Australia’s greatest soul voice Doug Parkinson presents the ultimate tribute to Joe Cocker on Saturday 22nd June at the Dubbo Regional Theatre.

Australian singing legend Doug Parkinson. Cocker is most famous for what he did  other people’s songs Hitchcock Railway, Delta Lady, You Can Leave Your Hat On, She Came in through the Bathroom Window, The Letter, You Are So Beautiful, Up Where We Belong and Cry Me A River.

Just a few of the songs Doug Parkinson has included in this new show that rolls along and leaves the audience spellbound.

Cocker chose well. He had hit records with songs from the Beatles, Ray Charles, Billy Preston, the Animals and Traffic among others – and then he magically reworked them.

Add in his famous gritty vocals and Cocker’s interpretations often surpassed the celebrated originals.

There couldn’t be a more appropriate singer in Australia to showcase the ultimate tribute to Joe Cocker than the gravelly soulful voice of Australian singing legend Doug Parkinson, often described as exciting and impassioned and also a master of interpreting others’ songs.

Parkinson is not only an entertainer but an amazing vocalist. One example that brings the house down night after night is the huge hit for Doug, and probably the best version to date; the Beatles’ Dear Prudence.

Forbes Shire Council is holding the first New Residents Welcome to Forbes Reception at the Forbes Sports and Recreation Club on 31st May. It will be a fun night for new residents to get to know a little bit more about the community as well as meet the Councillors and local organisations from the Shire.

The event will be a casual get together with drinks and light refreshments and a casual game of barefoot bowls.

“Many of those burning questions can be answered. It will also give people an opportunity to talk with others who are in the same boat,” said Forbes Mayor, Phyllis Miller.

In recent times, local IT shop Steele Technology has seen a surge in the number of scam victims of home users as well as businesses.

They are urging people to really think before acting, especially when you receive a call wanting access to your computer or regarding your internet.

If it doesn’t sound right, ask for a case number, tell them you will call them back, but do not call the number they provide. Look up the number on your last invoice or Google it.

The same principle applies to emails, or more recently a letter with a call back number on it. Ensure the sender is who they say they are. Never click on an invoice or link without being 100 percent sure it is correct. If you do click on a link and it takes you to a website, never enter any details!

Be sure that you have working, anti-virus protection or seek help to ensure your device is not corrupted. If you have provided your bank details, inform your bank. If you have provided someone with your password, change that password as well as for anything else you use the same password for.

For the past four years, Carolyn Keep and Debbie Veale have successfully been organising The Pink Night. However, this year the event held at the Trundle Service and Citizens Club on 3rd May surpassed all expectations after raising an astonishing $20,458 for women’s cancer.

Almost immediately after securing celebrity sports presenter, Michael Cain from Channel 10, Carolyn and Debbie knew it would be a great night!

“Michael managed to gather up some amazing sporting memorabilia, including NRL premium grand final tickets. This was the highest bid item for the evening, going for $1,275 to a lovely lady from Forbes who lost her husband to cancer,” said Carolyn.

“That’s how the rest of the night continued with so many other beautiful people, all having a story of their own. We laughed a lot and we cried a lot.”

“It’s always a night filled with emotion, compassion and determination to help in any way we can to end all the loss from this horrid thing called cancer,” she continued.

Carolyn feels incredibly lucky to live in Trundle. “Ït’s a tiny town with the biggest heart on the planet! We don’t ask for any donations or advertise for helpers, it just comes! Everything in the auction is dropped off in the weeks leading up to this extraordinary event and our tireless helpers work all night after they have finished work,” said Carolyn.

This year’s raffle had over 36 prizes and the auction about the same, live music played in the car park arena and the dance floor remained packed.

“We would like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to each and every person that helped make the evening such a phenomenal success,” said Carolyn.

 

Guarantor loans have become prevalent in recent times as banks try to spread the liability for loans. These types of loans are usually structured in such a way that the loan is secured by both the property you are buying and the property owned by the guarantor. Here are some types of guarantees:

1. Security guarantee: First time home buyers with an excellent credit history but no deposit will use this type of guarantee. The guarantor, called an ‘equity guarantor’ by some lenders, uses real estate they own as additional security for the mortgage in question. If the guarantor has a loan on their property already, the bank can usually take a second mortgage as security.

2. Security and income guarantee: These guarantors are often parents helping their child who is a student or who has insufficient income to buy a property. The lender will use the parents’ property as additional security and rely on the parents’ income to prove that the loan is affordable.

3. Limited guarantee: The guarantor only guarantees a part of the loan. This is mostly used with security guarantors to reduce the potential liability secured on the guarantor’s property. Guarantees can either be limited or unlimited, depending on both the guarantor’s wants and the lender’s requirements.

If you use a limited guarantee, then you are reducing the guarantor’s exposure to your mortgage although you may still be up for interest and charges by the bank in excess of the limit of the loan.

There has been a significant increase in people coming forward needing assistance over the past 12 months. Lt Cameron Lovering of the Parkes and Forbes Salvation Army said at the launch of the annual Red Shield Appeal last week, that they saw the effects of the drought on a daily basis. He said 80 percent of funds raised this year would go straight back into the local community.

The target this year is to raise $9,000. Volunteers are needed to help out at two static points in Forbes during the week starting 20th May, and volunteers to help the doorknock campaign on 25th and 26th May.

Cameron said another way to support was to donate items to the Family Store. “The store is our primary source of income. The more donations we get, the more money we can raise.”

At the launch community members, who had been offered assistance, delivered testimonials of what it had meant to them. Bill Atkins and Nyomi Pratt encouraged everyone to support “the wonderful cause”.

Volunteer supervisor Robyn Hohnberg said it was such a good feeling to give back to the community.

Since becoming the Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack has represented local communities with a strong voice in Canberra and is proud of all that has been achieved.

“Some of the projects I have delivered in the Forbes Shire Council area include $1 million in Drought Communities Programme funding, $870,000 to reinvigorate the Forbes Central Business District and $3,550 for the Forbes Cancer Patients Assistance Society,” said Michael.

Further projects delivered by Michael include $6,500 for the Forbes Men’s Shed, $18,000 for the permanent shelter at the Bedgerabong Recreation Ground, $210,000 to relocate the Aussie Biscuits factory and $1.51 million to expand the Central West Livestock Exchange.

In addition to the before mentioned Michael is also responsible for a further $1,200 to install a replica honour board at Garema Public Hall, $13,600 for CCTV at the Wiradjuri Dreaming Centre and $2.1 million for the Forbes Northern Heavy Vehicle Bypass.
