Local Printing Business Launches Website That Rivals Major Players

February 25, 2022 by Maggi Barnard

Local printing business, Yellow House Cowra Design and Print, has launched a state-of-the-art new website that has all of the functions of other global printing companies.

Yellow House Cowra Manager Joshua Matic said he commissioned the new website to be created so his business could match the services Vistaprint offers, but printed locally right here in the Central West.

The website has a huge variety of functions, including online ordering, a contact form for quotes and enquires, samples, and even design templates where customers can design their own print job on the website, submit and pay for the job. All online orders can be shipped anywhere in Australia.

With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing a “re-think” in the way businesses operate, Mr Matic said this new website was all about innovating his business to not only encourage locals to shop locally, but also attract business from outside of the region.

“With COVID-forced lockdowns and restrictions taking an economic toll, many people have been shopping around for the best deals, even if this means not shopping locally,” he said.

“This means it has been more important than ever for all businesses to find other ways of not only retaining their regular, local customers, but also attracting more from other areas to maintain or even increase their business.”

The Yellow House Cowra website can be found at www.yellowhousecowra.com.

Holy Holy – Mini Vanfest Set For April With Main Event In December!

February 25, 2022 by Maggi Barnard

IT’S BACK: Mini Vanfest will be held as a one-day only event on Saturday April 9 while the main event will be held in December; INSET: Punters are encouraged to get in early after pre-sale tickets for Mini Vanfest were exhausted last week after the lineup was announced. Photo supplied.

It has been the talk of the town all week – not one but two Vanfests this year with the first being held on April 9 called Mini Vanfest before the main event comes to town in December.

In a real boost for the Forbes and Central West communities, Julia Stone, the enigmatic and mystical half of Angus and Julia Stone, returns while the popular May-esque riffs of Holy Holy will also headline the mini version in six weeks.

The one-day version will also feature twice platinum-selling artist Jarryd James, Complicated singer Eves Karydas, alt-pop act Loretta, reggae group Rum Jungle from Newcastle and Toowoomba rising star Cloe Terrare as well as a plethora of local artists.

“In support of the live music industry, regional NSW and the local community, not only will Vanfest return bigger and better than ever this December, but it will also be joined by a killer Mini Vanfest early this year to warm back into the groove and get the flow of live music back into our veins,” a statement from organisers said on their website.

Mini Vanfest 2022 will be held at South Circle Park Forbes, NSW on Saturday, 9 April 2022. Book your tickets online at: oztix.com.au.

Local acts are still to be announced. Get your tickets early and don’t miss out!

Stay NSW Vouchers Go Live

February 25, 2022 by Maggi Barnard

A $50 accommodation voucher will be available from today as part of the NSW Government’s $250 million Stay NSW program. Applications for the vouchers will be made available by Local Government Area in a staggered approach. Every community will have access to them by 3 March.

Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government Victor Dominello said the voucher initiative is a commitment to bolster the accommodation industry while getting people excited to travel in NSW. “This is a win-win for NSW – the vouchers will give hard hit businesses much needed stimulus, while also encouraging residents to explore our great State,” Mr Dominello said.

“The Stay NSW program has been expanded and fast-tracked, so people can enjoy a staycation sooner. Whether it’s a quiet country inn, the family-run caravan park or a hotel in the Sydney CBD, every budget needs a boost this year.”

Applying is fast and simple via the Service NSW mobile app, through the Service NSW website or by calling 13 77 88 for assistance.

There are more than 1,200 Stay NSW businesses registered across the State but it is not too late for accommodation premises to get on board. Stay NSW Vouchers are valid until 9 October, 2022.

February 25, 2022 by Maggi Barnard

The Saturday Forbes Bus Lines Men’s Individual Stableford event saw Barry Parker get the spoils with 42 pts from Brian Everest on 41.

Division 2 players played closer to their handicaps with Les Little (37 pts) nudging Bruce Squires on 36 points. The ball sweep went to 34 points – check in the Pro Shop to see if you earned one.

The NTP’s went to – 9th – Brian Clarke, 18th – Dave Mylecharane. The 3rd Hole Super Pin went to John Betland, with a shot to 4.40 metres, underlining the difficulty in the wind.

The Men’s Pennants teams travelled to Parkes with a less than exciting day for results. The Divisions 1, 2 and 3 teams played against Dubbo, with Divisions 1 and 3 recording losses. The Division 2 team had a narrow win by 3/2.

The Division 4 team played Parkes and despite losing 3/2 they were still in for a chance at the Grand Final, but Bathurst won their match 4/1 against Dubbo and pipped Forbes for the Grand Final spot by 1 point.

The Ladies competition play starts next Wednesday 3rd March. Don’t forget the 3-Person Ambrose set for Sunday, 20 March.

Confidence Key Component To NSW Budget

February 18, 2022 by Maggi Barnard

POSITIVE BUDGET OUTLOOK: Business NSW – West-ern’s Vicki Seccombe is optimistic the budget will have positive impact on business. The NSW Perrottet-Toole government will be delivering their first budget together after the resignation of both Gladys Berejiklian and John Barilaro in the past four months.

The ability to trade safely, to welcome back customers and staff with certainty, and the ability to plan for the future are top priorities for business while quickly rebuilding consumer and trading confidence is central to the state’s peak business organisation, Business NSW’s submission ahead of the upcoming NSW Budget. The submission has been formally lodged with the NSW Government.

“As we enter the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ability to deploy agile and tailored policy making responses remain key,” said Business NSW Regional Manager – Western NSW, Vicki Seccombe.

“The NSW Government’s leadership and collaboration supporting businesses has again been demonstrated, with the delivery, without Federal Government assistance, of the $1billion business support package including direct payments to businesses of up to $5,000 per week,” Ms Seccombe said.

“The rebuilding of consumer and business confidence and tailored support for particular business sectors and localities doing it tough are key priorities for the first months of 2022 and through new variants or a ‘winter wave’,” she said.

Increased freedom and flexibility to safely get on with it remain the biggest challenges for business, Ms Seccombe added.

Hot Scores In Golf

February 18, 2022 by Maggi Barnard

The Saturday Men’s golf competition was an Individual Stableford event sponsored by Troy Howe Electrical. The hot day produced many hot scores.

The Division-1 was won by Jack Dobell (40 pts) on count back from Andy Brownlow of Peak Hill. Both had 24 and 16 points for 9-hole scores but were reversed with Jack doing better on the back-9.

The Division-2 players produced the best score with 41 points by Greg Webb, who has a fresh ‘Life Elixir’ to help him swing well. Runner-up was Matt Duff (40) who had an indifferent start but came home really strongly.

The ball sweep went to 35 points, on count back – check in the Pro Shop to see if you earned one. The NTP’s went to Graham Newport on the 9th and Matt Duff on the 18th. The 3rd Hole Super Pin went to Andrew Brownlow, with a shot to 2.09 metres.

The Sunday Stableford Medley had three players, all visitors, with locals either playing Pennants or sheltering from the hot day.

Do not forget the Callaway Equipment Demo Day on Thursday, 24 February. We also have a 3-Person Ambrose set for Sunday, 20 March.

Bedgerabong Picnic Cup Races In With Excitement And Fashion

February 18, 2022 by Maggi Barnard

OFF TO THE RACES: Forbes friends Nadika Skinner, Shania Wakeman, Natalie Robb, Karli Noakes, Krystal Hanley
and Simone Holmes were elated to be able to go to the Bedgerabong Picnic Race Cup meeting after the last two years
of COVID lockdowns.

You could be forgiven for thinking it was 2018 again but the 2022 edition of the Total Wear Solutions Australia Bedgerabong Picnic Cup will be as remembered for teenager William Stanley’s back-to-back victories as it will be for the swell of numbers who turned up.

Sold out well before, the latest Bedgerabong Picnic Cup race meeting was the first of any kind held since October last year when the most recent Omicron variant swept through NSW and Victoria causing a raft of cancellations to the picnic racing calendar.

Under new COVID restrictions, the well-behaved 2000 strong crowd were treated to some spectacular local and TAB racing, glittering fashions in the field, fine local food, ice cold beverages, lively band Foxy Cleopatra and the chance to catch up after two years of unprecedented challenges.

“It’s a great day out and a chance to see some friends,” said Forbes local Karli Noakes. “Especially given the last two years,” she said.

This year’s event was roughly double the capacity from 2021 when 17-year-old William Stanley from Bathurst won the Bedgerabong Cup on Bryan Dixon’s Song One from Gilgandra. This year, Stanley repeated the dose on Valydium enroute to a perfect two from two return at the track for the youngster.

Yet for the ladies, it was all about fashion more than the field and the opportunity to socialise again.

From all reports it was worth the wait and another great event!

Mayoral Notes

February 18, 2022 by Maggi Barnard

You may have heard about the minor fish kill Lake Forbes experienced late last week. We have notified the Department of Primary Industries and they have inspected the waterway. As suspected it is a repercussion of the recent flooding.

Impacts on water quality are expected with the first flush of water on floodplains or after long droughts when organic material such as sticks, leaves, bark and grass is broken down in floodwater or washed off the floodplain into the river resulting in very low dissolved (hypoxic) oxygen levels. This can have localised impacts on fish species. DPI Fisheries will continue to work with partner agencies and stakeholders to manage and monitor water quality and river conditions.

There have been a lot of questions regarding the closure of the Vandenberg Hotel and why isn’t Council doing something about it. I would like the community to know the Council cannot get involved in the sale of businesses. We can encourage the new owners to re-open but we cannot tell them how to run their business.

We have another great event coming up soon, International Women’s Day. Again we will feel inspired by our ‘legendary local ladies’ and feel nourished with amazing canapes and delicious cocktails. Tickets are now on sale through 123tix or see our website for more details. It will be an amazing night and all proceeds will be donated to Running For Premature Babies, a great cause.

God Bless.

Your Mayor,
Phyllis Miller
