Life Long Path As An Elvis Tribute Artist For Sean Luke Spiteri

January 7, 2026 by Roxane Manley

Parkes can get pretty hot, so when Sean isn’t performing you can catch him relaxing by the pool, recharging for his next show.

For Sean Luke Spiteri Elvis has always been a huge part of his life, and in 2025 he celebrated his 25 year anniversary as an Elvis Tribute Artist. “Not a day goes by in the week, when I don’t listen, or watch, or talk about Elvis,” said Sean Luke.

“My passion for Elvis actually started when I was about three years old. I’d watch his performances and something just clicked.

It was the 1968 Comeback Special, his energy, the voice, the charisma, he captivated me straight away.”

Born and raised in Melbourne, when Sean was young he would constantly perform for friends and family, but his first proper show didn’t happen until he was 12. He still remembers it clearly, “It was at the Copacabana International nightclub in Fitzroy. There were over 400 people in the crowd, and there I was, 12 years old, dressed in my first professional Elvis jumpsuit, doing a full show.

They even paid me $150 for the gig.”

“My first ever Parkes Elvis Festival was back in 2004 when I was 16, and over the years I’ve been lucky enough to experience just about everything there. I’ve performed on the Main Stage at Cooke Park in front of more than 5,000 people, had my own featured shows at the Parkes Services Club, and performed in the main showroom at the Parkes Leagues Club. Parkes has given me so many special memories.”

Sean Luke Spiteri will be performing live at the Amazing Forbes Street Breakfast in Templar St Forbes, Friday 9 January from 8am8.45am, and at multiple locations across Parkes during the Parkes Elvis Festival.

Bear’ at the 2026 Parkes Elvis Festival. A long-time fan of Elvis, Humphrey can’t wait to ‘shake, rattle and roar’ as he and friends perform their ‘bearyspecial’ all-singing-and-dancing tribute to the King of Rock and Roll on the Cooke Park main stage at 11am, Friday 9 January.

The show promises five popular Elvis songs, tied together with Humphrey’s trademark humour and playful discovery in a memorable storyline for all ages. Dean Vegas Has Performed Around The World As Elvis

January 7, 2026 by Roxane Manley

Dean Vegas has travelled the world but says “There is something special about performing in your home country (Australia).”

Dean Vegas grew up in Sydney’s housing commission area of Mt Druitt. He went to Dunheved High School and started his first job at the abattoirs in Sydney. He sang his first rendition of an Elvis song at his school play ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ where he performed ‘Rubberneckin’ which he has since added to his repertoire of Elvis songs.

Dean has since gone on to perform in Las Vegas, New Zealand, China, Sweden, Canada, Dubai, Norfolk Island, Lebanon, Malaysia, and clubs and casinos across Australia.

Tupelo is the birthplace of Elvis where Dean was given the key to the city by the Mayor of Tupelo. “That was an unbelievable feeling. I couldn’t believe that I was the first person in the world to receive the key after Elvis himself. I thought I had died and gone to heaven.”

This year at the Parkes Elvis Festival Dean will mainly be performing the MC work. “I am performing a 30 minute set on Saturday, and I will also be singing a couple of Gospel songs on Sunday and I will be officiating the Elvis Wedding renewal on Sunday. I am looking forward to seeing all the beautiful couples there.”

“Parkes is being recognised all over the world. It’s an amazing festival and it keeps growing, it rates as one of the best in the world and that’s all credit to how the festival is run and to the Elvis fans that make it so special.” Dean said.

When Dean is not performing he organises tours, where he takes people around the world. They travel while meeting new friends and seeing new destinations. So far, Dean has organised tours to the USA, Canada, China, Parkes Elvis Festival, Thailand, Las Vegas, Norfolk Island. Tallangatta 50’s Festival, Port Pirie and Gracelands to name a few.

Wild Summer Fun At Taronga Western Plains Zoo

December 18, 2025 by Roxane Manley

Did you know that Toronga is a not-for-profit and every dollar you spend helps save wildlife. What are you waiting for? Start planning your trip to Taronga Western Plains Zoo this holidays

New arrivals are making a splash at Taronga Western Plains Zoo – NSW’s Best Major Tourist Attraction – this summer. The Dubbo Zoo, which claimed the gong at the recent NSW Tourism Awards, has welcomed four Black-handed Spider Monkey babies, three African Lion cubs, two Quokka joeys and a critically endangered Scimitar-horned Oryx calf this year.

“Lion cubs Kaari, Mzuri and Nguvu have turned into quite the handful for parents Marion and Lwazi as well as their four big sisters,” said Director Steve Hinks. “They love playing with and pouncing on their siblings, as well as anything they find in their exhibit from balls to sticks and even tree roots!” The best time to see the cubs is between 10am and 10:30am.

The Black-handed Spider Monkey troop has welcomed four new arrivals to the Primate Islands on Savannah Lake, and the awesome foursome can be spotted from Cafe Wild. The best time to see the troop is at the Spider Monkey feed between 12:30pm and 1pm daily.

The final new arrival is a Scimitar-horned Oryx calf. “This calf is a fantastic little ambassador for his species, which is a true conservation success story. Once extinct in the wild, Scimitar-horned Oryx were reintroduced to their native Chad by a coalition of zoos from the USA and Europe in recent years and have since been reclassified as critically endangered,” Mr Hinks said.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo is open every day of the year including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. All tickets are valid for two days and include access to more than 10 free keeper activities, The Waterhole waterplay area, Waterhole Cafe and Frozen Coke Kiosk between 10am and 3pm. You can buy tickets online at taronga.org.au

As Christmas Draws Near, There’s A Particular Kind Of Hush

December 11, 2025 by Roxane Manley

Church lawns fill with folding chairs for carols, kids rehearse their nativity lines with tea towels on their heads, and once again we pause at the old, beautiful story of a baby born in a stable — God choosing the simple and the small to show us He is with us.

At Kerin Health, the lights are still on. The tinsel on the front desk is slightly crooked.

Someone’s brought in shortbread. The tree in the corner is looking a little droopy after a month of being “reorganised” by many toddlers – mostly my own two-year-old, a tiny interior decorator with very big opinions.

Most mornings begin the same way — a deep breath at the door, mustering energy for another day amidst the juggle of school presentation nights and Christmas parties.

We wouldn’t have it any other way. Because between the carols and the chaos, there are quieter moments. A farmer coming in straight from the paddock, hat in hand, finally making time for his sore shoulder. A Mum in thongs and a messy bun, baby on one hip, whispering that she’s not just tired, she’s overwhelmed. An older gent who “hates a fuss”, leaving his appointment standing taller, with a joke for the girls at the front desk.

These are the stories of this year. Of bodies worked hard and hearts stretched thin. Of neighbours checking in. Of country people doing what they’ve always done — showing up for each other.

Christmas, for Kerin Health, is less about perfect tables and more about full ones.

Less about having everything “sorted” and more about being together, sharing food, stories and second helpings.

Our team will be taking a break over Christmas to rest with our own families, so the clinic will be closed for appointments during that time, reopening in early January refreshed and ready for a big year ahead.

Behind the scenes, there are plans on whiteboards, new faces joining the staff, and some exciting announcements coming in the new year — more support for rural families, more women’s health and pregnancy services, more ways to care for the bodies that carry our stories.

From all of us at Kerin Health: thank you for trusting us with your aches, your tears, your hard days and your hopeful ones. We can’t wait to show you what’s next.

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas In Forbes

December 4, 2025 by Roxane Manley

The festive season has officially begun in Forbes, with Christmas lights now illuminating the CBD. This year, Lachlan Street comes alive with a vibrant canopy of twinkling lights and a festive installation on the Templar Street roundabout. Victoria Park shines with four large-scale displays, including a brand-new three-metre star. And over at Town Hall, a refreshed Christmas tree design now graces the iconic balcony.

Mayor Phyllis Miller OAM said “There’s nothing quite like seeing the town centre come alive with Christmas spirit. The lights bring a wonderful sense of excitement to Forbes, and they’re a reminder of the magic this time of year brings,” Mayor Miller said.

“The lights create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for family outings, seasonal celebrations and late-night shopping.”

The decorations complement the range of festive activities scheduled throughout December, including the Rotary Ipomoea Christmas Tree Festival, Forbes Christmas Festival, Carols by Candlelight, as well as the Town Hall Christmas Projection.

Forbes Shire Council wishes everyone a joyful and safe Christmas season and invites the community to enjoy the festive atmosphere throughout December.

Thirteenth Christmas Tree Festival

December 4, 2025 by Roxane Manley

Rotary Club of Forbes Ipomoea members are delighted to be coordinating their 13th annual Christmas Tree Festival, to be held once again at Forbes’s majestic Town Hall.

Held annually on the first weekend of December, the event has been a great way to start the Christmas season each year. The Town Hall was a Christmas wonderland in 2024 with over 120 entries.

A big difference this year, will be $300 prize money on offer for both best Nativity and best Christmas tree. Judging of the best nativity and tree will take place for the first time by an independent judge.

Members of the public will be able to vote for their favourite entries within the hall, with the entry that has the most votes by the end of the weekend also receiving a $300 prize.

The proceeds raised from this event in 2024 were donated to Havannah House in Forbes, enabling the installation of a security system throughout Havannah House.

This year Havannah House will again be the beneficiary of funds raised from the three day festival.

Entries for the Festival can still be delivered to the Town Hall on Friday 5 December from 7am to 12.30pm.

This year the doors open for viewing 1pm to 5pm Friday 5th December, 9am to 5pm Saturday 6 December and Sunday 7 December from 9am to 2pm.

This year’s event has been made possible thanks to sponsorship from Forbes Shire Council and a Club’s grant from Club Forbes.
