A devastating fire has left a family of three homeless.
On Saturday 24 October at 7:05pm, Emergency Services were called to a house fire on Cooka Hills Road.
The family, including a three year old, have lived on the outskirts of Cookamidgera for a number of years in the same rental property. They were in the home enjoying a quiet evening watching the footy, when they suddenly smelt smoke. No sooner did they smell smoke than the smart alarm went off.
Alerted to what was happening, they went to investigate and found the entire back of the house alight. They quickly ran out of the house and by the time they turned around to look back, the whole house was engulfed.
They escaped with literally, only the clothes on their back. The fire destroyed everything they own and nothing at all was salvageable.
The family said: “It happened so fast, if we were asleep when this took hold I don’t reckon we would have made it out alive, we are grateful for that.”
A GoFundMe has been set up to help with items that the family will need to purchase once they can secure a new place to reside.
Donations of clothing and furniture will be accepted once the family have secured a shed to store everything in.
