Kym Goodall

How long have you lived in or around Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes for most of my life, aside from a few years in Orange and Batemans Bay. Family kept drawing us back home and I love the small town community.

What do you do to unwind on weekends? I have recently taken up a new hobby of making drinking tumblers. It allows me to destress and gives me a creative outlet.

What’s on your bucket list? I want to travel around Australia and also overseas. I hope that soon we can get a caravan and start touring around the country a bit more.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself? I was a contestant in Dancing with the Stars in Forbes a few years ago. I loved being a participant and raising funds for such a great charity.

What was your first job? Check out chick at Woolies.

Tell us about your best holiday ever? My family and I spent six weeks traveling through Europe. It was amazing to soak in all the history, and to visit family in Greece.

How long have you lived in or around Forbes and what do you like about living here? I arrived in December 2011 from Queensland, aiming to get closer to my family in Canberra. I was attracted to Forbes by the rural life style, the open scenery and the friendly atmosphere. The friendliness of the people makes it a good place to live.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy most about where you work? I am now retired but used to work for the Forestry Corporation. It took me all over the countryside and into some amazing rural landscapes. Since retirement I spend far too much time at the golf course, or so my wife thinks.

What do you do to unwind on weekends? Weekends are usually golf orientated, although the recent addition of a granddaughter to our family and the re-location of our sons closer to us means more family time.

What are you really good at? Perhaps, making a nuisance of myself to my friends? No, I enjoy volunteer work and try to help out as much as possible.

What makes you laugh the most? A good joke told amongst family and friend groups.

What’s on your bucket list? Travel to Greece, and to St Andrews Golf Course in Scotland. And finally do an Aussie desert trip with my two sons.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself….My paternal heritage is Greek. When my paternal grandfather arrived in Australia, he changed his surname to the current form so there are only 15 of us worldwide with our surname!

If money was no object, what would you do with your time? Take my wife travelling, help the kids with their lifestyles, make our own life more comfortable, and assist the struggling sporting clubs around town.

Meet Our New Phoenix Team Member

May 20, 2022 by Maggi Barnard

Brett Sale is the new cadet reporter at The Forbes Phoenix.

Brett Sale has joined The Forbes Phoenix as a cadet reporter to cover all the local news in and around Forbes.

Born and raised in Port Arthur in Tasmania, Brett is new to the Central West having only moved here in January this year from Sydney’s hustle and bustle. It was a move not only to be closer to family and friends, but also to buy a home and start a family.

Before taking on the challenges of journalism, he said his best job was being a butcher for four years. “I enjoyed this to no end. It taught me not only a trade but a fine culinary style of cooking, which is popular at home and amongst friends.”

The exciting aspects of being a journalist was what lured him into making a career change. “I have a thirst for information, and I’m able to strike up conversations with anyone. I also like to immerse myself in the details, I’m curious and know to ask the right questions to ensure accuracy in my stories.”

He sees his new role as a great opportunity to grow and develop relationships with the local community. “Finding a job you love is age-old advice. Confucius probably has the best long-standing quote: “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

When Brett is not occupying himself with journalism, he enjoys fly fishing and spending time in the outdoors. “I love to keep up with the local music scene and stay up to date with technology and world news.”

Over the past few months he has learned to love Forbes for its picturesque, clean image. “Whether it be our magnificent heritage, abundant birdlife, or the myriad of sculptures, there’s so much to see and do.” He enjoys taking the boat out at the ski dam, fishing on the Lachlan River, relaxing at Lake Forbes, or exploring the town centre and the new digital heritage trail.
