Our Bloke – Damian Walsh

March 3, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Damian Walsh

Where were you born? Parkes, New South Wales.

Were you named after anyone? No. However it’s a pretty awesome name hey!

Which of your accomplishments are you most proud of? The only accomplishment I’m proud of is being such an awesome person, 365 days per year.

What historical moment stands out most in your memory? I’d have to say, living through two flood events, which were both one in 100 year floods, was the biggest historical moment I’ve ever come across. However, Messi winning the world cup last year was pretty big too.

What’s the single best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, its about learning to dance in the rain.

What’s the greatest risk you’ve ever taken? I don’t take risks, Risks are risky.

What are the three things you would take to a deserted island? A fishing rod, camping chair and an esky.

If you had to spend $10,000 today, how would you spend it? Well, Blue Sky would see a decent chunk of that.. but I’d probably buy the missus something nice too.

When are you happiest? When I’m with my kids.

Western Youth League Competition

March 3, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Players paired up and practicing some ball work during training for the Western Youth League Competition.

Parkes soccer players have been training as part of the Lachlan team to comete in a pre-season competition against larger centers like Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst, Cowra, Mudgee/Lithgow in an upcoming Gala at Goulburn.

The Lachlan team consists of players from Parkes, Forbes, Condobolin, Cowra and Yeoval. The formation of the Lachlan team was important to give the youth in these smaller towns the opportunity to play.

Drills are an important part of skill development and fitness.

Do you know what Parkes was called before it was officially named Parkes in 1873?

March 3, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Len Swamy: Bushmans.

Steve Langlois: Currajong.

Annabelle Teague: No idea.

ANSWER: Originally named Currajong, it was renamed Busmans before finally being called Parkes.

What are you doing to escape the heat?

February 24, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Fiona Lovette: Staying close to the air conditioner, and when outside I’m donning my “Body Cooler”.

Telisha Phillips: It’s all about the air con, loads of ice blocks and the pool when we can find the time.

Slade Moore: Sitting in front of the fan, going swimming and lots of icy cold water.

If you could board a plane right now, where would you fly to?

February 17, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Joel Coble: Japan for sure, it’s just a place that interests me.

Ellora Brown: Definitely South Africa, we loved it there when we visited and we have friends who live there, so we are hoping to go back.

Ricki-Lea Miller: Woolongong, because I have a lot of family there and I also really love the beach.

Whats the greatest risk you’ve ever taken? Wayyyy too many to even choose!

What are the three things you would take to a deserted island? A dog, a knife and a beer…or maybe just three dogs.

If you had to spend $10,000 today, how would you spend it? Tattoos, shoes, Zappos and Korean BBQ.

When are you happiest? On the floor behind the chair sharing a laugh!

What is your favourite movie and why?

February 5, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Josie May: Blended. Basically any Adam Sandler movie but Blended might be my favorite.

Jourdain Girot-Serplet: 8 Mile. I am a massive Eminem fan and he’s actually not a bad actor.

Archie Quirk: American Sniper. It’s a good action movie and i’ve seen it at least 20 times

Tom Grayson: Grown Ups. Good story line and Adam Sandler movies are always funny.
