Want To Perform On Stage?

November 14, 2024 by Roxane Manley

Elisa Emassari performing at EJ’s last event.

EJ’s is a community based music club located in Parkes NSW with an aim to promote local musicians in the region and mentor younger musicians in performing on stage whilst on their musical journey, allowing the younger generation to gain experience through live audience attendance which will hopefully inspire them further.

We welcome all musical talent, comedy and poetry participation as well, as all three of these things can contribute to songwriting. EJ’s is held on the last Sunday of the month, the next event will be on the 24th, watch the EJ’s facebook page for any updates or changes.

Low Scores To Win A Medal

November 14, 2024 by Short Putt

Pictured is visitor, Larry Kearney letting rip on a tee shot.

Last weekend the Forbes Men’s golfers played the Monthly Medal event, sponsored by Jelbart’s Tyrepower. The field of 71 players was bolstered by a number of visitors.

The A-Grade Medal was won by Harry Callaghan with a nett 69. He was determined to do well, having beeb observed practising beforehand and played with a concentrated stare. Runner-up was Kailab Tyne (nett 71) who surprised himself after having just returned from a whirlwind trip.

The B-Grade Medal went to Peter Barnes, whose 64 nett was the lowest of the day. He is definitely striking the ball well. Runner-up was David Quirk with 71 nett. Although a good score it was a day of ‘if only’.

The C-Grade Medal was won by the quiet achiever, Liam Fraser. His 71 nett was well ahead of the runner-up Elliott Parker (Parkes) on 75 nett.

The ball sweep went to 76 nett on count back, with 18 balls handed out. Check in the Pro Shop to see if you were successful.

The NTP’s went to: 9th Ben Coultas (Parkes), 18th Jake LeBrocque. Ben converted and was one of the ten 2’s scored on the day. The third hole Super Pin went to Steve Grallelis with a shot to 123 cm. He will tell you it was a magnificent shot but don’t listen to him.

This Saturday, 16th November, is a Stroke event sponsored by Loomzy’s Fish N Fix. To be played in the conjunction is the Annual ‘Medal of Medallists’, for which all of the medallists from December 2023 to November 2024 are eligible. Sunday will have a Stableford Medley.

Another Great Week For Forbes Croquet

November 14, 2024 by Elvy Quirk

Members of the Croquet club pictured with Sponsors Colleen and Kevin Gunn.

Aussie Croquet was played on Saturday 9th November on a lovely, not too warm morning and all who attended enjoyed the game and the social catch up. Once again Catriona Hunt (Robin Pols daughter) came to have a game with us.

On the day, two games won by John Browne, John Cole, Frank Donohoe, Carolyn Neilsen, Fay Picker, Robin Pols, Elvy Quirk, Vince Roberts, Kevin Rubie and Peter West. Well done to those players.

All three games were won by David West and May Jones. David is now showing his style at winning and of course youth is behind him. We hope David can encourage some other younger players to come along as we would like to see some more young people join in.

Our past player Bob Murray is not too well at present, but we hope to see him back soon enjoying a cuppa with us. Cherylin Cole is at present a patient in Orange Hospital and hopefully it will not be too long before we see her up and about again.

Last week our most senior member Bruce Field celebrated his 97th Birthday.

Congratulations to Bruce who still shows his style on the Croquet lawns.

President Elvy laid a wreath on Remembrance Day on behalf of Forbes Croquet Club. The wreath was capably made by John Browne – a special thanks to John.

Our monthly luncheon was held at the Forbes Sportsmans Hotel on Tuesday 12th November where all birthdays for November were celebrated.

Our new summer start time is 9am with arrival by 8.45am to get names in the draw.

Our Christmas celebrations are coming around fast and our special Christmas luncheon and prize giving is being held at the Vandenberg Hotel on 17th December, so please put that date on your calendar.

Christmas Card Competition Closing Soon

November 7, 2024 by Roxane Manley

Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack is reminding schools and students across the Riverina and Central West his 2024 Christmas card design competition is closing soon.

“This year’s Christmas card design competition theme is “We Wish You a Riverina Christmas,” Mr McCormack said.

“The top three designs will be featured on my personal Christmas card, which will be sent to key stakeholders and parliamentary colleagues.

“Schools have until Friday 8th November 2024 to submit their entries to my Wagga Wagga office.

“Last year more than 1,700 entries were sent in from eligible students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2.

“Unfortunately, this year will be the last opportunity for some schools to enter the competition, as schools in Bland, Forbes and Parkes Shires will no longer be in the Riverina electorate after the next election.

“I urge schools and students in these shires to make the fullest of this opportunity.

Submissions from schools are requested to be enclosed and posted in a single package to Suite 2/11-15 Fitzmaurice Street, Wagga Wagga NSW 2650, or alternatively, submissions can be scanned and emailed to michael.mccormack.mp@aph.gov.au
