Successful Forbes Men’s Golf Open

May 23, 2019 by Maggi Barnard

The Forbes Men’s Open was played last Sunday, preceded by the 4BBB Stableford on Saturday. Both days had good fields with the Open contested by over 160 players and the 4BBB by 80 players.

The Forbes Open Overall Scratch winner, and winner of a coveted regional qualifying spot in the NSW Open, was Wil Arnold (Penrith), who finished with 70. Blade Gadd (Concord) and Reid Brown (Pymble) finished on 1-under (71), keeping it quite tense to the very end.

The B-Grade Scratch went to Paul Pymont (86) on count back. Ash Tucker earned the Handicap winner prize with a nett 69, with Terry Griffiths Handicap runner-up on 74 nett. The C-grade Scratch went to Frank Donohoe (100) also a count back. The Handicap win went to Geoff Betland on 76 nett, with Ralph Baker Handicap runner-up on 76 nett.

Many thanks to the sponsors, to the Pro Shop staff, to Beryl and Lynnie Roberts and to the many volunteers for helping to make this a very successful event.

The 4BBB Stableford on Saturday saw high-calibre results from the locals. The Scratch Stableford winners were John Betland and Peter Dawson with 42 points.

Runners-up were Mark Collits and Steve Betland with 40 points.

The Handicap Stableford winners were Ralph Baker and Graham Newport (47 points) from runners-up Stuart Thomas and Don Ridley (46 points). The ball sweep went to 42 points on count back.

The NTP’s went to: 9th – T Tisdell (Wagga Wagga); 18th – P Dawson.

The first week of the Winter 3’s competition recorded some good scores. Ash Tucker was the winner of the voucher (nett 30.5), while the ball winners (to 36 nett on c/b) were: A Tucker, R Taylor, E Coombs, B Besgrove, T Rousell, Som.

The first Junior Coaching Programme run by Pro Adrian Lees on Sunday had a good group. Spread the word to anybody you know that might like to join. Contact the Forbes Pro Shop on 6851 1554 or Adrian on 0423 356 670 for full details.
