Be Seen @ Regional League With P&DNA

A huge congratulations to our Parkes Opens team who competed at Regional League over the last couple of days in Orange.

 


These ladies played hard all weekend with some close scores, and earned themselves a place in the finals.

 


The team played well and placed fourth overall – a mas­sive accomplishment. Well done ladies!

Be Seen @ Regional League With Forbes Netball

The Forbes Netball Open Representative team played outstanding netball to finish runner-up to Dubbo, in the West/Central West Regional League competition at the weekend. 

The team played rounds over Saturday and Sunday, with two wins and a draw in round one, and a much improved team finished round two with four wins and a loss. 

This put Forbes into the semifinals against Blayney, where the Forbes team again played outstanding skilled netball to defeat Blayney 17-13 to progress to the grand final against Dubbo.

Students, families and friends attended PHS open day last week. It was a great opportunity to see the facilities and meet the amazing staff and student leaders.

 


Each faculty had rooms open with interactive activities to see what High School is all about.

 


Parkes High School P&C members provided the BBQ, and the schools SRC students conducted the tours.

During term one, Year 8 are continuing their study of Non Elective Music. Initially, Year 8 studied the various styles of Notation ranging from Graphic Notation to Traditional Notation.

 


The students are currently writing compositions and reflection statements for their first assessment task.

 


Over the last few lessons, Year 8 have started their Ukulele unit. Learning to play the C major scale, various melodies including Baby Shark and chordal patterns to accompany a variety of popular pieces such as, The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

Parkes Que Club Inc held a two course luncheon on Sunday, 9 March to celebrate International Women’s Day.

 


The luncheon was held at the Parkes Services Club, where there was entertainment, guest speakers, prizes, raffles and event stall holders.

Haylee Redfern was announced the 2024 Forbes Sportsperson of the Year. Haylee is a world cham­pion four times over and the holder of a world record after the WKSF kettlebell world champion­ships.

 


Andrew Little won Senior Sportsperson of the Year. Andrew has competed in the 2024 NSW Championship this year, attending Sydney Drag­way each month in his Camaro to race in Super Sedan.

 


Annabelle Teague has won Junior Sportsperson of the Year and Annabelle is a young Lawn Bowls enthusiast who is making a name for herself in the sport.

TAFE NSW Parkes: Last week, TAFE NSW Parkes hosted an information ses­sion with Jordan, from Services Australia, on-hand to discuss services and payments available to students. Participants enjoyed a lovely morning tea, beautifully put togeth­er by Leanne Riley. If you are a student that was unable to make the session, and you have some questions around Centrelink payments while studying, please reach out and we can put you in contact with the right people.
