Last Saturday night at Wentworth Park, Forbes trainer Jack Smith did the treble when kennel mates Jungle Deuce, Irinka Molly and Dip It In all won their respective races. Jungle Deuce sizzled in the best time of the night rocketing to 29.49 over 520m. Jungle Deuce is considered by many to be the hottest young prospect in training and he may have equalled his previous best of 29.31 if not for checking eventual second place getter Ritza Coen at box rise.
Firsts Win But Seconds Fall Short

RUGBY IS BACK: The Central West Blowes Menswear Rugby Competition returned on the weekend as Forbes battled old foe Cowra in Round 1 at Forbes.
They say “winning starts in the front office” and if last weekend’s Forbes Platypi Rugby Union Club Sponsor’s Day is anything to go by season 2021 is already a win.
From food vendors and a carnival atmosphere to a packed house all there to support local rugby, in ideal conditions – the day was a cracking way to start the new season.
Forbes Platypi 1st Grade side started off their Blowes Menswear Central West Rug-by Union title ambitions with a win for their sponsors over a gallant Cowra side 33-8 in Forbes last weekend.
After a year of little to no local sport, Grinstead Oval was awash with Platypi fans on the weekend in what was a tremendous game that saw the Platypi prove too classy for the 2019 strugglers.
The Platypi, who have been one of the more fancied sides in the competition over recent seasons were expected to make light work of lowly Cowra in firsts and the tale of the tape read as such as Forbes forward pack began to assert its dominance on the scoreboard to go with their glut of possession.
Forbes looked to stamp their authority from the outset again in the second half, never letting their neighbours into the contest with slick set plays and hunger in a pleasing sign before the big trip to Orange to face the Emu’s in what promises to be an exciting tussle between the old arch rivals.
Forbes 2nd Grade meanwhile will be left rueing a raft of missed opportunities in a narrow 17-14 loss to Cowra. Despite the tight defeat, there is plenty of reason for optimism.
In a see-sawing affair where both sides weren’t prepared to give an inch, only a penalty goal separated the two teams after the full-time siren.
Sharing The Wiradjuri Language
The resumption of the “Ngiyang Burambabirra” project (Language sharing), which was delayed due to COVID-19, saw Forbes, Bogan Gate, Trundle, Tullamore and Peak Hill join Caragabal, Bedgerabong and Parkes schools, preschools, libraries and homework centres finally receive a Wiradjuri language package.
The long-term project was in collaboration with Sisters of Mercy (Parkes), Galari-Lachlan Reconciliation Group, Forbes Wiradjuri Language Group, CMOC Northparkes mine, Forbes Aboriginal and Community Working Party, Forbes Shire Council, Wiradjuri Condobolin Corporation and the Department of Primary Industries & Environment in Cowra.
Education packs included – Wiradjuri Dictionary, “Yindyamarra Yambuwan” (15 minute Wiradjuri language film on ‘respecting everything’) DVD, Embossed language notebook supplied by Wiradjuri Condobolin Corporation and Wiradjuri language pen.
Cricket Wrapped For Season
A big congrats to the Globe for making it three A Grade titles in a row after a 27 run win in the grand final recently. Lead by Jack Cole with a well compiled 40, Globe finished at 5/144 and restricted Trundle to 117 in reply. Coopa Martin finished with 2/14.

George Wright Shield This Saturday

The question was recently raised, is there a better rivalry in country rugby league than Forbes Magpies vs Parkes Spacemen? While you could stack an argument for many from Wee Waa and Narrabri to Orange and Bathurst, this Saturday April 17 from 2pm the next chapter in this fierce but friendly rivalry will be written when both sides take the field to contest the annual George Wright Snr Memorial Shield at Spooners Oval.
Both clubs have decided it is only fitting to remember the life of life long supporter George Wright with a memorial shield to be played annually as the pre-season game between Forbes and Parkes.
George was a long-time friend, supporter and water boy for many years for the Parkes Spaceman. Well known in racing and rugby league circles in the Central West, George’s life will be annually celebrated through this memorial game.
George’s wife Leanne, children George jnr and Bianca as well as grandkids will be in attendance to help celebrate the occasion.
The match-ups on display are worth their weight in gold – Maguire vs Tago, Porter vs Greenhalgh and Dwyer vs Andrews among some of the highlights in what should be a great day of rugby league.
There will be full bar & canteen facilities available, jumping castle for the kids, raffles, 100 clubs and merchandise on sale. The program starts at 2pm.
The Magpies and Spaceman also invite all players, sponsors and supporters to a BBQ dinner and presentation of the shield at the Post Office Hotel from 7.30pm after the games.
