Perfect Shot For Grayson

January 31, 2020 by Maggi Barnard

Hamish Steele-Park with his Hole-in-One ball on the 9th, scored during his Summer Sixes round.

Peter Grayson scored the perfect shot during the Individual Stableford competition, sponsored by Forbes Bus Lines, on Saturday 25th January. His ace was on the 9th hole, and only the second in his golfing life, but the first on home soil. He was congratulated by 70 players on the field.

The Division 1 winner was Todd Callaghan, who was in hot form and scored 45 points from a scratch score of 69. His 34-35 split included birdies on the back-to-back 6th and 7th holes.

Runner-up in Division 1 was Rob Webb with 44 points. He played early, enjoying cooler conditions, doing especially well on the back 9 with 24 points.

The Division 2 also scored well, with Matt Duff winning on 42 points, which included a wipe on the 7th hole.

The runner-up on 41 points was Matt Roylance who was consistent in scoring 2’s and 3’s but no wipes or 4 pointers.

The ball sweep went to 38 points: 45 – T Callaghan; 44 – R Webb; 42 – D McAuliffe, M Duff; 41 – M Roylance; 40 – T Griffiths, J Zannes, A Grierson, B Slack-Smith, C Barrett; 39 – M Watts, A Currey, B Thomas, I Bown; 38 – D Rhodes, M Cahill, A Brownlow, T Cogswell, J Cutler. The NTP’s went to: 9th – P Grayson; 18th – I Bown.

Another player in good form was Andrew Grierson. He was 2-over after the front-9 and remained so until he stumbled at the end with double-bogey, bogey, to finish 5-over for the round. What a cruel game it is.

Saturday, 1 February is the Monthly Medal, sponsored by the ‘Roadies Group’ of club members. Sunday, 2 February is a Stableford Medley, and the first round of the CWDGA Pennants.

Alf Davies Top Scores

January 24, 2020 by Maggi Barnard

In the Annual ‘Lefties vs Righties’ Cup, an Individual Stableford 18-hole Stroke event played last Saturday by 73 players, Alf Davies came out on top with a score of 44 points. His scratch score was an even par 72 and earned him top honours in Division 2.

Runner-up in Division 2 was Phil Duke with 40 points, but this was on count back from Doug Churchill. Division 1 was won by Garry Collits with 38 points, ahead of Les Little on 37 points.

The visitors seemed to enjoy themselves, with Will Clayton (Bowral) scoring 36 points and Matt Donohoe (Royal Sydney) dropping a few good putts in.

The ‘Righties vs Lefties’ Cup was won by the Righties. Despite an inspired performance by Leftie Alf Davies, the Righties were consistent overall. Scoring by weighted average top-6, equal numbers had the Righties as winners.

Looking back over the results for events played across the festive season we see some familiar names:

The 18-hole stroke event on 11th January had a strong field despite the hot conditions. For Division 1, Jacob Bernadi (70 nett) won on count back from Daryl McAuliffe, while in Division 2 Albie Callaghan (67) won ahead of Al Rees (70). The ball sweep went to 35 points on c/b.

The 2P-2Club Australian Championship scheduled for 25th January has been postponed until 15th February. Golf on this weekend, Saturday 25th January will be an 18-Hole Stableford, with Stableford Medley’s on Sunday and Monday, the Australia Day Holiday.

Golf Guide For The Festive Season

December 20, 2019 by Maggi Barnard

The first part of the Summer Sixes competition finished last week. At this stage the Pool A leaders are Platypi Players despite suffering their first loss in week 7. In Pool B, it has been quite tight all the way, but Grant Howell Auto Electrics have snared top spot with a consistent team performance.

Planning is underway for an event, previously known as the ‘Ashes Cup’, to be played on January 26, the Australia Day weekend. It will likely be a team event.

A Reminder to enter for the CWDGA Pennants 2020. Put your name on the sheet in the Pro Shop or contact the Club Captain. Saturday, 21st December has a Stableford event, sponsored by Shirley Redfern, with Saturday, 28th December a Stroke event sponsored by Steele Tech.

Across the festive season break Stableford Medleys will be played on Sunday, 22nd and Sunday, 29th December, with an additional comp on Thursday, 26th December.

The staff at the Pro Shop wish all players, be they club, social or casual, a very merry Christmas, a safe New Year, and good luck throughout 2020.

with the match being decided on the 18th. Todd Callaghan needed a win to send the match to the 19th, but Steve Grallelis managed a square and won the match 1-up.

Head Pro Ben has been running a raffle at Forbes and Parkes Pro Shops, with the prize being a special edition Titleist Golf bag (only 415 made). A video of the draw is available on Facebook pages. The lucky recipient was Steve Grallelis.

Barnes And Currey Go Low

December 6, 2019 by Maggi Barnard

The Saturday Men’s competition, an Individual Stroke event sponsored by Knights Fabrications, was rocked by two tremendously low scores compiled by the winners of each Division. The field of 70 players did well across the board, but they could not match Peter Barnes or Adam Currey.

The Sunday Stableford Medley had most players out early. The winner was Josh Coulthurst with 42 points, ahead of Bruce Carpenter on 40 points. The ball sweep went to 36 points, giving Jacob Bernardi a ball.

Congratulations to Jenny Fletcher and Ash Tucker who won a Regional Final of the Golf NSW KENO 2-P Ambrose. Their victory, a 1⁄4 shot win, sends them to Bonville for the State Final, being played on December 9-10.

Some good events to start the celebrations for Christmas are coming up. The Tuesday Golfers have their Christmas Party on 10th December after the usual 12-hole run, at which all are welcome.

The Forbes Vets golfers have their Christmas Bash on Thursday, 12th December, with usual start at 9:30am. And on 19th December there is the Mid-Week Christmas Hamper Day, sponsored by Bernardi’s Marketplace. Be prepared for a 9:30am shotgun start.

We especially need players in the Division 4 Handicap bracket (above GA 17.5). Please let the Club Captain know.

Looking ahead we have an 18 Hole Stroke, sponsored by Knights Fabrications on Saturday, 30th November, with a Stableford Medley on Sunday, 1st December. Then the following weekend we have the Monthly Medal, on 7th December and on Sunday, 8th December we have the Stableford Medley.

Monthly Medal In The Wind

November 8, 2019 by Maggi Barnard

On Saturday the November Monthly Medal, sponsored by Jelbart’s Tyrepower, was played in an ever-present wind, which sometimes became too much for some of the 55 players to handle. But the Medal winners were all seemingly unaffected.

The A-Grade went to Todd Callaghan (71 nett) ahead of a confident Dave Mylecharane (72 nett), looking for a second medal. The B-Grade required a count back to separate Bob Borger (70 nett) as the winner from Ash Tucker (70 nett). In the C-Grade it was once again a win to gentlemanly Rod Besgrove (73 nett) over a luck- less Bruce Squires (74 nett).

The ball sweep went to 75 nett on count back, going to: 70 – R Borger, A Tucker; 71 – T Callaghan; 72 – D Mylecharane, L O’Connor; 73- P Pymont, R Besgrove, T West; 74 – B Squires, M Spice, A Currey, B Everest, B Chandler; 75 – J Coulthurst.

The NTP’s went to: 9th – B Everest; 18th – D Rhodes, with Dave converting his for ‘2’. Over the weekend the Lachlan Valley (LV) team contested the NSW Country Championships in Bathurst and led after day 1 with good scores by Steve Betland, John Betland and Shane Sallaway.

On Day 2 the rain held off until later in the day but the wind was still a problem. The LV team slipped to 5th place. The Illawarra team surged to the top, from 5th on Day 1, finishing ahead of Central West by 3 shots.

The Forbes Nissan Classic, sponsored by Frank Spice Motors, is this weekend, 9/10 November, with the 4BBB on Saturday and Individual Stroke on Sunday. The tee time sheets are in the Pro Shop. There are some gaps there so you may still get a spot to play.
