Forbes To Host Football NSW Country Cup

June 29, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Forbes and District Soccer Club will host the Football NSW Country Cup for under 12s, 14s and 16s girls on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 7th to 9th July.

The club had received entries for nine under 12s teams, seven under 14s teams, and six nder 16s teams.

This is the first time a Lachlan District Club has hosted the cup so not only do we have all of our girls teams participating, we would love to see lots of families and friends supporting our Lachlan girls from Forbes, Parkes, Grenfell, Young and Cowra soccer clubs over the three days.

The following Forbes & Lachlan Utd girls have been selected for final FNSW Country U/14 Selection Camp for the National Championship to be held at Bathurst 5th to 7th July; Josie Mckenzie (Forbes and Canberra Croatia), Ruby Schofield (Young & Canberra Croatia) and Indiana Kennedy (Parkes and Blacktown Spartans). If successful in making the final 16 they will play against Australia’s best at the National Championships in Wollongong from 9th to 13th October.

Special mention for Nick Zannes who has progressed into the FNSW TSP program as U/15 Goalkeeper and heads to Goulburn this Sunday for the boys selection process.

Good Luck to all of you!

Boars Ladies Keep CSU Mitchell On Back Foot

June 29, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Pictured is star player Maely Macgregor on the fly.

The Parkes ladies enjoyed the first points of the game on the first kick off to Sunshine Packer. From the restart Kimmi Birmingham found a huge gap in the defence and smashed the line to score then converted her own from in front of the goal. Kaitlin Harris was next to cross – jumping the defence to score. Kimeaka added the extras.

CSU were on the back foot and just could not control the ball, handling errors were costly.

From the back of a penalty scrum Maely Macgregor made 40 meters before passing the ball off to Tess Woods who made no mistakes with a solid grounding.

With moments to go CSU took the advantage of a penalty scrum on the 5m and crossed for their first. Conversion was successful. At half time Parkes 24 – CSU 7.

The second half saw no score from CSU – the Boars had their heads up and seemingly scored at will.

Try’s to Emma Evans, Kaitlin Harris, Teagan Smede (2) and Tess Woods. Conversions by Teagan Smede (2).

The Boars ladies have become a formable team this year with an injection of dynamic new players all keen to see finals rugby. The youngest players Teagan Smede, Maely Macgregor and Lucy Turner again cementing their places. On field leadership of Sunshine Packer, Karsyn Blanco and Kate Marchinton adding to the depth of the team. Natalie Caruana never takes a backward step and Taylor Draper and Jasmine Kew add the sparkle to the game. On the final whistle Parkes 55- CSU 7.

Next week Boars make the trip to Mudgee for a top of the table clash.

The Mighty Seconds Too Hot For Bathurst On A Bitterly Cold Saturday Afternoon

June 29, 2023 by Roxane Manley

The first score of the match went to Sam Ryan on the wing, with a 15m run to go over the line and score next to the posts. Brendan Bennett added the extras.

Jack Byrne as breakaway tackled with clinical efficacy. Toby Baigent and Tom Woods combined in the forwards to interrupt the CSU set moves.

Brendan Bennett was next to score bolting across the line and then he converted it.

CSU crossed with three minutes to go in the half. At the half time break Parkes held a 14-7 lead.

Returning to the field for the second half CSU had a change of pace and got the ball across the line. Parkes 14 – CSU 12.

Jonetani Koriovui used his leg strength to cross next to the posts. Again Bennett added the extras. Parkes 21 – CSU 12.

A penalty goal to CSU inch them closer to the Boars score Parkes 21 – CSU 15.

In the final minutes the Boars as a team rushed the line and were awarded for their efforts with a try to Rohan Kopp. Brendan Bennett converted. Final score Parkes 28 –CSU 15.

Next Saturday the Boars travel to GlenWillow Oval to face the Mudgee Wombats.

Forbes Heated Pool Set To Open

June 22, 2023 by Roxane Manley

The wait is almost over, with Forbes Shire Council handing over the pool to the organising committee.

This week, Forbes Shire Council completed the final handover of the newly upgraded indoor heated pool to the Committee.

Membership forms will be released on 1st July and the pool open day will be Thursday, 6th July between 4pm to 6pm for all the community to have a look. A BBQ will be open available on the day. Memberships can also be paid for at the open day and prices will be released early next week.

Thanks go to Forbes Shire Council staff and all of the local tradespeople for the work they put in over the past few months to get this fantastic facility completed for winter.

Special mention go to the following people; the late Mr Ian Macallum and his associates who founded the Heated Pool and worked tirelessly to keep this facility operating. To the late Mr Andrew McDonald who brought a wealth of knowledge to the committee, a well respected member that worked hard behind the scenes with grant funding and compliance. Also the biggest voice for the committee Mrs Dianne Decker OAM. Di would not take no for an answer from anyone wanting to ensure the upgrade suited all age groups and could be used for years to come. Due to health reasons Di had to step down from her role as President but played a big role with this upgrade.

Congratulations to the small committee of local residents who have worked really hard, and spent hours to ensure this facility was a fresh, functional space for our community.

If the community can be patient while the last few finishing touches are completed, we can’t wait to see you on opening day.

June 16, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Forbes District Soccer Junior Josie Mckenzie.

Forbes DSC player, Josie Mckenzie has been invited to the Football Australia 2010 Elite Invitation Game as part of FNSW and FFA girls talent identification pathways.

Elite Matches allow those players considered the most talented players in that state to play against each other in a ‘best v best’ environment, stretching players capabilities and highlighting their areas of strength and opportunities for improvement in a high intensity match. Football Australia want to extend the frequency of Elite Matches across the country as an additional Talent Identification method to help unearth players who show a high potential.
