An impressive 126 players supported a fundraising drive for Forbes Can Assist playing a 4-Person Ambrose Medley last Saturday.The players included a big contingent of travellers from Sydney, Wollongong, across the border and neighbouring towns. Thanks to the generosity of businesses and individuals there were many prizes to be won.

With a record score the scratch winning team of Peter Dawson, John Betland, Nicole Nicole Death and Alison Hearne posted a 61.This bettered the previous best score of63 recorded in 2014, which was achieved insunnier conditions.

The Handicap Winners were: Lee Grierson, Caleb Hanrahan, Luke Simmons and Sam Sykes with 52 ¾ nett. Handicap runner-up: 56 ¼ G & B Travier, P & F Friedel; third: 58 ¼ – Harry Callaghan, Jack Hartwig, Tom Toohey, Jordan Brett; fourth: 58 ½ – Glenn Beasley, Wayne Holz, David Woods, Steven Walker; fifth: 58 7/8 – Peter Tisdell, Robert Webb, David Rhodes, John Zannes.

This weekend starts a run of championship events with the men’s and women’s 4BBB Stroke and Handicap Championships tomorrow. On 25th June the women play their Foursomes Championships over 27 holes, while the men play their Foursomes Champs on Saturday and Sunday over 36 holes. Saturday’s Individual Stableford was contested by 53 players with the ‘Wilf Hodges Memorial Trophy’ going to Jesse Hamilton with 45 points. 

Div-1 was won by Harry Callaghan with 40 points and runner-up was Brett Thomas with 38 points. 

The Div-2 results were dominated by the performance of Jesse Hamilton with his 45 points. Runner-up Bruce Chandler had 39 points. 

The ball sweep went to 34 points on count back. There were 14 successes there so check in the Pro Shop to see if you were successful. 

The NTP’s went to: 9th – Brett Thomas; 18th – Brett Thomas. The 3rd hole superpin went to Bede Tooth who put his ball to 2.50m. 

John Betland won the Condo Open with a 67 and also took the ‘Trilogy’ Scratch prize. Steve Betland was runner-up in the Open Scratch with a 69.

The men’s Stroke golf event on Saturday had a small field of 53 and was won by David Earl with 70 nett in division 1, runner-up Alf Davies 71 nett. Division 2 was won by newcomer Harry Quirk nett 64, runner-up Jake LeBrocque 70 nett. 

The NTP’s: 9th – Warwick Judge; 18th – Brian Everest; 3rd Hole Superpin Alf Davies who put his ball to 2.98m.

Sunday’s Stableford Medley was won by Sharon Grierson with 33 points, runner-up Henry Nash 32 points. There was no ball sweep, and also no NTP’s recorded. 

This weekend we have an 18-hole Stableford, sponsored by the Hodges family, with the ‘Wilf Hodges Memorial Trophy’ up for grabs. Sunday has a Stableford Medley, as well as the final leg of the ‘Trilogy of Golf’ played at the Condobolin Open.

The annual Men’s Open events saw 81 players in the 4BBB Stableford on Saturday, while the main 18-hole stroke open on Sunday had a good field of 116 players.

The Sunday Open produced very competitive scores despite the wet conditions. The A-Grade Scratch was won by Kurt Cusack (Wellington) with 72, while the A-Grade Handicap was won by Mike Wood Jnr (Dubbo) with 70 nett. 

The B-Grade winners were: scratch – Anthony Alley (86) and handicap – Mike Gaffney (Griffith) with 74 nett on count back.

The C-grade winners were: scratch – Keith McCullock (Riverside) on 100 and handicap – Josh Wood (Dubbo) with 77nett on count back.

The veterans handicap winner was Peter Bristol (Parkes) with 71 nett, the junior handicap winner was Lachlan Alley (Forbes) on 85 nett, and the visitor winner was Stuart Hayes (Murrumbidgee) with 73 nett on count back. The ball sweep went to 77 nett.

Players braved wet conditions from above and underfoot on Saturday for the 4BBB Stableford. The scratch winners were J Betland & P Dawson (Forbes) with 40 pts, on count back from runners-up S Betland & J Bernardi (Forbes). The handicap winners were Jock Coupland & Tom Stuckey (Condo) with 46 pts. The handicap runners-up were Jack Dobell and Dave Tildsley (Forbes) on 45 pts. 

The ball sweep went to 40 pts. The NTPs went to: 9th – Brett Thomas; 18th – Dave Mylecharane. The 3rd hole SuperPin went to Nicole Death.

This weekend we have an 18-hole stroke, sponsored by B&C Autos, with the West Wyalong Open on Sunday, and a Stableford Medley at home.

Saturday May Monthly Medal stroke event at the Forbes Golf Club was contested by a reduced field of 53 players. 

The A-Grade was won by Wade Ritchie with 72 nett, but the medal was awarded to runner-up Alf Davies on 74 nett. 

The B-Grade win and medal went to Paul Kay (76 nett), who finished one shot ahead of runner-up Rob Webb (77 nett). In the C-Grade, Al Rees took all the honours with a 77 nett, also one ahead of runner-up Sam Redfern on 78 nett. 

Last Friday the Forbes Pro-Am was played with 94 players, including 27 pros and amateurs from around the state. 

The winning pro was Dylan Thompson from Dubbo with a 67 scratch. The amateurs played a stableford, with the winners being: Ladies – Ev Uphill 29 points; Men Div 1 – D Kennedy 40 pts; Men Div 2 – Harry Quirk 36 pts.

Saturday was a busy day with the Ladies Open 4BBB played and the Men’s competition Individual Stroke event. Once again, the weather intervened with a forecast of heavy rain turning many players away, but the afternoon players had a sunny game. 

In the Men’s competition, sponsored by Country Mile Motor Inn, had 31 starters. Div-1 was won by Neil McMillan with 71 nett. He had a good margin back to runner-up Anthony Alley with his 73 nett. 

The Men’s Div-2 was won by Lachlan Alley with 68 nett, using his handicap well. Runner-up was Matt Duff with a powerful 71 nett. 

The NTP’s went to: 9th – Andrew Dukes; 18th – Lachlan Alley. The 3rd Hole Super Pin went to Josh Coulthurst with a shot to 2.65 metres. 

The Ball Sweep went to 76 nett on count back. 

Nominations are still open for the Men’s Open on 14th and 15th May. This weekend the Men’s comp is the May Monthly Medal, sponsored by Adept Plumbing.

The 80 players contesting the Individual Stableford Medley on Saturday were enjoying the beautiful autumn conditions as they vied for the Kristie Carpenter Perpetual Trophy.

Harry Callaghan won the Men’s Division 1 with 40 points. He had tough competition from Adam Currey who finished strongly to score 39 points.

Lachlan Alley’s 41 points was enough to make him the winner of the Men’s Division 2. He also had close competition with Clayton Alley on 40 points.

The Women’s Division was won by Verna Lane. She scored 38 points but needed a count back to push Jenny Fletcher into runner-up, also on 38 points.

The NTP’s went to: 9th – men: H Callaghan, women: R Lyell; 18th – men: R Bown, women R Carroll. The 3rd hole super pin went to Steve Betland with a shot to 4.6 metres, showing how difficult it was to find the green.

The Ball Sweep went to 33 points on count back – check in the Pro Shop to see if you managed that. Visitors welcomed to the course were Stuart Hayes (Murrumbidgee), Jack Downes (Moree), Richard Webster (Massey Park), Ray Sanderson (St Georges Basin) and Reg Bown (Perth, WA).

The Sunday Stableford Medley was dominated by visitors and was won by Stuart Hayes on 38 pts. Stephen Grant (Murrumbidgee) was runner-up on 32 pts on count back. There was no ball sweep. There were no NTPs as no one in the comp hit the greens.

This week has been full of the Forbes Vets ‘Week of Golf, with over 100 players participating.

Tomorrow’s men’s competition is an 18- hole stroke, while the women play a 4BBB competition as part of their open weekend. Sunday is the Ladies Open, with the course closed until the afternoon.

The rain did not dampen the spirits of 85 competitors playing in Saturday’s 4BBB Ambrose Medley for the Sanderson Memorial Trophy.

The winners were Shane Sallaway, Clint Hurford, Jacob Bernardi and Harry Quirk who combined exceptionally to score 55 ¼ nett. Their scratch score was 11-under par, and had to contend with one of the lowest handicaps.

Runners-up were Jarod Hall, Harry Nash, Henry Collins and Geoff Stewart who were very close behind on 55 7/8. They had a better handicap but the putting was a problem, resulting in a scratch score of ‘only’ 6-under.

The NTP’s went to: 9th – men: Bill Barry, women: Kate Steele-Park; 18th – men: Ross Williams, women: Nicole Death. The 3rd Hole Super Pin went to Steve Betland, with a shot to 2.5m.

There was no ball sweep, but longest drives were held on the 7th and 15th holes: 7th – men: Harry Callaghan, women: Kerry Stirling; 15th – men: Jarod Hall, women: Nicole Death.

Four teams were vying for the major prize of the grand final of the Forbes GC Summer Sixes competition for 2021-22 on Sunday.

The final scores saw the teams separated by less than 2 strokes and required a count back. The win went to ‘Golfie’ team (Ethel Coombs, Jill Cripps, Andrew Grierson, Sharon Grierson, Wendy Simmons and Pat Lenehan), who pushed ‘Flip Floppers’ team into runner-up position. The plate winners were ‘Corn Stars’ with ‘Part Time Putters’ as runners-up. The ‘Golfie’ team will join Head Pro Adam Demidjuk on a golf trip to the Hunter Valley.

At the presentation dinner, club president Tony Cogswell thanked the sponsors – Bernardi Group, Flannery’s Pharmacy, BWR and Golf Harvest – for their support. He also thanked all the participants for making this another successful year, despite the interruptions by the flood event.

The Saturday Men’s golf competition was the April Monthly Medal, a Stroke event sponsored by P Grayson, S French, D Earl and M Haley, and was contested by 71 players.

The A-Grade medal was won by Stuart French on count back from David Mylecharane when both finished on 67 nett. Stuart played exceptionally well, turning at 3-over. The B-Grade medal went to Chris Moore (69 nett). Runner-up was Barry Parker (70 nett). In the C-Grade, Frank Hanns (71 nett) won on count back from runner-up Kyle Sharpe.

The ball sweep went to 73 nett, on count back – check in the Pro Shop to see if you earned one. The NTP’s went to: 9th – Peter Grayson, 18th – Bruce Chandler. The 3rd Hole Super Pin went to Harry Callaghan, with a lucky shot.

This weekend is the Sanderson Memorial Day, a 4-person Ambrose Medley event and Sunday the Stableford Medley.

A smaller field of 54 players took part in the men’s Individual Par on Saturday with Paul Pymont winning with a +4 total in Division 1.

Runner-up was Greg Webb with +3 in the Forbes Tuesday Golfers sponsored event. The Division 2 winner was Stephen Edwards (Bogan Gate) with +2, which he got on count back. The unfortunate runner-up was Jonathan Cutler.

The NTP’s went to: 9th – Paul Kay; 18th – Alf Davies. The 3rd hole Super Pin went to Glendon Hooper with a shot to 2.54 metres.

Sunday’s Stableford Medley did not attract enough players, while Friday saw a good field participating in the annual Rugby President’s Golf Day. Over 64 players competed in the 4-Person Ambrose event. Fun was the primary purpose, but there was some serious play recorded.

The Summer Sixes have reached the grand finals stage. The plate finalists will play their games through the week, and the main draw finalists will compete in a shoot-out on Sunday.
