QUESTION of the week

August 31, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

What is the most beautiful place you have ever been to?

Chris Collier: We try to do a lot of travelling and

have just been to Norway. I’d have to say it would

be Geiranger in Norway.

Ella Bennetts: I went to Phan Thiet in Vietnam and that was really nice.

Lauren Mcintyre: Cinque Terre in Italy is really beautiful!

What would you like to see, or see more of, in the Forbes Phoenix?

Martin Cahill: Personal histories and stories of the older generations of locals.

Eliza Acret – From Hair with Style: More fashion, hair and beauty articles.

Julie Dawes: More Indigenous news stories within the Phoenix.

What is your number one tip for healthy teeth?

Caitlin Herbert – Oral Health Therapist: Good home care, and a visit to the dentist every six months.

Dr Danny Demosthenous – Dentist: Avoid drinks that bubble, eat more cheese, and drink tap water.

Tabitha Blake – Senior Dental Assistant: Clean your teeth morning and night. Especially at night!

What’s your favourite thing about school?

Charlie Gallagher: I like that you get to see your friends. My favourite subject is maths, and I like adding.

Georgia Gallagher: I love to do art – drawing and painting. And I like seeing my friends.

Who is your favourite superhero and why?

Jess Edgerton: Captain America, because why not (and the actor, Chris Evans)!

Lisa Stains: Wonder Woman, because she’s a strong, independent woman in a great outfit!

Beth King: Wonder Woman, because she’s a good female role model, and she looks great (I’ve seen the movie twice)!

Question of the Week

What could we do in Forbes to boost tourism?

Ned Hamilton: The lake is such a great attrac- tion. It would be good to offer more activities down there, canoeing, weekend coffee stalls, and music.

Buffy Phillips: It would be great to expand the local farmers’ market. We live in Bathurst and will travel anywhere for a good market on weekends.

Leanne Kennedy: Support our local community and farmers to offer packages of local experiences, such as droving, camp cooking, and hay-making as part of farm stays; or running regular cultural heritage experiences along the Lachlan River.

Question of the Week

July 6, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

This year’s NAIDOC theme is Our Languages Matter. How can we help preserve Indigenous languages in Australia?

Di Baker: It would be great to see explanations of place names and street names in the local Aboriginal language.

Janet Callaghan: I’d like to see Aboriginal languages offered as subjects at school.

Melissa Lennane: Maybe on local radio stations announcers could say good morning and good afternoon in the local Aboriginal language as well as English?

It’s our 100th issue! What do you like about the Forbes Phoenix?

Rachael and Laurie Norris, with pup, Ernie
: It’s available everywhere, at no cost, and it has interesting stories about local people and activities.

Karyn Glennan: It’s part of the community, and it’s about the community and our people. I like being able to read the articles on Facebook, and I love the What’s On pages.

Wendy Burns: I really enjoy the Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down section, and I like that it’s a free paper.

Question of the Week

What are your best tips for recycling?

Dulcie Lavers: I recycle my clothes and remake things to change the way they look, or re-use buttons. You can also use old margarine containers to keep portions of soup in the freezer, or re-use birthday cards and make bookmarks out of them.

Sharney Sentence: I re-use plastic cups from little steam puddings and put other things in them.

Bev Chandler: I saw some old shoes that had been spray-painted, filled and covered, and made into pin cushions.

Question of the Week:

June 15, 2017 by Maggi Barnard

Do you think it’s still important to celebrate the Queen’s birthday?

Sisters Marlene Burton from Forbes and Joyce Nash from Eugowra:
Joyce: Yes, of course it’s important. She deserves it. I’m amazed she can get to this age and do so well.

Geoff Suttie and Brian Collits
Brian: Yes, it is. And I can tell you the story of driv- ing my horse and sulky down the main street on the day of her coronation!
Geoff: I don’t think about the Queen’s birthday until that time of year comes around. It was good to see Colin Hodges get the Order of Australia. He’s a good bloke.

Michael Rush and Jeremy Markwort:
Michael: No. I don’t really see the point. What do the royals do for us as a country?
Jeremy: It’s not as relevant as it used to be. And if they’re looking at changing Australia Day, why celebrate the Queen’s birthday? I think we should just combine them all into Anzac Day and have one celebration.
