Great Day At Golf

July 25, 2019 by Maggi Barnard

The Saturday comp was a 2-Person Ambrose, generously sponsored by Brine Cure (the local tannery). The good weather ensured good scores among the 48 players.

The Scratch winners were D Bayley/J Betland who finished with 63. The pairing of G Webb/B Doyle were declared scratch runners-up with their neat par 72. The handicap winners were P Dawson/T Callaghan, who used their 2.5 handicap to reduce their scratch 63 score to a score of 60.5 nett. Handicap runners-up, on count back, were I Bown/A Callaghan with their 64 ¼.

The ball sweep went to 66 nett, going to: 60.5 – Dawson/T Callaghan; 61.75 – Bayley/J Betland; 64.25 – Bown/A Callaghan, Judge/Grallelis; 64.5 – G Webb/ Doyle; 66 – Rhodes/Zannes. The NTP’s went to: 9th – P Cowhan; 18th – G Falvey.

In these partnered formats team work is very important, but the occasional individual brilliance can help. Craig Barrett’s chip shot on the 10th was described as wizardry, but he needs work before it can be consistent wizardry.

On Sunday the play-off for the Foursomes Scratch Championship was held. It was very close throughout, but in the end the pairing of John Betland and Shane Sallaway with 76 finished one shot better than the runners-up Steve Betland and Mark Collits on 77. They each turned after 9-holes on 37 Scratch.

Thanks to D Bayley for being the Marker, and who was treated to both excellent shots and sometimes poor chipping.

The field for the Sunday Stableford Medley enjoyed great conditions. The winner was Andrew Dukes with 36 points, on count back from runner-up Brett Thomas. The ball sweep went to 31 with Ethel Coombs earning a ball.

The NTP’s went to: 9th – Andrew Dukes; 18th – Mike Spice.

The Winter 3’s Week 10 scores were not quite as good as in previous weeks. This week the Voucher goes to – G Besgrove (30), but only just. Ball winners were: 30 – G Besgrove; 31.5 – Som; 34 – S Grallelis; 34.5 – B Drabsch; 35 – J Cripps, Ben.

A reminder that the LVDGA Vets Fees are due. Lynnie Roberts has caught many but there are still some outstanding players, so make sure you have $10 with you when you see him next.

Over the next few weeks Opens will be played at: 28 July: Burcher Open; 4 August: Albert Open and Temora Open; 11 August:

Trundle Open

This weekend we have the Kristie Carpenter Perpetual Trophy. This is an Individual Stableford Medley format, with prizes for Handicapped and Non-Handicapped players.
