foot short of the hole and bounced straight into the hole. This is Shane’s second ace in as many years.

Matt Duff putts while Dave Bernardi watches intently.

The 2021 CWDGA Pennants commences 7 February. Players are needed for the Division Four team, those with a GA handicap of 17.5 or higher are encouraged to contact John Betland on 0437 572529.
