Several women and a child are reported to have been killed in separate domestic violence-related incidents across NSW in just 24 hours over the weekend.
And a young mother from Forbes murdered despite having an AVO. NSW Parliament will be asked to draw a line in the sand. The Independent NSW Member for Orange Phil Donato MP tabled a notice of motion for the Crimes Amendment (Mandatory Life Sentences) Bill 2026, which would introduce mandatory life imprisonment for murder in defined and carefully prescribed domestic and family violence circumstances.
The move comes after a horror weekend of multiple alleged dv-homicides across NSW over the weekend.
It also follows the sentencing of Daniel Billings for the murder of 28-year-old Forbes mother Molly Ticehurst.
“Molly deserved to grow old. She deserved to watch her son grow up. She deserved to come home safely. We cannot bring Molly back. But we can decide what happens next.
“We must do better. And we must legislate for it,” Mr Donato said.
