Sanderson Day Success

April 21, 2023 by Short Putt

Steve Grallelis, Veronica Rebellato and Peter Markey, ready to play their last hole.

Last Saturday, 15th April the golf competition was the 20th Sanderson Memorial Day, a 4-Person Ambrose Medley. The field of 67 played in warm but cloudy conditions, with most of the heat being in the scoring.

The Overall winners were the group of B Ashton, K Tyne, K Biles and L Biles who combined well to score a nett 53 ½. They scored ten birdies, one eagle and a bogey in their exploits.

The Runners-up were the group of J Bernardi, J Hall, J Mallon and J Coulthurst who managed a nett 56 1/8. They had the best Scratch score of the day, a 60, but had less handicap to play with.

The NTP’s went to: 9th – Men: G Webb, Ladies: S Crosby; 18th – Men: J Brett, Ladies: nil. The Pro Shop Super-pin, on the third green, went to Frank Donohoe with a shot to 15cm, and yet again came very close to a hole-in-one.

This year a ball sweep was calculated, going to 57 ¼ nett, with three groups being

awarded. Balls will be credited to the player’s accounts.

Due to the timing, the number of visitors was less than usual. Thanks to Louise and Wayne Harriott for attending. Another visitor was Peter Markey (Gloucester) who enjoyed his day. Again, because of the timing there were only a few ‘maximum handicappers’, with most of them unable to help their team much.

This Saturday, 22nd April the competition is the ‘Kristie Carpenter Perpetual Trophy’, an 18-hole Individual Stableford sponsored by T Griffiths and V Rebellato.

Then on Sunday, 23rd April there is a Stableford Medley. A Stableford Medley is scheduled for Anzac Day.

Players are reminded of the Vets ‘Week of Golf’, the Ladies Open and a run of Mens Opens being played throughout May.
