Be Seen Boys To The Bush

July 23, 2026 by Roxane Manley

Last term, Luke and his team from the BttB Forbes shed took a group of boys from Ungarie Central School out of the classroom and into the community, one day a week for five weeks.

From fishing and farming to team-building activities and a behind-the-scenes tour of Evolution Mining’s Cowal operation, the boys got stuck into a range of hands-on experiences and had an absolute ball along the way.

Programs like this wouldn’t be possible without the support of Evolution Mining, local farmers, business owners and community members who generously give their time and open their doors to our boys.

As part of their NAIDOC Week celebrations, Parkes Public School were fortunate to welcome Cheryl Thomas to demonstrate the traditional process of making Johnny cakes.

Each class had the opportunity to learn about how Johnny cakes are made before enjoying a taste with their choice of golden syrup, jam or butter. The students were highly engaged throughout the session.

Some of the K–2 students returned to the Wiradjuri Garden during playtime to continue their conversations with Cheryl and learn even more. A huge thank you to Cheryl for generously sharing her knowledge, time and culture.
