Presented by Boeing in collaboration with NASA, Above and Beyond makes one thing very clear; the sky was never the limit.

The Business Chamber is keen to support, develop and promote events to bring more visitors to the region. Council’s Penelope McGufficke will attend the AGM of the Forbes Business Chamber on the 13 July 2017 to share details of developments. #Montefamous Review
Future Creature Vol 2
Vol 2 is Future Creature’s second EP. The duo of Matt and Eliana have blended Rock, Electronic and Pop genres, to create a wonderfully mastered EP that explores themes of life, loss, relationships and so- cial isolation.

Driving rock beats and powerful guitar riffs are interspliced with a strong electron- ic polish that, along with pop vocals, give Vol 2 a unique quality that will have you hit- ting the repeat button.

Each time you listen to Vol 2 you will find a new level of stunning complexity and beauty. It is a perfect reflection of what the blending of genres can create. I highly recommend Future Creature’s Vol 2.

Montefamous’ must have album for July: Taryn La Fauci’s debut album “Cycling” is the perfect combination of stripped back melody and exquisite vocals. This neo-folk album will take you on an adventure filled with music. Taryn’s voice and lyrics will infuse your mind and heart, delivering a message of love, hope and determination. The simplicity of the melody and basic beats enhance all of the tracks on “Cycling”, highlighting the most powerful instrument on the album, Tayrn La Fauci’s voice. The perfect album to listen to on your own on those cold winter days or as background to an intimate dinner, the songs on “Cycling” will generate a conversation. “Cycling” is my #Montefamous must have album for July.

Keep clear of emergency crews in the cold: Essential Energy is asking motorists to remain vigilant around emergency response crews repairing the electricity network in challenging working conditions during winter. Regional Manager Northern, Mark Summers said, “The nature of unplanned outages means Essential Energy crews can find themselves working in freezing conditions, on frost-laden or wet ground, and potentially near roads. And motorists travelling near worksites in cold weather should exercise extreme caution.”

Essential Energy crews wear high visibility clothing, operate fog and hazard lights in poor weather conditions, and always display safety signage. Where possible, motorists are encouraged to plan a route that avoids areas where repairs to the electrical network are being undertaken or to allocate extra travel time to get to their destination.

For more information on electrical safety, visit: www.essentialenergy.com.au/safety or call Essential Energy on 13 23 91.

Forbes Riding for the Disabled: Every week volunteer teachers and helpers help groups of special children enjoy the pleasure of horse riding. To see and hear the joy of these children is something you have to experience for yourself. If you would like to become an RDA volunteer please contact Leanne Smith on 0473 509 752 or Veva MacCullagh on 0427 511 770.

NAIDOC Week Film Screening – As part of NAIDOC week, which runs from 2-9 July, Lachlan Reconciliation group will show the film “Yindyamarra Yambuwan” (respect is everything) to local audiences in Parkes and Forbes, and launch a book of the film. This year’s NAIDOC theme is “Our Languages Matter”, so it is apt that the 15 minute film is in Wiradjuri language, with English subtitles. The film includes intro- ductions from members of the Wiradjuri Council of Elders, Dr Uncle Stan Grant Senior and his sister Aunty Flo Grant.

Parkes Shire Council will offer multiple screenings at the Coventry room in the Council building on Saturday 1 July, between 12noon and 4pm. The Forbes Aboriginal & Community Working Party will host a single screening at Forbes Ser- vices Club on Saturday 8 July. Gawaym- banha biyambul (welcome all).

Leave The Gun – Pick Up A Boscar! Yes, we can now reveal that the spectacular theme for the 2017 BOSCARS Forbes Business Awards is The Godfather.

The Godfather story spans 1945 to 1955 and chronicles the life and times of a fictional New York Italian crime family. It tells the Mafia story from the inside, revealing its secrets, charms, and loyalties to questionable causes.

For the women wearing beaded dresses and gorgeous jewellery, and the gangsters in their dark double-breasted suits, tilt hats, and dark glasses, there is one commandment, “Don’t ever take sides against the family.” See you at the Forbes Services Club on 15 September.

Red Nose Day – Celebrating its 29th year today, Red Nose Day is fundamental in highlighting the devastating fact that each year in Australia over 3,200 babies and children die suddenly and unexpectedly – with causes including stillbirth, SIDS and fatal sleep accidents.

Since Red Nose’s inception, over $16.7 million has been devoted to researching stillbirth, neonatal death, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and other causes that contribute to the 3,200 unexpected in- fant deaths that devastate Australian fami- lies each year.

Red Nose relies on public support of Red Nose Day to help fund its life-saving research projects as well as education and bereavement support programs. You can get involved today by buying a red nose or other Red Nose Day product, or making a donation.

Outstanding Result: Forbes High School is a registered Positive Behaviour Learning (PBL) school. PBL is embedded within the school’s everyday practice of learning, teaching and leading. And it seems that it’s working! With an outstanding result of 241 students being eligible for the schools State of Origin excursion, positive behaviour learning is definitely making an impact.

#Montefamousreview: Tania Kernaghan All Australian Girl
Tania Kernaghan’s latest album All Australian Girl is a great country romp. Beautifully produced and lovingly presented, Tania sings her tributes to the Australian out-back, her family and the Australian way of life. It is Tania’s seventh album and it is an album that is positive, happy and uplifting and will make you feel good. I am not a big fan of the country genre, however this is one album I had no problems listening to on repeat. Tania’s singing is effortless and seductive. It is the perfect album for any afternoon adventure.

For the children: Forbes Shire Council is offering residents free child restraint checks next week. The inspection will be provided by RMS authorised child restraint fitters from 12 to 2pm on Wednesday, 21st June at Jelbart Dawson. Phone 6861 2364 to secure your place.

Information about national child restraint laws, the types of restraints and advice on moving children from one restraint type to the next will be available. There will also be a free barbecue and a colouring-in competition for kids with a prize worth $50.

Forbes Shire Council’s Road Safety and Injury Prevention Officer Melanie Suitor said the free child restraint checking day, held every year, was usually well patron- ised. “The correct fitting and adjustment of child restraints is vital. Research shows that two out of three child restraints are not being used properly and this puts children at risk in the event of a crash.”

“Last year 80% of the child restraints inspected were found to be installed in- correctly. Most had minor problems that needed fixing to ensure the safety of the child, such as tightening straps, checking clips and replacing loose bolts.

“It is important to have your child restraint checked regularly after prolonged use and installed correctly before use to ensure that your precious cargo is safe.”

Stickers: Forbes Neighbourhood Watch held a barbeque at Acheson’s Home Timber and Hardware for their big sale day recently. If you are interested in a sticker, please call Lyn Ward on 0417 536 619.

Local Land Service (LLS) Election: Local farmer Chris Sweeney is standing in the LLS Election held this month. He is one of eight candidates seeking election for the Central West Local Land Services. The other candidates are Jenny Bradley, Don Schieb, Sharon Portelli, Alan Smith, Penny Heuston, Peta Tumpey and Will Martel. The election is held every three years and is an opportunity for ratepayers to elect a member of the board to represent them and their views on how the Local Land Ser- vices will be structured over the next few years. Enrolled rural ratepayers can vote online or via postal vote until 5pm on 31st May.

Water Bills: Forbes Shire Council is reminding ratepayers that the latest water bills are for the period from the end of November to mid-March. This works out at an average of 108 days usage at $1.14 per kilolitre of water used. General Manager Danny Green said it was important to con- sider how many days were included rather than just comparing to the previous charge as the former period was for only 88 days. An increase of 11 cents per kilolitre of wa- ter used for 2016-2017 was also included.

Hair-razing effort! The extraordinary peo- ple who shaved or coloured their hair and their generous sponsors have raised al- most $5 million in NSW in support of this year’s World’s Greatest Shave.

The money raised for the Leukaemia Foundation will help to fund projects to provide safe and comfortable accommoda- tion in the city for families living in regional NSW, and to offer free transport, counsel- ling, information and practical support to the 60,000 Australians living with a blood cancer.

Nomination: The #MonteFamous show on 2LVR Valley FM has been nominated in the 2017 Community Broadcasting Asso- ciation of Australia Radio awards. Monte has interviewed 201 artists since the program’s inception, and has given
a number of the artists their debut on the air waves.
