Sand-Grass Greens Championships Very Popular

The Sand-Grass Green Championships attracted over 90 players from 21 country clubs and three city clubs spread across the state. The two-day event was played with 18 holes each at Grenfell and Forbes golf courses. This make-up provides a challenge for the players as some have never ventured onto sand greens before. The prize winners were: Other prize winners, all for Stableford points: Ladies 36-
Hole Scratch winner – Chantell Greaves (Dunnedo) 48 points; Ladies 36-Hole Scratch runner-up – Margaret Naseby (Coleambally) 43 pts; Ladies 36-Hole Nett winner – Helen Moriaty (Cowra) 70 pts; Ladies 36-Hole Nett runner-up – Christine Dobel (Cowra) 69 pts; Round 1 Nett winner – Valarie Forsyth (Grenfell) 35 pts; Round 2 Nett winner – Debbie Tilley (Forbes) 35 pts. Mens 36-Hole Scratch winner – Mark Hale (Mudgee) 48 pts; Men’s 36-Hole Scratch runner-up – John Betland (Forbes) 64 pts; Men’s 36-Hole Nett winner – Paul Friend (Peak Hill) 78 pts; Men’s 36-Hole Nett runner- up – John Hockings (Grenfell) 39 pts c/b; Round 1 Nett winner – Barry Green
(Grenfell) 39 pts; Round 2 Nett winner – Ben Glover (Harden) 36 c/b pts.

The Team prize went to Grenfell – Denis Smith, Jan Myers, Virginia Drogemuller and Grant Simpson with 201 pts. For those unable to travel to Grenfell, there was an 18-hole Stableford event at Forbes contested by 35 players. The A-Division was won by Rob Webb with 38 points, followed Bob Borger on count back.

The B-Division winner was Peter Tisdell and runner-up was Tom Edols. The ball sweep went to 34 points, while the NTP’s went to: 9th – Paul Pymont; 18th – Peter Dawson.
