Not All Multifocal Lenses Are Created Equal

April 3, 2025 by Roxane Manley

Multifocal lenses are a game-changer for those needing vision correction at multiple distances, but not all multifocal lenses are the same. Many people assume that any multifocal lens they purchase will provide clear, comfortable vision, yet there can be vast differences in design, quality, and lens technology that can have a huge impact for the wearer.

Off-the-shelf or budget multifocal lenses often use outdated technology, leading to smaller reading zones, more distortion, and difficulty adapting. High-quality, modern multifocal lenses—especially when selected and fitted by an experienced optometrist and optical dispenser team, offer a much smoother transition between distances, wider vision zones, and more comfortable viewing experience overall.

This is where choosing an independent optometrist, like Hansen Eyecare Plus Parkes makes all the difference. Unlike chain stores that may offer a limited selection and only use one brand of lenses which is the best one for their bottom line, we have access to a wide range of premium multifocal designs from many different lens manufacturers that can be tailored to your lifestyle. We take the time to understand your unique vision needs, ensuring you get lenses that provide the clearest, most comfortable vision possible.

We also offer a 3 month non adaptation warranty on your new multifocal, so if you’re one of the small number of people that can’t adjust to a multifocal lens, then we will happily exchange them for something else. If you’re sick of taking glasses on and off or have been waiting to take the plunge and try multifocal lenses then what better time than now?

April 3, 2025 by Short Putt

On Saturday in the Men’s golf 18-Hole Stableford, sponsored by Forbes Holiday Park, John Betland made no errors in scoring the best scratch and nett scores of the day. Adding to the excitement the generosity of the sponsor saw the remaining players in the field of 54 scrambling for placings down to third.

New Members Always Welcomed At Forbes Croquet

April 3, 2025 by Elvy Quirk

A flash back to when Lorraine and Alec Todd were playing, working and supporting the Club. The Forbes Croquet Club has over 70 members, so if you want to join in on the fun come on down.

Aussie Croquet was played on Saturday 29 March, with 31 in attendance. A decision made earlier to play well and truly paid off, as the rain which was needed sadly did not arrive. We once again had two visitors: namely Suzanne Theuns and Glenn Toole.

Glenn has visited and played quite a few times before and is now getting quite smart at the game.

Golf Croquet was played on Tuesday 1 April, with 41 players in attendance on what was a very pleasant morning.

To start the morning President, Elvy caught all forty players out with an April Fools Day story that was told so well, she had all of them believing! They were all quite relieved when she finally admitted it was an April Fools story.

Visitors on the day were Suzanne Theuns and Belinda Facey. Belinda had her first try at croquet and is already showing promise.

On Tuesday, we again held our bi-monthly luncheon at Isabels Place where the food was absolutely delightful with all choosing their own. We again celebrated birthdays for the month of April and those celebrating were John Allegri, Mal Smith and Robin Pols. Best wishes to all.

Once again, a reminder that we are celebrating World Croquet Day on Thursday 1 May when we will play Aussie Croquet followed by a light lunch in the shade area.

Croquet is a game for young and old, age is no barrier. If you would like to try the game, come down on a Tuesday at 8.30am and you will be placed with an experienced player to get to know the ins and outs of the game. There are mallets you can borrow.

The cost is $5 to play, and membership is $20, which includes morning tea.

Mayoral Notes

March 27, 2025 by Phyllis Miller OAM

Doesn’t the Youth and Community Centre (YACC) look amazing! How lucky were we to have artist James O’Hanlon work with school students from Forbes to create the vibrant mural on the side of the YACC.

You can view the transformation which took place over the weekend on our social channels or YouTube www.facebook.com/share/v/15ZppGeSt3/. It all began with the students adding their flair which inspired James’ fantastical and quirky design showcasing diversity and how individuals from all backgrounds come together to form a fun, inclusive and connected community. The mural was a celebration of Harmony Week which recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

At our council meeting last week, Councillors invited members of the Bernardi family to acknowledge the family’s commitment to commerce in our region, upon Tony’s retirement. The Bernardi family has been a cornerstone in our community, supplying our groceries and fresh produce for seven decades. Bernardi’s is the epitome of community and family business and will continue to be in Forbes. Congratulations Tony.

Can you believe we are talking about April School holidays already? Well it is almost upon us and we have another event filled program for you all to enjoy. Go to the Forbes Youth Action Team page on facebook or our website to find out about the wellness workshops, leadership retreat, Youth Gallery and so much more.

This is your final week to be able to contribute to the Forbes Active Transport Plan (ATP) 2025. Active transport refers to people walking, running and bike riding as well as other transport options such as e-bikes, e-scooters and mobility scooters, adults pushing prams and wheelchair use. The new Forbes ATP 2025 will assist in programming active transport infrastructure improvements such as new footpaths, shared paths, street crossings, end-of-trip facilities and wayfinding signage.

NSW Farmers: Farmers must not be left without the funding needed to put Aussie grown food on tables, NSW Farmers has warned as the Albanese Government delivers its latest federal budget. Poor infrastructure, telecommunications and biosecurity are just some of the challenges farmers will be left to face alone if federal funding is not increased, NSW Farmers President Xavier Martin said. “Our government keeps talking about a future made in Australia, but how about a future grown in Australia? As we head to the polls, our politicians can’t forget the fact that people need fresh, Aussie grown food at fair prices. We need to keep our farmers farming.”
