The Forbes and District Lions Club inc were in Parkes recently at the Parkes Public School screening students’ vision for the Lions Children’s Vision Screening Program.
They were assisted by Dubbo Lions, Manildra Lions, Bathurst Lions and Lions On Aus, (Travelling Lions Club) to screen 175 local children.
The Lions Children’s Vision Screening Program involves visiting schools and screening the students’ eyes for vision issues. Peter Bright, Secretary of the Forbes and District Lions Club inc, said it is a very rewarding program and is really making a difference, “Probably the most rewarding thing we do as Lions is to help our communities.”
The Forbes and District Lions Club inc. currently has 14 members. Of those members, seven are very active, the others for a variety of reasons are less active. The club is desperately in need of new members to bring new ideas on how to help the local community.
Peter Bright said, “Our club is definitely in need of new members. They bring new ideas, allow us to do more in our community, and, let’s face it, many of our current members are growing older.
“So, yes, please come along and talk to us. A few hours per month can make a huge difference to how much we can help our community.”
The club raises most of its funding from BBQs, they support many local events such as Carols By Candlelight, The Car Show, Sorting and Penning equestrian events etc.
You need a BBQ, they can do it! But if they have more members, they can do more.
The Forbes & District Lions Club inc meet once per month at the Vandenberg Hotel in Forbes on the second Tuesday of the month at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start. New members are welcome.
