Boars Ladies Unlucky Against Mudgee

April 21, 2023 by Roxane Manley

The Boars Women have been putting in the hard work at training and are ready for a big game at home this weekend against Wellington.

In the first round of the women’s games, the Boars were unlucky against Mudgee, however, with a young team, the Boars Ladies should hold their head high.

Boars opened their scoring with a try scored by Taylor Draper after a fabulous 60m run from Cailin Westcott. Halfway through the second half, again Parkes made a big break with Maely Macgregor, another player in the very first year of rugby, bustled the ball up through the center, driving through the defense and scoring under the post. The conversion was easy.

The Boars Ladies are still learning their set plays, and may have been a little overwhelmed facing the reigning premiers in their first match. The final score Mudgee 27 to Parkes 12. We are looking forward to big things coming with this team as these young girls develop their skills and learn the nuances of the game.

Players player and two points to Alice Maier, three points Maely Macgregor and one point to Cailin Westcott.

This Saturday when rugby returns to Spicer Oval, the ladies kick off at 12.30pm, against Wellington. So grab a mate or two and head along to support the team.

Parkes Spacemen 2023 Season Launch

April 14, 2023 by Roxane Manley

The Parkes Spacecats are gearing up for a big 2023 season.

The Parkes Spacemen Rugby League Club held their 2023 season launch at the Parkes Leagues Club on Thursday, 6th April.

Club President Tony Dwyer was pleased with with the number of people who attended on the night, saying “We put it on for the players, we organise the alcohol and food. It is a thank you to everyone for their hard work in the pre-season and to let everyone know what’s coming up for the season.”

The 2023 season kicks off for the Spacemen at Pioneer Oval this Sunday, 16th April. First Grade will take on Orange Hawks, while the other three grades will take on Cowra.

The first grade team are going into round one with a win over Orange Hawks a few weeks ago in a trial match that took place in Orange. “Parkes go in with a bit of a leg up, but it could be a different story on the day as both teams will be stronger,” said Tony.

Captain/coach Chad Porter will help select the sides this week based on form at training and during the three trial games against Thelemere, Orange and Wellington. Tony’s hope for the 2023 season is that the Spacies take it week by week and hopefully get the job done at the end of the year.

If you don’t already have plans for this Sunday, head along to Pioneer Oval to cheer on the Spacies in all four grades.

April 14, 2023 by Roxane Manley

The grow in at Parkes golf course, is coming along nicely, even the turtle’s are keen to see the new greens. New drone photos of the course development are available on the Parkes Golf Club website.

There were only four golfers to equal or better the stableford par score, with the Ward boys Ian and James battling out for first prize with Ian getting a rare win over James with a 41 point haul beating James by 3.

Anthony Riach had a 37 point haul with Peter Bristol on 36. Anthony was the only player to score in the 70’s with a 75 on the day then 5 back to James Ward and Blake Smith on 80.

In the ladies’ event Cath Coates survived a countback to win with 32 points. Cath has settled into the Parkes course since arriving from Sydney and no doubt will enjoy the updated course when it arrives.

Some of the older gents played well in the wind and cold with Reg Davison and Graham Cooke firing solid 34s and John Pearce, Rod Luyt and Tom Delmenico carding 33s.

The Nearest The Pins this week were – on the Harvey Norman 11th won Kath Jeffress on 288cm, the Westlime 15th won by Cath Coates on 510cm and the 18th won by Anthony Riach on 85cm.

Forbes Platypi Name 1st Grade Side To Take On Cowra

April 14, 2023 by Roxane Manley

The Forbes Platypi were dominant in their third pre-season trial game agains the Hall Bushrangers R.F.C scoring 11 tries to 1. The ladies played a hard fought game coming from behind to finish on top 17-10.

This Saturday, 15th April the Forbes Platypi will play their first game of the season at home against Cowra. Following flood damage to the grounds last year, it has been a slow recovery but things are looking better and are ready ahead of the first match up at home.

A solid team has been named for this Saturday’s game, and first grade assistant coach Chris said, “There are a few guys that have trialed really well and they have been given the opportunity because they have shown the commitment that is required”.

“We’ve got a lot of new faces, and so far we have been focusing on trying to get some combinations together and trialing guys in different positions.”

It is a six team competition that will be very competitive. Last year, Forbes missed out on making the finals by one point, which should provide some motivation for the players going into this season.

Charlie French has shown he more than deserves the honour of being named captain and the same can be said for co-captain Dan Sweeney.

The Forbes Platypi would like to thank and welcome the 2023 sponsors. The Forbes Platypi welcome back Acheson’s Mitre 10 Forbes as first grade team sponsor. Joining them on the jerseys this year are Forbes Automotive Services, Johnston Rural Group, Newell’s Contracting and Hazell & Field Accountants and Advisors.

The second grade team sponsor is Lachlan Valley Vets Forbes/Grenfell. Joining them on the jerseys this year are Gundamain Pastoral Co, Hazell & Field Accountants and Advisors, AGnVET Services and Hughes & Co. Lawyers & Conveyancing.

The colts sponsors for 2023 are AgriWest Rural Pty Ltd. Joining them on the jerseys will be Kevin Miller Whitty Lennon & Co – Forbes, Newell’s Contracting Lachlan Valley Vets Forbes/Grenfell and Hazell & Field Accountants and Advisors.
