One inegnious member of the Forbes Dragon Boat Club came up with the concept to ‘Buy a Seat’ to raise funds for a much needed new 20s dragon boat.
Local Forbes businesses and individuals were approached to ‘buy a seat’ for the new boat, and the initiative was embrace wholeheartedly by the community.
In return for their ‘seat purchase’ the sponsors received a name plaque adjacent to a seat in the new boat and their names on a plaque in the shed.
The club was also fortunate to receive a generous grant from CMOS Northparkes and Essential Energy through their Community Funding program.
By late October the Forbes Dragon Boat Club received their new boat. Last Sunday, 12th February, they held a special paddling session and morning tea to thank all of the people and sponsors who were instrumental in making the project a reality.
CMOS Northparkes, a major sponsor, were represented by Jianjun Tian, Managing Director and Colin Zhao who took pride of place at the front of the boat for the paddle.
In his thank you address, President Chris Favelle acknowledged the wholehearted community project and in particular the initial idea and planning. Special thanks were extended to all business and individual sponsors.
“Lachlan Spirit” was the name chosen for the new boat as it encompasses the true spirit of all those involved in making this dream a reality in such a short time. The boat was also officially named on Sunday.
