Welcome back to Forbes Netball Saturday competition, after the school holiday break. There was very exciting news on the umpiring side for Forbes Netball over the school holidays, when Forbes NA umpire Aurella White was awarded her All Australia National B Umpire Badge at the Australian Invitational Youth Games at Maitland.

Aurella is one of the youngest umpires in the West/Central West Region, to be awarded her National B badge at the age of 14. The FNA Committee would like to congratulate Aurella, on this outstanding achievement. More news on Aurella’s journey in later editions.

Friday netball
Friday netball will continue today, from 5pm til 6pm for anyone who would like to join in the fun of skills and games. Players do not have to be registered for Saturday competition to play Friday netball, and the coaching is free to all participants.

Semi final rounds coming up
All coaches and players are reminded that the semi final series is coming up soon. Minor semis will be played on August 5, major semis will be played on August 12, finals will be played on August 19 and grand finals will be played on August 26.

Presentations will be held straight after the grand finals on August 26.

Forbes Netball At State Champs

The Forbes Netball Association representative 17U team played in the State Championships in Sydney over the long weekend.

The team won three games, had one draw and played 19 over three days to end 17th overall in one of the hallmark events of the NNSW calendar.

“The girls played great and really came together when it counted,” said coach Kristin Read. She said the team had been training hard starting at the end of last year. They played at four regional training carnivals in Orange, Dubbo, Cowra and in Forbes winning their division.

The Forbes Netball Association repre- sentative 17U team of 10 players are: Alyssa Godden (captain), Jessica Priest (vice captain), Sophie Cowan, Hannah Cudaj, Claire Maslin, Sarah O’Neil, Kate Hanley, Pypah Montgomery, Tanika Hill and Brooke Toole.

It was the 49th year of the NNSW State Championships with 69 associations from across NSW represented by 103 teams in six divisions.

Kristin thanked the parents, State Cham- pionships rep convenor – Melissa Cowan, manager – Kerrie Priest, primary carer – Sondra Godden, scorer – Coral O’Neil, bus driver – Gavin Montgomery, umpires – Jack Piercy and Leisa Kenny. Sponsors – Bunnings and MBR Clothing.

The Forbes netballers went wild dressing up in their crazy socks and clothes and sporting crazy hair to help raise funds for The Kids Cancer Project.

Fun prizes were awarded to players and teams in each division. The winners were:

Division 1 overall – Ellie Flick; best dressed – GiGi Stitt; best hair – Robyn Kenny and best team – Lightning.

NetSetGo overall – Chloe Tyack; best dressed – Tara Higgins; best hair – Charlotte Haggarty and best socks – Marnie Blake.

Division 2 overall – Ella Nicholls; best hair – Lauren Bate; best socks – Grace Crowley and best team – Magpies.

Division 3 overall – Andy Hodder; best hair – Katie Crouch; best socks – Isla Worland and Ella White and best team – Joeys.

Rules and Umpiring Session

A free rules and umpiring session will be held at the Forbes netball courts on Sunday, 18th June from 9 to 10:30am.

All representative players and Saturday and night competition players must attend. Also open to parents and national badged umpires.

It will be a once-off umpiring and rules information and update session, and an update for national badged umpires for the Australian Marist carnival from Monday, 19th June.

Netball Night Competition Finals Next Week

The finals of the Forbes Netball autumn night competitions for both mixed and ladies teams will be played on 7th June.

The two top teams on the point score ladder in both competitions will be in the final.

Best and Fairest awards will also be presented to a player in each competition. This award is judged by the umpires each week.

Presentations will be held immediately after each final is played.

Finals will be played at 6:30 and 7:30 as some ladies could be in both competitions.

Netballers Go Crazy For Cancer Research

Tomorrow all Forbes netballers will go crazy for cancer research when they join net- ball associations from all over the state to raise money for The Kids Cancer Project. Forbes Netball Association (FNA) signed up for the crazy hair and sock day with all play- ers in the Saturday competition dressing up.

Fun prizes will be awards in each division, from NetSetGo to divisions 1, 2 and 3, for the best crazy dressed players and best crazy dressed teams, with an overall prize awarded to the best from all the divisions.

Entry for the day is a gold coin donation, with a barbeque on offer. Donations of cooking are welcome. A donation bucket will also be available, and a 100 club.

Netball Carnival Attracts Hundreds

The Forbes Netball Association held a very successful all age carnival recently with more than 400 players from all over the Central West. Players aged from 10 years to open ladies played over 130 games of netball. The carnival was dominated by representative teams, using it as a training carnival for match practice for NNSW State and State Age Championships.

Results for the day were:
17 Rep division: winners Forbes 17 Rep; runners-up Blayney 17 Rep
15 Rep division: winners Blayney 15 Rep; runners-up Forbes 15 Rep
14 Rep division: winners West Wyalong 14s; runners-up Parkes 14 Rep
13 Rep division: winners Bathurst 13 De- velopment; runners-up Forbes 13 Rep
12 Rep division: winners Bathurst 12 De- velopment; runners-up Dynamite
11 years – A: winners Dubbo Pink; runners- up Leeton 11s
11 years – B: winners Dubbo Green; run- ners-up Bathurst Blue
Thank you to carnival convener, Marg Spackman, and all the helpers and parents setting up from 6:30am and packing up. Congratulations to all the Forbes players for participating and having fun. All players dis- played outstanding sportsmanship.

The Forbes Netball Autumn night competi- tions for mixed and ladies teams will con- tinue through term 2, with the finals played in June between the two top teams on the point score ladder in each division.

Players must all pay the annual registra- tion to FNA and NNSW and also the $40 per player per team competition levy. Team representatives must update their team sheets.

The Forbes Netbal Association regional carnival will be held on Sunday, 7th May. Age divisions start from 11 years to open ladies, and entries must be sent to the car- nival convenor, Marg Spackman.

Help will be needed in all areas for the day, including serving in the canteen and barbeque, putting up tents and setting up early Sunday morning and packing up at the end of the day.

Tomorrow is Bring a Friend day, when all players bring a friend who is new to netball Saturday competition. Opens will start at 9am, Net-
SetGo will continue each week at 10am, and the 10/11 years and 12/13 years will play at 11am. Anyone wanting to play in teams at 9am should contact Kerrie Priest. Mothers of boys and girls who have their children playing in the Saturday competition do not pay the competition fee of $40. All players must be registered with FNA, with the registration lasting the whole year. Teams for the younger ages groups, 10 to 13 years will be formed after tomorrow’s games. All players must have their names in by tomorrow.

The 17U team will compete in the NNSW State Championships over the June long weekend, and the 15 years team will com- pete in the NNSW State Age Championships on the first weekend of the July school holidays.

Kristin Read is the 17U team coach and assistant coach is Rebecca Roach. Isabelle Cowhan is the 15 years team coach.

Applications for the 12 and 13 years rep teams close on 7th March.

Players must be turning 12 or 13 years this year, and play in the local Saturday compe- tition. Robyn Kenny is the 13 years team coach, and Lyn Ford the 12 years team coach with Tasha Shaw as assistant coach.

Autumn night competitions for mixed and ladies teams started on Wednesday. The competitions will be played until the June long weekend, with the finals to be played on the Wednesday night after the long weekend. No competitions during the school holidays.

The Saturday competition will be starting soon. The competition age groups start with NetSetGo for 5-7 years skills, and 8-9 years competition.

Divisions for competitions are 10/11 years, 12/13 years and open for 14 years to open ladies.

Forbes Netball Notes

The FNA 17U representative team training starts on 23rd February and will continue every Tuesday and Thursday night until the Netball NSW State Championships in June. Coach Kristin Read and assistant coach Rebecca Roach are looking forward to coach- ing their first representative team together.

The FNA 15 years representative team will also start training on 23rd February with new coach Isi Cowhan.

All representative teams of 15, 13 and 12 years will play at the Netball NSW State Age Championships in July school holidays. The Provisional Grading has been re- leased with both the 15 and 13 years teams in Division 3.

Courses for coaching and umpiring have gone online. Enquiries for any coaching should be directed to Coach Convenor Ro- byn Kenny on 0407 235 326. Enquiries for any umpiring should be directed to Umpires Convenor Marg Spackman 0425 815 761.

The Netball NSW NetEd for the West/ Central West will be held at Orange on Saturday, 2nd April.
