Weekly Croquet Results

February 7, 2020 by Maggi Barnard

Golf Croquet Tuesday, 28th January
Once again there was a great roll up of 34 players despite the hot weather. Such dedication is a good indicator that club members are certainly addicted to the game, by enjoying it despite the unfriendly weather. There were four winners of all three games. The winners were Neville Spry, Bob Murray, Merv Langfield and Lyn Simmonds. J Liebich and R Pols had a great win of 10 /3 over D Scott, J Ellis. L Simmonds, A Todd 11. H Brown, R Burridge 2. N Spry, R Burridge 9. C Liebich, M Spry 4. J Allegri 9, T Thomson 4, B Murray, N Spry 9, J Rubie, M Smith 4. There were also 13 close games of 7/6 and some very good jump shots were played by confident players. Confidence definitely helps to win the game.

Aussie Croquet Saturday, 1st February
After a very warm night, 24 members came out on to the courts and managed to play three games before the heat set in again. Three winners were Barry White and Colleen Liebich. Kevin Rubie partnered Colleen and the game looked all but lost when Bob Murray and Ray Burridge swept around the court with Kevin playing a great defender and keeping Bob from pegging out, winning 14/13. Jill Rubie and John Allegri also had a close game against Kevin Rubie and Robyn Pols 14/13. Robyn loves this game and enjoys getting rid of the oppositions ball. It does take a good deal of concentration to place the balls in a position so as not to aid the opposition.
