Lions Park RV dump point will be moved to Wheogo Park.

Lions Park RV Dump Point Relocation: With regional roads currently full of travellers, RV Dump Points are becoming the latest hot spots to locate. RV Dump Points are sites especially designed for Recreational Vehicles to dispose of their waste, including grey and black water, and sewage in the most environmentally friendly method of emptying waste from a caravan. Forbes has multiple sites available including Caravan Parks within the Shire, Forbes Showground and currently on the edge of Lions Park. The Lions Park dump point is going to be relocated to Wheogo Park in the coming weeks and Forbes Shire Council is advising the community that roadworks will be in place. Work on moving the site will commence Monday, 19 October 2020 and Junction Street will be closed for two days.

Central West Mayors Back Tresillian Residential Service: The Mayors of the Central NSW Joint Organisation are throwing their support behind the campaign lead by the Hon Steph Cooke, Member for Cootamundra for the Tresillian Residential Service at the Cowra Hospital, as part of the new upgrade to Cowra Hospital.

Tresillian is a long-standing organisation for young families and young children with expert parenting advice. They also have helped develop a Sleepwell Baby app for parent concerns such as baby sleep and settling, development, feeding and nutrition. Tresillian began with the Spanish Flu pandemic that reached Sydney early 1919. With 100 years of invaluable service for young families across New South Wales, Tresillian has played an important and unique role in the history of New South Wales. Hopefully, struggling parents and carers will soon have much easier access to this invaluable resource soon.

Pool Closures: This swim season, due to COVID-19 restrictions, new rules have been put into place to ensure all of the community has access to the Forbes Olympic Pool. So that the learn to swim program and squad training can go ahead, the pool will be closed to the public from 3.30pm-4.30pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. While this may be frustrating from some members of the public, it is important to remember that these rules are in place for the health and safety of the entire community. As a community resource, it is critical that all have access to this wonderful facility.

The Forbes Olympic Pool will be inaccessible to the general public during squad training.

Aged Care A Top Priority For Mayor Miller: Forbes Shire Council Mayor, Phyllis Miller OAM recently met with Catholic Healthcare to discuss the recent performance report by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission regarding Jemalong Residential Village. The performance report assessment outlined multiple areas in which the facility can improve to ensure the Quality Standards are complied with. “The problems found at the facility are not insurmountable,” said Phyllis. “Council will work with Catholic Healthcare, as a team, to gain the accreditation needed to provide quality healthcare for our elderly residents in Forbes. With COVID-19 highlighting numerous and alarming flaws within the aged care system, this is an issue on the forefront of many minds.” Performance reports are carried out to discover weaknesses and evaluate their urgency, so any unfavourable findings carry the promise of improvement. Phyllis has invited the community to contact either herself or Steve Loane at Forbes Shire Council if they have any concerns regarding loved ones in the facility.

Steve Karaitiana and Jeff Nicholson showed Phil Donato where improvements need to be made on the BMX track. (Image: Phil Donato Facebook)

Youth In Mind: Phil Donato visited Forbes on Wednesday and met with Forbes Shire Councillors Steve Karaitiana and Jeff Nicholson to discuss the rejuvenation of the Forbes BMX track. With COVID-19 ensuring that most residents stay put in Forbes this year, Council has led the way in gaining the funding to ensure the youth of Forbes have adequate facilities to keep them occupied and active. Parks and infrastructure upgrades, the skatepark facelift, a ninja park, and upgrades to sporting facilities have all been announced this year and are continuing to be rolled out for the community to enjoy.

The decades old BMX track has long been neglected and Steve and Jeff are pushing for its rejuvenation in order to encourage a new generation of Forbes youth to get in on the sport, with the facilities providing an opportunity for them to stay active and occupied in a healthy way without the need to leave town.

COVID-19 Testing In Forbes: The Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) drive-through COVID-19 testing visited Forbes, with the mobile service on Thursday this week. While there are still no known cases of COVID-19 in Forbes it is still imperative that people get tested so that the Government has a clearer idea of statistics around the pandemic which will eventually allow for general restrictions around movement to be decreased.

Testing services are free of charge, and referrals and appointments are not required to attend the Harold Street testing service. Testing is fast, easy and results are normally delivered within 48 hours.

Symptoms of the illness include: fever, a sore or ‘scratchy’ throat, a cough, runny nose, shortness of breath, tiredness and muscle aches.

The message is simple; if you have any symptoms, even mild ones, arrange to be tested. If you have any questions or concerns you can ring the National Coronavirus Hotline on 1800 020 080 or healthdirect on 1800 022 222.

Weeds-a-plenty: In the coming weeks the Forbes Shire Council’s Urban Services crew will be out in Forbes parks and sports grounds spraying for weeds that have flourished with the recent rainfall. While the crew are following legislated policy and procedure for the health and safety of all, residents and visitors to Forbes are being advised to give the crew a wide berth.

Rural Aid are calling on photographers to submit work for their Bush Photo Competition.

Calling On Photographers: Rural Aid is calling all photographers for their inaugural Bush Photo Competition. The ‘life on the land or in the bush’ competition is open until 3 September 2020. If you are a photographer or a budding photographer and you have a love for rural Australia, then this is the competition for you. Rural Aid are looking for images, ground level or aerial, of our Aussie farmers and their families, and a depiction of what their life is like on the land or in the bush. There are also great prizes to be won.

To enter, participants can submit their entries from 10 August to 3 September 2020 by posting high-resolution images on Instagram with the hashtags #RAPhotoContest and #SpiritoftheBush and tagging @ruralaid in the image. Alternatively, submissions can be emailed to images@ruralaid.org.au. The photos will then be added to stories and a highlight reel on the Rural Aid Instagram page.

Lachlan Water Restrictions Lifted: The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment have announced the lifting of temporary water restrictions for general security account water in the Lachlan regulated river water source.

Recent rainfall has provided sufficient inflows to both Wyangala Dam and Lake Brewster which have increased by a combined 115 gigalitres (GL) in July and are still rising.

Based on the inflows so far, there is now enough water to meet critical human and high priority needs. Under these circumstances, water security has been restored so the temporary water restriction applied in the public interest is no longer required and has been repealed. The lifting of the temporary water restriction also means that normal water sharing plan and accounting rules now apply.

Road Closures: As predicted, the rain that fell over the weekend has resulted in roads in and around the Forbes Shire being closed to traffic. Water over the road and damage to roads means Littles Road and Forest Road are open to local traffic only. Pinnacle Road is closed to all traffic with no detour in place. Seymore Armitage Road is also closed. All unsealed roads in the Forbes Shire are closed to vehicles over 4.5tonne, excepting school buses, Council road plant and emergency vehicles. Concessions are available upon request by contacting Council’s Engineering Department on 6850 2300 and choosing option two. More information can be found online: https://www.forbes.nsw.gov.au/residents/emergency-information/road-closures.

Road closures in and around Forbes continue after more rain last weekend has damaged and left some roads underwater.
