Denim Street Zips Past Rivals In Record Time

October 15, 2021 by Maggi Barnard

Denim Street’s run last Saturday by Swedish born apprentice Julia Presits in the Can Assist Benchmark 50 Handicap over 1100m was one for the ages when the $7 chance won in 1.03.38 beating the previous record held by Destiny Deauxville. Japingka (Zara Lewis, $5) and My Shiromi (Brendan Ward, $10) filled the minors.

Traditionally, last Saturday is usually marked as one of the Forbes Jockey Club’s premier events – Spring Race Day and one of the meets of the NSW Country calendar year but no punters and only essential workers were permitted trackside. It didn’t deter owners and trainers with 91 nominations for the day allowing a seven-race program instead of six.

Bathurst trained De Forerunner won the 1200 metres John “Tractor” Rennick Life Membership Maiden Plate from Flashlin and Joeycee. The following race saw Then win the 1400 metres Forbes Jockey Club Maiden Plate while Renzulli won the last.

Son Of Spartacus and Well Decorated both ran 1.16.35 to break the 1300 metres track record held by Mask Cheval for over 16 years in separate races – in scintillating displays on a day of quick times.
