Question of the Week?

March 30, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Why shouldn’t we buy water in disposable bottles?

Ryan Withers: Once you’ve drunk the water the disposable bottle becomes part of landfill. Garbage dumps take up land that belongs to our
native animals. My favourite native animals are wombats and I want to make sure they stay safe.

Sarah Jane Sullivan: Disposable water bottles create more rubbish. Oh, and it really annoys me when I see rubbish on the road that people have tossed away. Why don’t they care more about the environment?

Brodie Morley: By using disposable bottles, we are creating more rubbish. That is why I like the bottle Forbes Shire Council gave me. I can use this bottle again and again.

Harmony Day on 21st March is a great opportunity to celebrate Australia’s diverse culture and respect for each other. How do you show respect?

Anne Hodges:
I truly care about people, all peo- ple. I like to make sure that I give good things to everyone, things that they can hold onto.

Kathleen Broderick: I respect people’s confiden- tiality and their need for personal space. When I can, I send love and light to people in need.

Lee Hodge:
I respect others by allowing them
to tell their story and listening to them. I also ac- knowledge and address what makes them unique.

What do you like about House of Tribes the most?

Abi Pycroft: I could be seen to be biased as Jake is my boyfriend! That said I just love the music. I especially love their new album as it has an electric funk vibe.

Shemali Rimene: We are visiting from Cowra. I really love the energy that the House of Tribes create as it is fun, positive, and happy.

Sisters – Ashley and Tammi Hall: We both love Sing. It is our favorite House of Tribes song. We both love dancing as the music they play has great rhythm. “It makes me happy,” said Tammi.

What do you do to remain fit and healthy?

Kerry Acheson: I eat lots of vegetables and have plenty of exercise. In addition, I have six beautiful grandchildren (and another on the way) who keep me very active.

Best friends Colleen Dean and Ann Mackay:We walk three to five kilometres every day, Mon- day to Friday. We also play lawn bowls every week and enjoy eating lots of lovely local fruit, especially the tomatoes at the moment.

Husband and wife Daniel and Patricia Maxwell: We walk around our lovely lake here in Forbes every morning and make sure we don’t eat junk food. We also believe strongly in keeping our minds healthy by painting (Daniel) and by singing (Patricia).

What is your favourite animal and why?

Leo Curran: The Giraffe. I can’t really say why they are my favourite except for the reason that they are graceful and streamlined and so well adapted to their environment with their long necks.

Rayleen Paradowski: Dogs are my favourite. They are so faithful. I have two pug dogs, Ruby and Pippa. I am certain they are half human.

Cathy Murda: Dogs, especially cocker spaniels as they are so cute. Our beautiful cocker spaniel Georgina was with us for ten years and can never be replaced.

If you could speak another language what would it be and why?

Allan Lewington: I would love to be able to speak Tagalog so I could speak with my friends from the Philippines. Did you know that there are over 17 million speakers of Tagalog, and its vocabulary has been influenced by Spanish and English?

Ray Judge:
Gaelic! I would like to be able to speak Gaelic so I can take a trip to Ireland to practice.

Denise Barlow: Just last week we had good friends whose native tongue is Swiss German stay with us on our farm, 16 km from Forbes. We all had a wonderful time, but it would’ve been lovely to speak their language too.

What does becoming an Australian citizen mean to you?

February 16, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Emma Gamble: Everything really! I am now the same nationality as my husband, Martin, and our children, James and Olivia. I consider Australia more in line with my ideals than England.

Murphy George:
This is such a proud moment. I feel very happy to have become an Australian.

Sydney and Stephanie Sanu

Jonty Rattenbury:
Mmmm, not sure but I do like playing with my friends. I know, I would like to learn to write then I can write my Mum a letter.

Tyler Tomkinson
: I would like to learn more letters so I can write a story. I am not sure what the story will be yet but it will be a good one.

Rachel Billsborough:
We are already learning some stuff, like sounds. When I know all the sounds I will be able to read. I am looking forward to reading by myself as we already read lots of books together at home.

What does Australia Day mean to you?

January 26, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Marlene Huf: I am proud to be Australian and think we live in the best country in the world. Aus- tralia Day is a time to reflect and appreciate what we have.

Wayne Richards: That is a hard question. It is the day we became a nation and everyone has their own opinion as to whether that was for better or worse. I am looking forward to heading to the celebrations at Frog’s Hollow for the first time this Australia Day.
