Question of the Week?

November 5, 2015 by Maggi Barnard

Did you pick the winner of the Melbourne Cup?

Sue Uphill

“No, didn’t pick the winner. I backed Trip to Paris – it had a good trainer and thought I thought it may have been a surprise packet.” – Sue Uphill

Veronica and Debbie

“No, not even close. I backed Big Orange – it matched my outfit.” – Veronica Rebellato
“I have also wanted to go to Paris so I picked Trip to Paris.” – Debbie Tilley

Kylie and Bronte Watson

“Yes, it was a lucky joint decision that we backed the winner. Bronte picked Prince of Penzance in a trifecta and I thought I would put an each way bet on one and chose the right one.” – Kylie & Bronte Watson

How long have you lived in Forbes? I was enticed by a farmer to move to Forbes in 1993, 22 years ago.

What do you love about Forbes? Apart from the community, I love the beautiful historic buildings in the town and the picturesque Victoria Park and Lake area.

What are your hobbies/passions? My love of horses is an inspiration for my artwork which is my passion. Graphic design is my profession, and more than a job to me. Another interest I have is decorating horses.

Who would you love to have dinner with? John Fairfax – I would love to discuss culture and art promoting rural towns and communities. Coming a close second and third are Ed Sheeran and Matthew McConaughey.

Describe your dream holiday: Get a group of like minded friends together and go horse riding in the Australian Highlands for a week.

What is the biggest change you would like to see in the world? To let every child born in the world have access to two poems: “The Desiderata” by Max Ehrmann and “Oh the Places You’ll Go” by Dr Suess.

How long have you lived in Forbes? Most of my life.

What do you love most about Forbes? I love the general feel of the town. It is a
good community to live in.

What are your hobbies or other passions? Anything to do with the outdoors.

If you could have dinner with anyone, alive, dead or fictional, who would that be? Steve Jobs – I would love to pick his brain for tips on business success.

Describe your dream holiday: Anywhere, as long as I am outdoors and with family.

What is the biggest change you would like to see in the world? A cure for cancer and to get rid of illegal drugs

Question of the Week

October 29, 2015 by Maggi Barnard

Do you think Forbes Shire Council should merge with Weddin Shire Council to become “Fit For The Future”?

Joth King

“No I don’t think we need to. Forbes is doing ok on their own. I am not sold on the idea and am not sure how it would work and would hate to see local people lose jobs because of it.” – Joth King

Barry Read

“Yes I think we should merge with Weddin. The merge could assist both councils to become more sustainable and encourage town growth and prosperity in the future.” – Barry Read

Janet Callaghan

“I haven’t really heard much about the whole thing and it would be great if the community could get more information about it. I am happy to see the two councils merge if it will have a positive outcome and benefit the town.” – Janet Callaghan

Question of the Week

Are you prepared for bushfire season?

penelope

“Yes, I’m definitely prepared. I have implemented a bushfire plan on the family farm and always make sure Dad has got the tanks full and the pumps ready for action if needed.” – Penelope McGufficke

janelle

“Apart from cleaning out the gutters each year, I haven’t really done much at all. I quite often think about doing a more structured plan but never seem to get around to it. I do have all of our important documents stored together for easy access.” – Janelle Berger

joe

“I don’t have a written plan but always keep the yard and gutters clear of rubbish and debris, and keep hoses attached to all taps. I keep all of my important documents together and they are easy to grab if there was an emergency.” – Joe Doyle

Question of the Week?

What do you think about the recent leadership spill in the Liberal Party and the change in Prime Minister?

DSC_0856

“I don’t think it was fair the way it was done. Let’s hope it has turned out for the better.” – Molly Neilson at The Sunshine Club.

DSC_0854

“I feel like it’s so important for us to be interested in our country’s leader, for us now and for our children’s future. However it doesn’t seem to matter who our leader is, we still have the same issues arising time and time again. For example refugees, same sex marriage, child care funding, I could go on forever.” – Trudi Smart at Little Extras Lifestyle.

“I personally think that with the way the Government is going in general, the whole country is in trouble.” – Jayne Whitworth at News On Rankin.
