CW Pfizer Vax’s Redirected To Sydney HSC Students

August 6, 2021 by Maggi Barnard

NSW Health is redirecting Pfizer vaccines from other regions across the state to support Year 12 students in Greater Sydney returning to face-to-face learning for their HSC. As a result, residents in the Central West may receive a notice advising that their first dose of Pfizer will be rescheduled.

“If you have had your first dose already or if you’re in priority groups 1a or 1b, you will not have your bookings rescheduled,” a NSW spokesperson said.

“GPs continue to supply Pfizer vaccinations in regional NSW, and their supplies from the Federal Government are unaffected by this reallocation,” the spokesperson said. “AstraZeneca also remains available from GPs, NSW Health clinics and a growing number of pharmacies.”

Public health advice, based on the latest information from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), now recommends that all individuals in NSW aged 18 years and over should consider getting vaccinated with any available vaccine, including COVID-19 AstraZeneca Vaccine.

“NSW Health apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and really appreciate your patience”.

You can book another COVID-19 vaccine appointment at your local GP, community pharmacy or a NSW Health clinic near you.

LPSSA Success For Forbes Students

Both Forbes North and Forbes Public School have plenty to be happy about after some outstanding results at the Lachlan PSSA Champs last week. With restrictions playing havoc with postponements and delays, the anticipated carnival was finally held last Friday July 30 in Parkes. Both schools have a number of students off to Dubbo for Western Athletics in Week 8. Well done and watch this space for more stories over the coming weeks!

Magpies Soar In All Four Over Jets

Forbes Magpies first grade side returned to the winners circle in emphatic fashion with a resounding 54-18 win over an injury ravaged Narromine Jets at Spooners Oval in Forbes last weekend. It was a timely win for the Magpies and a reminder of the potential the club has after reserves also got the job done in a hard fought 12-10 win of their own. The Magpie juniors also took care of business saluting 52-14 while in the League Tag the local girls also got the nod in a tight tussle 8-6.

Platypi Have Tough Day At Office

Forbes Platypi First XV side look set to finish fourth after losing to Bathurst Bulldogs 28-19 at Anne Ashwood Park in Bathurst last Saturday. Ironically, it also appears likely both sides will clash again in two weeks in a rematch on the same ground irrespective of last round results. Forbes play Dubbo tomorrow in Round 15 of the Central West Blowes Menswear Cup at Grinstead Oval with First XV kick off at 3:15pm.

HOME LOSS: Forbes Allstars suffered a tough loss to Parkes Wanderers at home last weekend. Pic courtesy of Essjay Photography.

Forbes Winter Show Postponed

The Forbes Winter Show has been reschedule for the 24th October. The lockdowns in three nearby LGAs, together with the restrictions on anyone who had travelled through those areas, combined with the fact that we shouldn’t be encouraging travel through those regions, made it too difficult to run our event as planned, a Facebook post stated.
We are looking forward to our new date in October when the COVID situation has hopefully settled down. Sorry for the disappointment and thank you all so much for your support. Refunds on all pre-entries, less nomination processing fees will be put through the system today.

Magpies Go Down In Arm Wrestle

After last weeks loss to CYMS, Forbes had a point to prove this week and while they didn’t get the chocolates, the 24-14 loss to Macquarie Raiders was a big effort. Forbes will be kicking themselves for the litany of missed chances and could well have beaten their more fancied rivals. Onwards and upwards though in some promising signs for first grade.

Little Magpies Win Goodwin Molloy Cup

Forbes has taken out the 2021 Goodwin Molloy Cup. Stemming from a rivalry that goes back to 2014 and named after former West Wyalong and Penrith player Matt Goodwin as well as Forbes Stalwart Craig Molloy, the cup is played across all competitive grades with the glory going to the team with the most wins on the day.

Allstars Back To Drawing Board

It was a game to forget for Forbes Allstars who came crashing back to reality with a 3-0 loss to Parkes Wanderers at home. After a good run of results, the Allstars had every reason to be confident but the Wanderers got the win.

Now Is The Time To Use Your Dine & Discover Vouchers

Business NSW is encouraging the Western NSW community to use their NSW Government’s Dine & Discover vouchers before they expire on Saturday 31 August.

“The Greater Sydney and Orange region lockdowns has had a devastating impact to many businesses right across Western NSW and using your Dine & Discover vouchers is one way you can support your local businesses and their staff throughout this trying time,” said Business NSW, Regional Manager – Western NSW, Vicki Seccombe.

“We surveyed our members at the beginning of the restrictions, and high-level results suggested business revenue was down by at least 40% in certain sectors across Western NSW. We have no doubt that this is still the case for many businesses, particularly across the Orange, Cabonne and Blayney local government areas,” she said.

The Dine and Discover program was recently updated so that Dine NSW vouchers can be used for Takeaway purchases as well.

“This change means we can continue to support businesses, even if we are not able to get out and about due to recent restrictions and lockdowns. We’ve been hearing that some people are yet to apply for their vouchers or don’t know how to apply, but this is a simple process and we encourage all Western NSW residents to apply via the Service NSW website or call Service NSW if you need assistance,” said Ms Seccombe.

“There are two categories of vouchers – Two $25 vouchers can be used for takeaway meals and dining in restaurants, cafes, bars, wineries, pubs and clubs. The remaining two $25 vouchers are for entertainment and recreation, including cultural institutions, live music, and arts venues. Now is the time to use your Dine and Discover vouchers and support your businesses, so that they will still be here when this is all over,” Ms Seccombe said.

GET A SKIN CHECK: Dr Dan flew into Forbes last week for a visit and checked 63 patients for skin cancers. Studies show more people in regional Australia are likely to get skin cancers than their city cousins.

Dr Dan’s Flying Skin Cancer Visit: Dr Dan recently travelled solo to Parkes, Tottenham, Condobolin and Forbes. Liz Mitchell in Parkes and Forbes helped navigate COVID risk assessments and secure the clearance so Dr Dan could still conduct skin cancer checks and treatments in their towns. Unfortunately, RN Sammy was stuck in the Sydney lockdown, checking in patients from afar. Dr Dan saw 63 patients, and one-third required skin cancer treatments. In metro areas, about one in 10 people need skin cancer treatment. In rural Australia, the rate is much higher, mainly because people don’t have the same access to advanced skin cancer services.

Goldridge Estate Cable Laid: It’s the new development that will go a long way towards addressing housing challenges and the sewer mains for the new Goldridge Estate should be laid by the end of August, with works on water mains to begin immediately thereafter according to councils’ engineering department at the July council meeting. The report said the construction team had started making some good progress after some wet weeks and delays laying almost 200 metres of sewer main each day. Goldridge Estate is a council land release that will feature 221 residential blocks with a central green space for parkland. The first stage will have 25 blocks available for purchase off the plan by Spring all things being equal.

An Easy Way To Donate To CanAssist: Commencing on February 22 this year, Forbes CanAssist will become a donation partner on the Forbes Return and Earn vending machine in Sam Street, Forbes. This means that anyone using the machine from then will be able to donate their proceeds directly to CanAssist Forbes by pushing the appropriate button on the vending machine. Forbes Canassist will be a donation partner for 6 months from February 22nd until August 22nd. We hope you will consider this and help CanAssist continue to provide assistance to Forbes and district residents living with and/or receiving treatment for cancer.

POSTPONED: Local Government elections will be post-poned until December 4 after recent COVID restrictions from a spike in cases.
