Forbes Garden Club Report

October 22, 2026 by Green Thumb

The September meeting host, Sue Ann Nixon pictured in her garden.

The September meeting was held at the home of Sue-Ann Nixon with an attendance of 28 members and 10 apologies.

President Marg Dent welcomed all and conducted the usual business part of the meeting. Joy and Noel Hocking will have potted iris for sale at their home 26 and 27 September. Bev Green thanked all those who had entries in the Forbes Show as it was truly a wonderful display of flowers.

Our Christmas Meeting will be a two course meal at the Vandenburg Hotel in November at a cost of $35. Please bring this money to our October meeting.

Our Guest speaker was our host Sue Ann Nixon. She has been in charge of the Forbes North Primary School Kitchen Garden while being a teacher there. She grows vegetables at her home garden that was started in 2000 and supplies all her family year around with produce. Raised garden beds, fruit trees, roses and flowers to attract bees, chooks for fertiliser, watering by hand – an amazing effort! Margot Rath thanked Sue Ann and presented her with a small gift Flower of the Month winners were Denise Thurston winning first place (Orchid), Joy Hocking second place (Blue Iris), and equal third went to Claire Haley Algyne and Meg Scholefield (Cherokee and Rose).

Raffle winners on the day were Marion Murray and Marg Dent.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday 27 October at the home of Helen and Kingsley Green, “Brooklyn” on Victory Road at 2pm. Please bring along a hat, chair, cup, a flower, something for the trading table and $35 for Chrismas lunch.
