Meet And Greet Lachlan Valley Community Radio

September 13, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Lachlan Valley Community Radio is having an open day on Sunday, 23rd September at 11am at their studios on Parkes Road, Forbes. The entire community is invited to come along and show support for ‘your local station’.

This is the perfect opportunity to have a look at the station’s studios, say “hello” to the announcers and put a face to the voice.

There will be a sausage sizzle, as well as plenty of finger food, cakes, slices, tea and coffee.

Please RSVP by Thursday, 20th September to 0428 662 549 or 0498 132 758. Alternatively send an email to: a97.9fm@outlook.com.

The station was established in 1992 for the purpose of presenting alternative music and news programs to those presented by the ABC and other commercial radio stations.

The studio is based in Forbes and the listening area is predominately the Forbes and Parkes Shire area, including all other surrounding areas.

The station is completely run by volunteer staff, with the exception of one part-time office lady. There are around 28 volunteers on the announcing staff who do regular time slots each week. The announcers provide 15 hours of live programs each day, all voluntary. The total volunteer force is around 35 members.

Keeping the station on air is very costly. There are many licenses and permits required to comply with all government regulations, including other running costs.

The station’s main source of income comes from sponsors who advertise on the station. The annual member’s contribution also helps keep them afloat. Why not become a member? Membership is very cheap at only $10 per year or $15 per couple.

They are also always looking for sponsors support. Your advertising has the potential to reach a listening audience of around 30,000 people at a very reasonable cost.

Please contact the station if you would like more information.

The Trundle branch of the Royal Far West Children’s Health Scheme held an Old Time/New Vogue dance on Sunday, 2nd September at the Memorial Hall in Trundle.

Dancers from Forbes, Nyngan, Dubbo and Eumungerie enjoyed a wonderful social afternoon, dancing to the live music played and sung by Phil Redenbach.

A cheque for $250 was presented by Lorraine Lowe, on behalf of the Forbes Old Time/New Vogue Dancing Group, to Grace Hosking, Treasurer of Royal Far West Children’s Health Scheme Trundle branch and coordinator of the “Come and See” Programme.

This money will go towards implementing the “Come and See” Programme at both Trundle schools. The programme provides weekly literacy and numeracy tuition on a one-on-one basis.

The Forbes dancing group welcomes newcomers to join them. The dancers meet weekly on a Wednesday night at the Forbes Uniting Church hall for dancing and social interaction.

How To Spoil Dad This Fathers Day

August 23, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Not sure what to do for dad on Father’s Day but want to do something special?

Here are a few ways to spoil dad and make it a Father’s Day he will remember.

• Make him breakfast in bed: Everyone waits for the day they wake up with breakfast served for them in bed. Make dad’s wishes come true… let him sleep in, serve him breakfast in bed and let him relax.

• Go out as a family: Dads enjoy a timeout but most will agree that they much rather spend the day with their family.

Allow dad to pick where he wants to go and make it a family day out.

• Allow him to unwind: Dads also have a lot going on, so it’s only fair to give dad a break and give him a day off. For some, that may mean throwing a football with the kids or playing basketball. For others it may be fishing or reading a book.

Whatever he wants to do, just make sure he gets uninterrupted time to do it.

• Get something special for him: If you want to give your dad something really personal this Father’s Day, then why not visit News On Rankin located at 70 Rankin Street. They have a great selection of gift ideas and you’ll be sure to find the perfect way to show him just how much you love him.

Or give dad the ultimate gift of tools and gadgets available from Power Tools Plus. They stock an extensive range of power tools, hand tools, industrial supplies and so much more! You are guaranteed to find something to make his day a memorable one. Phone them on 02 6852 3466.

Currajong Charity Golf Day

August 23, 2018 by Maggi Barnard

Mark down Sunday, 4th November in your calendars for the inaugural Currajong Disability Services Charity Golf Day at the Forbes Golf Club. The 10am shotgun start, three-man ambrose event is open to non-golfers through to members with an 18 hole or 9 hole to compete in.

Forbes Golf Pro, Simon Houston feels that it is a great addition to the local golfing calendar. “We are thrilled to be partnering up with Currajong, as they expand throughout the region and we are excited to be able to hold this event. It should be a tremendous day with an array of prizes on offer,” said Simon.

For Currajong Disability Services Communications, Marketing and New Business Development Manager, Dane Millerd, the day is important for Currajong, who along with other NDIS service providers have had to look at a range of ways to fundraise and generate revenue.

“A percentage of the fees, plus raffle and auction item proceeds from the day will go to Currajong Disability Services,” said Dane.

“We will also have a barbeque on the day and call upon members of the Forbes community impacted by disability to come down and participate.

“Whether you play or not or even want to volunteer or sponsor or donate, we will happily welcome you with open arms,” he said.

“Interested players, sponsors or volunteers can leave their details with the pro shop or contact Currajong Disability Services.”

Currajong Disability Services can be reached on 02 6863 4713 or dane.millerd@currajong.org.au.

“Approximately 20 percent of the population is affected by disability in some way,” said Dane.

“We encourage everyone to participate because you never know when you or a loved one may need an NDIS service provider like Currajong Disability Services.”
