Croquet News and Results

Tuesday’s Golf Croquet was followed by the Annual General Meeting, with most members turning up for the games and the following AGM. The previous committee was re-elected unopposed.

November 5th will see the return to summer playing hours of 8:30am. November 12th is the date for the ever-popular birthday lunch, which will be held at the Services Club at 12pm.

Christmas lunch will be on 17th December at the Vandenburg Hotel after the morning’s games. December 20th will be the last game for the year followed by a sausage sizzle. The new playing year will commence on 11th January.

The Club members send their best wishes to Jill Rubie following knee surgery and wish her a speedy recovery.

Golf Croquet Tuesday 22nd October
There were five winners of three games on Tuesday. They were John Cole, Bruce Field, Veva MacCullagh, Neville Spry and Lorraine Todd. Welcome back to Sandy Hepburn who has been absent for a few months. Good to see the flying Scotsman back on the courts.

Aussie Croquet 26th October
The dust and wind kept the numbers down to seventeen on Saturday, with many members also away on other activities. Members were delighted to see the beginnings of what will be the new ramp up to the clubhouse. Thank you, Forbes Council.

The winners of three games were: Kevin Rubie, Lyn Simmonds and Barry White.

Netball News

The Forbes Netball night competitions for both mixed and ladies teams had some very exciting games last week.

Now that the new term has started, a reminder to all players, that all fees must still be paid before they can play in the games.

Registration includes the registration to NNSW and FNA, which can be done online, plus the $40 competition fees per player per team, which can be paid in cash at the office. Players cannot play until all fees are paid. Thank you.

Representative coaches, umpires and players 2020
The FNA committee is calling for nominations for 2020, for representative players (Opens playing Regional League), coaches and umpires to represent FNA at Regional League, Junior State Titles and Senior State Titles.

All nominations must be emailed to Secretary Melissa at secretary.forbesnetball@gmail.com

Anyone wanting information about any of the positions should email Melissa, and all nominations will be considered.

Coaches and umpires must also include their WWCC number on the application.

Charity Golf Weekend

Golfers were busy with a Rotary Charity Golf Day on Sunday as well as their Saturday competition.

With 58 players participating on Saturday, the competition was going to be good. Divi- sion 1 was won by Niel Duncan, with a +4 score. Runner-up on +3 was Paul Pymont, who warded off Greg Webb also on +3. In Division 2, Adam Currey scored +2. Gra- ham Newport was runner-up on countback. The ball sweep went ‘Square’.

The NTP’s went to: 9th–R Smith; 18th–M Spice. Visiting player was Adrian Acheson, back in Forbes for the weekend.

In Sunday’s Annual Forbes Rotary Charity Golf Day, 36 players played a 3-person Ambrose format, shotgun start at 9am, timed to beat the heat.

Scratch winner was the team of N Duncan/P Barnes/S Grallelis with a 67, snaring five birdies. Scratch runner-up was the team of R Williams/G Webb/S Uphill, with a score of 71. Handicap winner was the team of B Shine/S Shine/V Lane, using a modest handicap to score 59 5/6. Run- ner-up was the team of T West/F Emmett/L Jordan with a handy 61 1⁄2 off a higher handicap.

The NTP’s went to: 9th – A Summerhays; 18th – P Barnes. The Lucky Card draw went to D and B Slack-Smith/J Nottingham.

In the Wallace Cup, Todd Callaghan won the semi-final against Ian Bown, finishing 2-up. Todd plays Steve Grallelis in the Final.The first round of the Summer Sixes comp was played last week, with 28 teams participating.

We wish the Lachlan Valley District team including three Forbes players good luck in the Country Championships, held at Goulburn this weekend. Don’t forget the Forbes Nissan Classic on the weekend of 9/10 November.

Representative Players Opens Team 2020
The Forbes Netball Association (FNA) is calling for applications from players to represent the FNA in the Open team to compete in Regional League 2020. The representative nomination form can be downloaded from the FNA website and must be emailed to Melissa, Secretary, by November 20. Email: secretary.forbesnetball@gmail.com. The Regional League will be held over three Sundays in Orange early 2020, with dates to be confirmed next week.

Night Competitions
Last week saw a shaky start, with a small

drizzle of rain before the games started at 6pm. Unfortunately for our farmers, the weather cleared quickly and all games were able to be played.

Last week, Not Fast Just Furious did not supply an umpire for the first time, for their umpire allocation and must pay the $50 fine before they can play this week. The team will lose 2 competition points and give their opposition this week a five-goal start.

All teams only have to supply one umpire when allocated and will have support from a badged umpire when doing their duty. Without umpires, the games cannot be played.

All teams must read through the full draw for umpiring duties.

It was a nice surprise this week to see some yellow markings on the lawn beside our clubhouse, which means we are finally getting some progress from the Council to build our new ramp giving access into the toilets, kitchen and storage sheds. The stairs have been a health and safety issue for some time, especially for older players.

Hopefully our extended undercover area could be close behind. This area will give us shelter from the wind and rain and will be at the opposite end of the shed.

Golf Croquet Results 15th October

There were only two winners of three games on Tuesday, Dorelle Scott and Alec Todd. Well done to you both.

Some amazingly close games keep players excited and on task with concentration at its best.

Aussie Croquet Results 19th October

Numbers were down, with only twenty seven players gracing the courts. The morn- ing started well before the wind and dust arrived towards the end of the matches. It was then a quick chat, a cup of coffee, raisin toast and a quick pack up of tables and chairs.

There were four winners of three matches on Saturday. They were Veva MacCullagh, Kevin Rubie, Harley Stewart and Neville Spry.

Championships Surprises

The final two rounds of the Forbes Golf Championships were played over the weekend. Some exceptional scores resulted in surprise winners in some grades. Shane Sallaway scored a 68 Scratch on Saturday to lead the A-grade into the final round, while Kim Herbert and Ken Sander- son both had handy leaders in their grades. The C-grade was wide open with six possible winners.

Following some excellent play, the overall results are:

A-Grade Scratch: Shane Sallaway (291) from Steve Betland (293).
A-Grade Handicap: Shane Sallaway (283) from John Betland (295).
A-Reserve Scratch: Kim Herbert (320) from John Zannes (333).
B-Grade Scratch: Ken Sanderson (342) from Brian Everest (349).
B-Grade Handicap: Ken Sanderson (290) from Brian Everest (293).
C-Grade Scratch: Rod Besgrove (402) from Steve Grallelis (404).
C-Grade Handicap: Steve Grallelis (308) from Rod Besgrove (310).
Veterans Scratch: Peter Dawson (308).
Veterans Handicap: Kim Herbert (280).
Junior Scratch: Cameron McMillan (335).

There were daily competitions played on both days. Saturday saw the Division 1 go to Shane Sallaway with his outstanding 66 nett. Runner-up was Steve Betland (70 nett). In Division 2, Don Ridley finished with 70 nett, ahead of runner-up Richard Smith with 71. The ball sweep went to 74 nett. The NTP’s went to: 9th – S Betland; 18th – E Gaffney.

The Sunday Division 1 winner was Brian Everest with 69 nett. Runner-up went to Ethan Gaffney (72). In Division 2, Steve Grallelis (68) triumphed, followed by Adam Currey (74). The ball sweep went to 75 nett on countback. The NTP’s went to: 9th – S Sallaway; 18th – L O’Connor.

This Sunday, there is a Charity Golf Day organised by Forbes Rotary. This is open to Club and social players, with play being in a 3-person Ambrose. The fee is $35, which includes a BBQ lunch. Contact the Pro Shop to put your name down.

Forbes netballers return this week, welcome back to all players and umpires. The Forbes Netball monthly meeting will be held October 17 at 7pm at the Forbes Services Memorial Club. All teams must be represented and will receive two competition bonus points. Agenda items must be emailed to Secretary Melissa at secretary.forbesnetball@gmail.com.

Team representatives must update their team nomination forms this week at the office on Wednesday night.

Croquet News And Results

The Annual General Meeting has been put back until the 22nd October and will be held after our Tuesday games at the Clubhouse. If it rains, the meeting will be held at the Uniting Church. The membership fees for the coming year are now due. The fees must be paid before the AGM. Members noted that the drought is taking its toll on the ground in patches.

Golf Croquet Results 8th October
Only two games were played due to the 3rd game being washed out after a heavy shower rolled across the grounds. There were some very close games to report and obviously no winners of three games. We were pleased to welcome two visitors, C. Hunt and E. Hunt. It would be helpful if sponsors of guests made sure that their first names were noted in the results book.

Aussie Croquet Results 12th October
We had a cool start for our Saturday Aussie croquet with a line-up of 21 players for the first game, 20 players for the second game and 22 players for the third game. There were only three winners of three games on the day, namely Merv Langfield, Harley Stewart and Lyn Simmonds. It was great news for Lyn Simmonds. This is the first time in over a year she has won all her matches. Well done.

First Rounds In Forbes Men’s Golf Championships

The Forbes Men’s Golf Championships began on the weekend.

John Betland leads the A-Grade Scratch by two shots from Steve Betland and Dan Bayley. Dan leads the A-Grade Handicap by three shots over Shane Sallaway. The A-Reserve Scratch sees Kim Herbert (158) ahead of Cam McMillan (159).

The B-Grade Scratch and Handicap hon- ours are a tussle between Ken Sanderson and Brian Everest. In C-Grade, Adam Currey leads the Scratch (197) and Handicap (149). Determined chaser is Bruce Squires – Scratch 201 and Handicap 155.

The Vets and Junior Championships are wide open.

There is a daily competition played over two Divisions. On Day 1, the A-Division winner was Laurie O’Connor (67 nett) from runner up John Zannes (68 nett). The B- division winner was Max Haley (72 nett) from Don Ridley on 73 nett.

The ball sweep went to 74 nett on count- back, check the Pro Shop for details. The NTP’s went to: 9th A Tucker; 18th K Sanderson.

On Day 2, the A-Division winner was Kim Herbert (69) on countback from runner-up Anthony Alley (69). In the B-Division, Adam Currey won with nett 71, ahead of Malcolm Langfield on 74 nett. The ball sweep went to 75 nett on countback. Again, check at the Pro Shop. The NTP’s went to: 9th C Alley; 18th D Bayley.

Low Scores For Monthly Medal

On Saturday, the men’s comp was the October Monthly Medal, sponsored by Forbes Concrete and contested by a field of 64 players.

The A-Grade was won by Dave Mylecharane, with a nett 69 to take the Medal. Runner-up on countback was John Betland with a fine 70 nett. The B-Grade Medal went to Jacob Bernardi with a nett 63. Runner-up was Clint Hurford with a nett 65. The C-Grade was a tight contest but Steve Grallelis took the Medal with a nett 67. Runner-up was John Ridley with a 68 nett, on countback from three other players on 68 nett.

The ball sweep went to 70 nett, going to:63–JBernardi;65–CHurford;67–S Grallelis, B Parker; 68 – J Ridley, J Cutler, G Newport and H Sykes; 69 – R Baker, M Haley, D Mylecharane; 70- K Sanderson, J Betland, T Griffiths, G Falvey, D Bayley and S Sallaway.

The NTP’s went to: 9th – S Sallaway; 18th – K Sanderson. The only visitor was Hugh Sykes from SGA Golf Club, an online club which features players from across the country.

The Sunday Stableford Medley was played in windy conditions. Damien Kennedy (35 pts) was the winner with runner up Clint Hurford (32 pts). There was no ball sweep and only one NTP. That went to Ethan Gaffney on the 9th.

Monday’s Stableford Medley saw Ethel Coombs with 35 points as the winner. Runner-up was Kim Herbert on 34 pts and on countback. The ball sweep went to 34, going to Peter Dawson. The NTP’s, sponsored by GWG, went to 9th – B Shields; 18th – K Herbert.

The Club Championships, played over four rounds on Saturday and Sunday for consecutive weekends, begin this week- end. Good luck to all participants and an invitation to supporters to come out and watch the players.

The Summer Sixes comp will soon be up and running. Initially, there are a few weeks of ‘handicapping rounds’. Team nomination forms are available from the Pro Shop.

The VW Scramble previously scheduled for Sunday 29 September has been postponed to Sunday 17 November. Contact Head Pro Ben for more information on this event.

The Forbes Nissan Classic, sponsored by Frank Spice Motors, will be held on the weekend of 9/10 November. Get your name on the timesheet in the Pro Shop be- fore the field for this popular event fills up.

The AGM for the FGA is scheduled for Wed 30 October, with a 6:00 for 6:30 pm start. Please attend and provide support to those elected onto the various committees.
