Low Scores In Monthly Medals

April 6, 2023 by Short Putt

The Saturday Mens competition was the April Monthly Medal, an Individual Stroke event sponsored by ‘The Roadies’. The field of 50 players revelled in the balmy conditions.

A-Grade required a count back, with Jacob Bernardi getting the nod over playing partner Harry Callaghan after both finished on 66 nett.

B-Grade was close, with Matt Coles finishing on 67 nett, ahead of a fast finishing Ian Bown on 68 nett.

C-Grade was won by Brett Slack-Smithwith 71 nett. Runner-up required a count back when three players finished on 72 nett, but Kyle Sharpe had the better back-9.

The NTP’s went to: 9th P Pymont and 18th C Hanrahan. The Pro Shop Super-pin went to John Betland with a shot to 1.36 metres, which looked good all the way.

The ball sweep went to 73 nett on count back, so check in the Pro Shop if you think you earned one. The lone visitor was Peter Dwyer from Ballarat.

This week is the Easter weekend, with Stableford Medleys on Friday and Monday, an 18-Hole Stroke event for the men on Saturday, and a 3-person Ambrose on Sunday.

New Online Hub For Grazing Land Management Resources

April 6, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Red meat and livestock producers have access to a new hub of grazing land management resources on the Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) website.

The recently launched Grazing Land Management (GLM) hub brings together a range of grazing land management information and tools into a one-stop-shop.

MLA Program Manager, Adoption, Sally Leigo, said the hub contained the tools, resources and training opportunities to help red meat producers measure available pasture against animal demand, explore improved pasture options, or identify and manage weeds for grazing businesses across Australia.

“The hub provides a range of new information on grazing land management from written, to visual and in-person activities to ensure a wide range of ways to learn, so there is something for everyone within this online package of resources.

“As well as online information and tools, the hub also helps producers understand how they can try out training and try the new practices at home through one of MLA’s longer-term programs with other producers.”

Producers can sign up to be a member or check their membership status at www.mla.com.au/membership. To access the hub go to: www.mla.com.au/grazing

Spacecats Take The Win

April 6, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Parkes Spacecats warming up for a great 2023 season.

Last weekend’s trial game against Wellington was the final trial game for the Spacecats before Round 1 kicks off on 16th April, at Pioneer Oval against Cowra.

Coach Michael Dumesny, and assistant coach Freddy Francis had a few harsh words to say in regards to some sloppy play from the Parkes Spacecats in Wellington last Saturday, 1st April.

“Wellington defended well in patches, but it’s always good to go away with the win, especially considering we had four vital players out,” said Michael.

Freddy said, “Defense was good, a few of our mistakes let Wellington back in but our girls recovered.” Standout players on the day were Tess Wood, Elizabeth Macgregor, Teagan Smede and Keely Reynolds.

The team is still reeling from the loss of star player, Jorja Simpson, who was has been completely ruled out for the season.

Elizabeth Macgregor and Cody Wakefield have been named as co-captains. Michael went on to explain, “Cody plays in the middle and Elizabeth, is without a doubt the best fullback in the competition even though she is only 16, so it made sense to make them co-captains.”

Parkes & Forbes Maccas Are Hiring And They Want You To Apply

April 6, 2023 by Roxane Manley

A proud mum moment for Jenny Parfitt when 14 year old daughter Lilly decided to follow in her footsteps and take on a role at Parkes McDonalds.

New licensee of Parkes and Forbes McDonalds, Jenny Parfitt, spoke proudly of her daughter Lilly who has decided to follow in her mother’s footsteps by applying for her first job at Maccas. “She has really thrown herself into her job, doing four to five shifts per week,” said Jenny.

Jenny employs over 150 staff across the two stores, including 13 managers and one supervisor, but they still need more employees. Maccas is without doubt a huge employer of youth, but there are opportunities available for older staff during the day, in the Cafe and as delivery drivers. The age of the staff at Maccas Parkes and Forbes ranges from 14 to 62 years.

You would be perfect for a job at Maccas if you are high energy, fast paced and able to change tasks when needed.

“One minute you might be working in the drive-thru, then you might have to swing over to help the Cafe, the mornings are all about coffee, at lunchtime the kitchens are pumping, Friday night is dinner box after dinner box, so you just have to be ready to go where you’re needed,” said Jenny.

Debutante’s Keeping Traditions Alive For A Great Cause

April 6, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Eliza Fahey, Austen Brown, Kirby Maslin, Tom Maslin, Hannah Thorpe, Ashlee Coe, Mrs Marcia Simmons, Mrs Pat Duncan, Laura Vonthien, Charlie Vonthein, Claire Turner, Brodie Gartner, Emily Molloy, Will Bolam, Meg Fahey, James Edmunds, Gerogia Cole and Pat Tulaga. Front: Gerogia Nixon (flower girl), Lincoln Molloy (page boy) and Elsie Ball (flower girl)

After months of planning, fundraising and dance lessons, eight gorgeous young ladies and their equally handsome partners impressed and delighted their invited guests at the debutante ball on Saturday, 25th March.

The group consisting of Georgia Cole and Pat Tulaga, Eliza Fahey and Austen Brown, Meg Fahey and James Edmunds, Kirby Maslin and Tom Maslin, Emily Molloy and Will Bolam, Hannah Thorpe and Ashlee Coe, Claire Turner and Brodie Gartner, Laura Vonthien and Charlie Vonthien, were present to Mrs Pat Duncan, Ambassador for the Motor Neurone Disease Association of NSW.

The group were accompanied by flower girls Elsie Ball and Georgia Nixon, and pageboy, Lincoln Molloy.

The nervous duos performed their feature dance to “I’ll Be There” by Foster which was choreographed by Miss Emily Jack.

The ladies looked spectacular in their white gowns and the young gents wore smart single breasted navy suits, crisp white shirts, tan shoes and light blue accessories which complemented the colour theme.

Traditionally, debutante balls were formal occasions where young ladies were presented to society after learning manners and etiquette customary of the time. Modern debutante balls still teach participants social skills but are an opportunity to raise valuable funds for charities and not-for-profit organisations.

The tireless efforts of the debutantes and their partners cooking barbeques, selling raffle tickets and more, were justified with a profit of almost $2,400 raised which will directly benefit the Motor Neurone Disease Association of NSW.

MND is a progressive neurological disease that results in high levels of disability. Without functioning nerves, muscles waste and no longer function which affects the neck, shoulders, hands, feet, arms, legs and breathing. There is currently no cure for MND and two people are diagnosed and a further two die with MND every day in Australia.

The group chose to support the MND Association of NSW as it was dear to their hearts, with some of the group’s family members having been directly affected by it.

The monster raffle drawn on the night was well supported by local businesses and families who generously donated all nine of the prizes. First prize was a Malvern Star Adult bike sponsored by Bown’s Sportspower was won by Kim Maslin, second prize a garden parcel donated by Achesons Mitre 10 went to Deb Waters, June Dollar took out third prize, the REPCO vehicle cleaning kit, fourth prize a Tyreright gift voucher went to Jodie Vonthien, fifth prize a Blush Organic voucher was won by Gaye Donnelly, the Orange Tenpin Bowl voucher donated by the Fahey family went to Anthony Ireland, Eliza Fahey received the meat tray donated by Flint Street Butchery, James Edmunds took home the Merge Virtual Reality Goggles and Alex Molloy took out the final prize of the night, the Fisher Price interactive toy package.

Event coordinator, Anita Morrison, commended the group on their efforts and congratulated family and friends for their support.

Keeping It In The Family

March 31, 2023 by Roxane Manley

Ben is supported by his sister Claudia, brother Kurt and proud parents Fiona and John.

According to his mother, Fiona, when Ben Lovett was younger he wasn’t a gifted athlete like some, but he worked very hard to achieve his dream.

Fiona describes him as a very determined and level headed young man. “He’s the most level headed in the family, and he keeps his composure very well,” said Fiona.

Parkes Spacemen Under 18’s Coach, Sam Dwyer descibes Ben as a standout player. “In terms of leadership he was second to none. It’s a big achievement and everyone who knows him knows how hard he worked,” said Sam.

Both of Ben’s parents are extremely proud of how well he has handled his NRL debut and are grateful he signed with the Rabbitohs, who they consider to be a great club.

When Ben ran on in the 60th minute of Saturday’s game, the atmosphere was lifted by the roar of the Parkes supporters in crowd who were all there to cheer Ben on. The game swung around and the Rabittohs were able to secure the win, 13-12.

Fiona and John extend their sincere thanks to everyone who travelled to watch Ben play , in addition to those who supported him from afar.

The Lovett family have strong connections with the South Sydney Rabbitohs Club. Ben’s older sister Claudia works for the club as events manager, and his brother Kurt, is in training and has been named part of the NSW Cup Competition.

Ben has not yet been named in the line-up for this weeks game, but anything can change in the lead up to a game. The Rabbitohs then have the bye, so Ben will be afforded a rest after his massive debut. Without a doubt, people in Parkes will be keeping an eye on our local superstar, Benny Lovett.
