Swimming Carnival A Success

March 22, 2018 By Maggi Barnard

Forbes High School held their annual swimming carnival during February. The day was a huge success, with many students participating and challenging themselves to do their best. The school spirit and the house leaders’ enthusiasm to encourage all students to do their best and get involved, was commendable.

Senior students led the way with a novelty race to begin the day’s proceedings and ending the carnival was another highlight, which is the annual belly flop competition.

Tara Morrison, Forbes High School Sports Coordinator was extremely happy with the day’s events. “Our students really stood out this year, especially our senior students stepping up and entering all races. It really was fantastic to see.”

Students who swam on the day competed against one another, not only to get personal best times but also for the title of Age Champion.

Congratulations to the following students for winning the Age Champion groups: 12yr Girl – Laura Vonthien, 12yr Boy – Michael Casey, 13yr Girl – Bridie Hughes, 13yr Boy – Jaylin Ware, 14yr Girl – Sarah Nightingale, 14yr Boy – Austin Brown, 15yr Girl – Matilda Langham, 15yr Boy – Stuart Shaw, 16yr Girl – Chloe Howarth, 16yr Boy – James Taylor, 17yr + Girl – Savannah Lee Bevan, and 17yr + Boy – Lachlan McWilliams.

The overall winning house for this year’s swimming carnival was Gamilaroi, who proved to not only be great swimmers but an amazing cheer squad!

Eight students were successful in making it through to the Dubbo trials. Congratulations to Laura Vonthien, Jaylin Ware, Deegan Weaver, Kendi -Lee Morley- Diggins, Blair Barnes, Stuart Shaw and William Stamp.

School Principal Jason Nottingham said: “It’s great to see our students having a great day out representing their school and individual houses. Our staff did an amazing job at organising, coordinating and supervising the day, which I am really thankful for. We really do have dedicated and caring staff at the school.”
