On Saturday the Forbes golfers were led by junior player Liam Fraser in the Men’s Individual Stroke event. Liam finished ahead of a group of Div-1 players.

The Div-1 Winner was Terry Griffiths with 70 nett. He was well pleased with his score after a bogey, bogey start. Runner-up on count back was Dave Mylecharane also on 70 nett. He played early and watched his score remain on top until Terry posted his score.

The Div-2 was won by Liam Fraser with 69 nett. He had an unsteady start but then played consistently for his score. Runner-up was Nathan Roach on 71 nett. This was his first game for a while and showed he had not lost his touch.

The ball sweep went to 75 nett. The visitors included a big group from Dubbo on the annual ‘road trip south’. The equal best of these was Sam Letfallah and Hugh Graham on 71. Two of their group filled the last places in the field. Lost among those were Dave Naveau (Wellington) and Andrew Brownlow (Peak Hill). The NTP’s went to: 9th Paul Pymont; 18th Hamish Steel-Park. Girls tackle football has become incredibly exciting in recent years, and last weekend history was made for Forbes Magpies Junior Rugby League. We saw our first ever full girls tackle teams take the field, and what a show it was.

Their sportsmanship on and off the field was truly impressive, the encouragement of their teammates, and positive attitude is contagious. Bring on round 6!

Clear Winner For Wilf Hodges Trophy

May 8, 2025 by Roxane Manley

On the weekend the Mens golf participants were playing for the ‘Wilf Hodges Trophy’, sponsored by the Hodges Family. The event was contested by 54 visitors across an Individual Stableford event. The weather was perfect for good scoring but only a handful of players played to or bettered their handicap. The greens had maintained their pacey nature after the Mens Open the previous week which may have contributed to the results.

Winner of the ‘Wilf Hodges’ Trophy was Dave Mylecharane with 40 points. After a bogey start he played near flawless golf to finish a clear winner.

In the Stableford comp the Div-1 winner was Dave Mylecharane (40 pts). Despite two bogeys on the front-9 he turned on 18 points then carved up the back-9 to score 22 points. Runner-up was Adrian Matthews with 37 points. Scoring well on the front-9 but managing only 18 points on the back-9.

The Div-2 saw Jake Banks enter the winners circle, his 37 points was primarily due to his front-9 effort. Runner-up was Paul Pymont with an even handicap 36 points. He was slow on the front-9 but was warmed up for the back-9 where he managed 20 points.

The ball sweep went to 32 points on count back. Check in the Pro Shop to see if you were among the recipients. The NTP’s went to: 9th Reggie Murray; 18th Stephen Uphill. Both of them converted for a ‘2’ and were among the ten scored overall.

This weekend is the May Monthly Medal sponsored by Adept Plumbing. Sunday will have a Stableford Medley as a diversion from the ‘Mother’s Day’ celebrations.

Club Pays Tribute To Life Member Bruce Field

May 1, 2025 by Elvy Quirk

The late Bruce Field receiving his Life Membership in 2017

Sadly last week we said a final goodbye to one of our very valued members. Bruce Field passed away in the Forbes Hospital last Wednesday. He was 97 years of age and lived a very full life.

Bruce joined the Croquet Club in 2009 and he quickly became an accomplished player. He and his late wife Lorna became involved in the sport and both Bruce and Lorna played an active role. Bruce could be seen marking the croquet lawns, mowing and being the general odd-job man – the very reason Bruce was awarded Life Membership of the Club in 2017. His quick sense of humour always prevailed and it was unusual to hear Bruce complain as he always valued the companionship of others at Croquet. We will miss seeing his smiling face and to the family, the Executive and members of the Croquet Club extend their deepest sympathy.

In other news, on Anzac Day a wreath was laid for and on behalf of the Croquet Club by President Elvy. We celebrated World Croquet Day on Thursday 1 May with a game and a light lunch.
